Breaking but still taking damage?!

I was at a local tournament this weekend and I was playing blueNINE in a match that was coming down to the wire. He was up 1 round to 0 and I was at about 17% health and I KNEW 24 1+2,2 does 15% damage so I wanted to break the last hit. Perfect idea right.....?

i think you just broke as soon as his fist hit you still giving him the damage

It happens with a few moves like if you break the second part of raiden's superman and Lao's plum flower. I guess some moves just have those properties.

I wasn't salty or anything was just wondering why on earth that would happen lol. I was holding block and forward before he even launched me up but I guess that's just what it does. If you watch after the round I'm yelling at blueNINE for "how broken his character is" lol clearly trolling.

I guess some moves take damage before you hit them.

I've tried, you can't break, you just die.

You survive. Just like with the 1% health x ray bomb thing. Close bomb with cyrax, scorpion x-ray, scorpion got hit by the bomb which is 8% and he takes the damage as it shown in training mode and will survive. Strange.

Some moves have the same issue as the 3D MK games in that some moves still do damage even when broken.

Quite a few times playing against Kabal's I would take damage from a breaker.
