Cannot Cancel Dash with Block or Normals.... Need some Reassurance

Ok over at http://injusticesociety.com (Hype new site, get your ass over there), I was talking in the chatbox to Phase 3 about how you cannot cancel dashes with normals or block... This has me a bit worried about getting in on zoners. I'm looking for some clarification to put my troubled Johnny Cage mind at ease.

Edit: This is what keeps coming to mind when I think about this mechanic in Injustice

you have to remember that the enviroments you can interact with give you options against zoners aswell, you just have to be more careful with your dashes thats all.it'll feel weird at first if all you've played is mk but you'll pick it up.it looks like every character has ways and means to deal with most things in the game its just going to be a case of figuring them out.

Fear not, just about every character who isn't a zoner has a way to deal with zoners. Here are a bunch of examples...

Flash - Phase through projectiles and slow down time to get in.
Superman - Airdash to punish whiffed zoning attempts for full combo. Also air eye laser will probably be great for return fire.
Catwoman - Dodging projectiles with her command dodge gives her cat scratches, which powers her up. If you zone her carelessly when she gets in she's going to lay a hurting on you with the 5 point combo ender. Careless zoning only makes her stronger.
Wonder Woman - Bracelet parries projectiles, can airdash to punish whiffed zoning attempts for full combo.
Grundy - Armor and swamp hands. If you trade with swamp hands, Grundy might get hit by a projectile but you're caught and he'll probably get a combo. Plus armor.
Doomsday - Armor, teleport, angled shoulderdash that, when meterburned, can punish.
Aquaman - Projectile shield.

Etc, etc.

I missed a ton of stuff and I could elaborate on a lot more, but my point is, don't stress out. It seems like most characters have at least a few viable tools to keep zoning from becoming too overwhelming. Everything is looking good so far.

I'm pretty sure there will be a lot more restrictions on how zoning will work in this game. I'm sure it will still be effective, but just in a different way than MK9. For example a lot of projectiles seem to have a lot of recovery, which restricts how quickly you will be able to get out the next one to continue zoning.

Edit: Also, if it gets too bad. Read all the above posts and feel better haha.

Catwoman can actually get 2 dashes in in the time it takes a lot of characters to recharge their projectile. Dash-ducking is also pretty easy to time. The problem isn't her getting in; it's other people keeping her out :D

Flash has no issues getting in. Lex's dash covers a massive range. I don't think it's the typical straight-projectile zoning that people will have to worry about in this game.. I'd direct your attention to the more Sinister stuff.

Time your dashes during the recovery of the projectiles, neutral jump, block or duck under a fireball, and then dash again. Or use your characters anti-zoning specific tools, moves with armor, evasive properties, air dashing. You'll just have to pick your spots, you can't blindly move in and trust in the almighty block button to save you whenever you need it.

Imagine everyone having Reptile's elbow dash basically. That's what Injustice is.

Is everyones dashes universal or are some quicker/slower/longer steps/shorter steps, than others?

Yeah, dashes aren't universal. They vary a lot. Like you'll see when the demo drops, Lex's dash is absolutely huge.

It can even vary with one character -- for example, Nightwing's forward and backdash are different when he has his staff out vs. the escrima sticks.

That's pretty much what I did, and it worked for me. Dash dash duck.

The game won't be one dimensional, zoning and rush down both seem equally viable from the game plays Ive seen. If zoning is a concern of yours make sure to learn your character's tool set in and out and just be patient.

I can't get to a computer so from my phone.

Walk up block, neutral jump, jump off environments, armor, teleports, divekicks, etc. Don't think it'll be a problem.

Awww yea, superior dashes!

Yea its a slight concern for me but its a mechanic that we will all get use to. The dash probably doesn't take as long as it looks.

By the videos I've seen I think zoning should be the least of your worries. The ambiguous crossups alone are going to be more of an issue. Did you see the batman battle arena video today? Batman attempted a crossup on flash, then canceled into a glide to fake out Flash, flash took the bait and tried to AA with a normal, then batman cancels the glide, drop kicks behind him, whiff punishes the normal and continues into a death combo. Imagine having setups like that done to you where you have no idea if you should block left or right.

Wave dashing aint the only way in on zoners in this game. From stage hazards, to monster dash lengths, to just plain old timing between them you have ways.

Or at least...you had better hope so.
