The more I learn about the gear moves and how most of them replace existing moves and are even worse in some aspects instead of being direct upgrades (some of them still are but with the 1 or 2 slots thing they can be balanced pretty well), the more I think it would be interesting to see them in competitive play to be honest. The sonic grenade for example basically replaces her scream with a move that is more about setups and has only 1 level without the safety of a level 3 scream, personally I would keep the regular scream but it could fit the playstyle of others without really making them broken.
I think the one with the most potential is the ability to meterburn the scream to get a level3, this way you can start with a 50/50 into scream then launcher (rather than directly into launcher) to squeeze some extra damage, then use a bar to still finish the combo with a restand. Basically it would allow you to squeeze a bit more damage from combos and go for safer starters while still being allowed to get the restand at the end if it works like I think it does. You can't do it again after the reset though as the scream would be recharging so it's not like you get a safe vortex over and over.
