Character classifications? power/gadget/rushdown/zoner etc?

Hey guys/gals,

New here. Wonder if there is a list where each character is classified as power/gadget/rushdown/zoner etc? of course there are some that have a combination of these.

I know it's really too early to tell with not much info other than Gameplay.

Form what I've seen from the vids I list themas

Rushdown

Catwoman, Nightwing, The Flash

Zoner

Green Arrow, Deathstroke, Cyborg, Aquaman

Grappler

Grundy, Bane Doomsday?

Based on gameplay, many of the characters in the game (including some of the ones listed here, e.g. Nightwing) don't fit nicely into one of those categories. And imo, that's a good thing :)

In my honest opinion, Deathstroke looks like a guaranteed hybrid between zoning and footsies, where Cyborg is a possible, and Sinestro seems like a hard zoning type.

Doomsday is a brawler, not a grappler. ;)

Yeah I guess you're right but I do recall the developers saying that there is power and gadget characters but I guess it's how each of them interact with the different interactables in the background.

Yeah I guess that's what I ment.

Gadget vs Power is a classification by the developers to determine how they use interactables in the environment. (If they throw a car, or jump off it, things like that)

Everything else is just people making presumptions based on videos online or demos at conventions.

Too many fancy terms being thrown around these days by everyone, I feel like they've lost meaning!
I like to divide characters into groups of Simple and Technical. Simple characters are the Supermans of the world. You land combos, do damage, the end. Technical characters are the ones that revolve around obtuse setups, frametraps, mixups, armor lulz... game mechanics, basically.

I think it's a better classification system because rushers and zoners can exist in either house.

I don't think the classifications matter much because (I believe) Batman and Nightwing are both "gadget" characters, but still interract differently.

I'm rather confused sometimes. Brawler, Grappler and Rushdown have so much overlap that its become meaningless to me. Then, when you get down to zoners, some are vastly different. Compare Kenshi and Noob and you see that the term 'zoner' is not broad enough.

Zoners and lockdown characters. Noob is a zoner because he increases space, Kenshi is lockdown because he restricts it.

Even though I see a difference between the terms "brawler", "grappler", and "rushdown", I think a lot of people use them interchangeably, and I wouldn't pay too much attention to which term gets used. I see it this way:

Brawler: Sheeva, Hulk, Doomsday: A slower character focused on high-damage single attacks, instead of large combos or links.

Rushdown: Cage, Wolverine, Flash: A fast in-your-face character who can unleash a relentless stream of linked attacks.

Grappler: Abel, Zangief, Thor: A character that's similar to a brawler, only focused instead on various command throws. So far I'm not sure if any actual grapplers exist in Injustice. Despite Doomsday having a command grab, I don't see his gameplay revolving around it to the point of labeling him a grappler.

Surely grundy is the archetypal grappler?

His command throw had armour on it IIRC, and it leads to 3 different chain throws.

I wonder though, how do Grundys inputs work for the extended grapples?

I swear, if its like Jax's throw... I'll be pissed. It needs to be relatively easy, and intuitive, instead of confusing and arbitrary.

And possibly Bane. He'll probably end up a hybrid grappler/brawler.

Grundy is a grappler through and through; it was SAID that Bane is also a grappler(and he does have a few throws it looks) but we need to see more to be 100% certain

Yeah, I just straight-up forgot Grundy was a character.
