Since apparently no one reads the gameplay forum (http://www.testyourmight.com/threads/training-mode-ais-added-invisibility-frames-and-reduced-recovery.32601/), and this is a specific issue, I went ahead and made a new thread. After watching check's new video I was messing around with waking up versus various meat attacks, and found that I can't perform a wakeup attack with any character versus meaty lows.
Try this setup: record the dummy doing killer frost d3, then slide, and see if you can perform a wakeup attack versus the meaty slide.
