Apologizing in advance for what will be a long post based on my limited experience with KI:

What does it have to offer that MKX does not?
Fantastic online, multi-layered mind-games with the combo breaker/counter breaker system, consistent anti-airs, fairly simple combo system with a surprising amount of depth after you've learned it, ULTRAAAAAAAA COMBOOOOOS.

What is the Practice mode like? (is there hitboxvisual, Frame data ECT.)? Hitbox viewer can be turned on in practice mode to show you your character's normal hitbox, throw hitbox, and hurtboxes on all moves. Frame data is available on the command list for specials and command attacks, not sure if it's available for light/med/heavy strikes, I haven't looked that far into it.

What is the Cast like? I only really have experience with the season 1 characters, but they all seem very solid. Each cast member has one specific "trait" unique to them (i.e. Jago can link doubles in combos into doubles of lower strength, and when he completes a full cycle he gains a small amount of instinct meter, or Fulgore's reactor spins faster/builds meter faster after linking auto doubles in combos) and it can really add a lot to your game. The season 2 characters all seem to have an extra resource to manage in some respect (except for Kan-Ra if I remember correctly), or some quirky trait.
What is Block like :u,:d specific? Back to block, down+back to crouch block.

Is footsies a big deal? As in any FG, footsies is huge, especially here since a mistake can lead to a 60%+ combo if your opponent has the resources. Those combos can be broken if you know the opponent's moveset and can break with the button of corresponding strength, but if you make a wild (wrong) guess or mistime you're locked out of a break for at least 3 seconds.

What is online like? The netcode is godlike. I have never played any game, much less a fighting game, with such good online. I've only been playing for about 2 weeks, and only in short bursts online, but I've had great experiences without all of the salt that usually comes from winning in an NRS or Capcom game.

is it balanced? I can't speak to that. I picked the game up shortly after watching it at EVO, and there's no specific character that has vexed me yet. I know that Thunder is pretty strong and Sabrewulf has no bad matchups. That's about it for my knowledge of the game's balance so far.

Look, just do what I did. Buy one character that you like the look of and play the game. I've bought fulgore and am enjoying the game and excited to learning it to the point where I won't be a scrub anymore. Just do that and you'll see if you like it or not, if not it's hardly a big investment a day if you do then great and buy the bundle pack.

My profile picture is Aganos, the largest character in KI. It was the first fighter I ever really played (Xbone didn't have much to offer Battlefield and Halo flopped).

Personally I find the game mechanics a lot more interesting than MKs. The combo break system is really cool imo. I think the roster is great balance wise, it doesn't seem to have a bad reputation in that regard. I will say I do not care much for the character designs aesthetically speaking. Not only with looks but Cinder's voice for instance? So bad. A lot of it is pretty corny and I don't find any of them really capuring my imagination or anything. I am pretty disappointed with the game in that respect.

It also lacks some kind of modes. I dunno, like MKX has all the towers. KI doesn't have that kind of stuff.

What it does have is good gameplay, superb netcode, a good amount of comsetic stuff to get, and a decent training mode. It does have a story mode. Its not well written but its worth playing nonetheless i guess.

Its a really solid game, if you own an xbone its a must play if you like fighters imo. But it does need a little more content. Hopefully Season 3 supplies some cool Finishing Moves and Stage Ultras to the game.

I should mention this thing they added called "Shadow Mode." Hardcore players have been pleasantly surprised by how good it is. What this mode ddoes is allow you to upload gameplay and it also has you play several AI matches so that it can process your gameplay. Then it will create an AI, called a Shadow, that your friends or anyone can play against. It is new and thye don't let you do it with Aganos yet so I haven't used it, but people who were skeptical at first have said that it does do a good job of executing the same combos and stuff.

Kind of neat.

Massively better online, better footsies, more diverse set of characters, better training mode, updated more consistently, back to block.

Honestly everything about the game seems better than MKX.

Killer instinct is a much deeper game with a killer online. It's confusing at first but there is a very in depth tutorial that will get you on track quickly.

Also nothing is more satisfying than ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--

like, beating the shit out of someone so hard, that the announcer can't even finishing screaming before the game ends.

That being said, mkx has much more content to offer, and I prefer the dial a combo system. They're both great games, you'd be silly not to play killer instinct.

What does it have to offer that MKX does not?
A more balanced experience when it comes to combat and overall better online viability.

What is the Practice mode like? (is there hitboxvisual, Frame data ECT.)?
It's extremely good. I haven't explored it completely, but it does show hit boxes visually, damage percentage, record AI and all that jazz.

What is the Cast like?
Beautifully designed and they all excel in their proper styles. You got in balanced in betweeners, rushdown pressurers, air superiority ones, counter heavies, not really grapplers but you could argue there are some. You'll find very little argument about this or that character being useless, very unlike MK where there's a vast pool of characters with variations, yet less than half are used and the variation system is non existent to them.

What is Block like :u,:d specific?
Block like any other game, is important, but the game relies more on its combo breaking mechanic. Imagine MK break system without the requirement of bars or stamina. That's not to say it's there all the time. You gotta both time it correctly and apply the correct strength of attack that's been applied to you back at them, so it does take skill. There's also the counter breakers which as it says, counters the combo breaking attempts, buts it's high risk/high reward. Also Shadow Counters, which let you break a combo and actually follow it with an attack to start your own.

Is footsies a big deal?
Hmm, haven't played it enough to judge but it doesn't feel like it. It's not SF if you're asking that. Like all games there is a certain amount of it, but overall, it's high octane pressure and action. Still pretty tactical. But as I said before, it relies more on its combo breaking system and high pace.

What is online like?
One of the best net odes around. It's not lauded for nothing. Very little issues if at all. There're a lot,of online tourneys since the it's near offline quality. Can't any closer than that. The community is extremely good too.

is it balanced?
HA! Way way way WAY better than MKX. There's a lot of talk of MU's obviously, but honestly, even with unfavorable MU's as it were, they can all have even footing to compete against each other.

BTW, I play it quite a bit so if you wanna have a few rounds, I'm available.
