Bruce Wayne was born wealthy, and knew little hardship until his parents were robbed and murdered in front of him when he was eight years old. Raised by his family's trusted butler Alfred, Bruce took on a second identity to save his beloved city of Gotham from corrupt police, and powerful crime rings. His vigilante alter ego is known as Batman, with ninja-like training and the wealth of billions to supply a steady stream of hardware and gadgets, Bruce will stop at nothing to save Gotham and defend it from destruction.
Robin is mentored by Batman, and assists him in solving crime and kicking ass. While Batman has many enemies, his arch-nemesis is the Joker.
As a child, Bruce's biggest fear were Bats. Upon the conception of Batman, Bruce wanted the scum of Gotham to share his fear; and thus the symbol and the costume were born.
Batman is making an appearance as a major character in NetherRealm's upcoming game Injustice: Gods Among Us, and we will have to see how his story plays out further in Q1 of 2013.
