Being thrown at wakeup : options

Hi everyone,

Just wondering what tools you guys typically use to escape being thrown at wakeup, especially command throws with armor.

Is the wakeup attack the "only" option, considering that for some obscure (dumb) reason, you can't just jump at wakeup like in most fighters, to prevent this technique to force you into using reversals.

Thanks for your replies by advance.

(Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm French, so ... I do what I can with those english words :) )

Well you cant really do anything about an armored command grab. Wakeup attack is one of the best options but it wont help against an armored command grab. I mean most of the time you can tech roll and you shouldn't be thrown.

You can also tech the throw if it lands. Or you can stay on the ground and let the throw whiff.

You can't tech roll hard ko, and can't tech command grabs, unless I'm wrong.

I'll try wakeup MBf3, but I wonder if it works for every character, I know some moves make throws whiff completely (lasso grab with WW, her d3 for example), but that doesn't help in a "meaty command grab" situation at all.

Wakeup attack works fine, but since it seems to me the "only" option, I was wondering and asking here if there was some universal way to escape meaty command throws at wakeup (like hold "up" in other fighters, as in SSF4 or most "2D" fighters).

Because that shit kinda forces you to wakeup to prevent being bullied with those unblockable setups, and in time, opens your guard even wider when they decide to slightly delay the command grab (like Walking Corpse-cancel), into a nasty 40-50% combo.

Seems like a high risk-low reward situation all the time.

Any reason we can't use unthrowable frames from jump startup at wakeup ? since I suppose it's done on purpose

I mean tech roll for normal throws. I don't know about a command grab. I mean it is rare that they will armor it... so a wake-up attack should suffice.

Walking Corpse is armored (3 hits of armor) without MB, so it's pretty common actually, in Grundy's case.

Same for Bane, most setups for his backbreaker "meaty" can be used with his venom, which is most of the time too.

I guess it's wakeup attack or eat the damage then. Wakeup attack being baited and punished is far more damage anyway ...

I wonder how overpowered a character like Zangief could become without the possibility to jump at start up :) Really weird you can't do this here ... I guess it's time to man up and forget the "old" basics :)

Yeah. I thought you were just talking like in a generic case. I rarely fight any Grundys so I wouldn't know about that. :D

Thanks anyway guys :)

I'll try more things in the lab when I get back home ...

If MBf3 is working fine at wakeup, it would save my ass a lot, considering you can backdash cancel out of it.

That's worth a shot :)

Oh and btw : lucky you about not facing any Grundys ... once you fight a few good ones, you'll never be the same again lol
