It has begun! Again!

Brutality is back in action thanks to the upcoming release of Mortal Kombat X. The goal of the Brutality series is to help our scene improve and showcase our personalities and talent.

VENUE
$5 - All Night Entry to Arcade Legacy

GAMES
MKX - PS4 - $5 Entry
KI - XBONE - $5 Entry
UNIEL - PS3 - $3 Entry
SG - PS3 - $2 Entry

You can go the FB page by clicking HERE.

Note: Out of the box PS3 arcade sticks will work on MKX for PS4. Also, it would seem that PS360+ and Qanba arcade sticks will work as well. Please bring an appropriate controller for the game(s) you wish to play.

SCHEDULE
7pm - UNIEL / SG
7:30pm - MKX / KI

STREAM
www.twitch.tv/arcadelegacy

The stream will show exclusively MKX until KI Top 3, and then conclude with MKX.

PRIZES
MKX
1st Place - $15
2nd Place - $10
3rd Place - $5

One random player who enters MKX and places 4th or below will receive $5 to cover their venue fee. The same person may not win consecutively.

POWER RANKINGS
Players who enter MKX will earn ranking points based on their performance. The top 5 ranked players will be invited to compete in a Championship Round Robin during Brutality - July. There will be prizes, and details are TBA.

There will be a normal MKX bracket during Brutality - July, and the power rankings will be reset.

Players will be seeded in MKX according to their power rankings.

RULES
The PowerUp Ruleset can be found by clicking HERE.

In order to properly train for the ESL league, we will replicate their rule set, which includes random stage selection and character plus variation lock for match winners. We will still allow blind picks at any player's request.

No fatalities. This is because the tournament will be shown on a giant projector, in full view of children. We do not want any complaints from parents toward our generous venue, Arcade Legacy.

Alrighty, so some updates regarding entry fees and rules.

We got enough votes in-person and on FB to increase entry fees for MKX and KI to $5 each. So that will be done, and that is the maximum. UNIEL and SG also get small increases.

Also, the New ESL league was just announced, and their rules state that players will be character and variation locked when they win a match in a best 2/3. So, in order to properly train our local players who will participate in the ESL league, I will go ahead and replicate that rule set at Brutality.

Get hype!

Some cool news for the Brutality Series: power rankings and a season championship!

In an effort to bring even more fun and interesting aspects to the Brutality Series, we will be doing power rankings for our MKX tournaments. You get points based on how well you do in the tournament. Just like the good ol' ranking battles, the points will be dished out thusly:

1st - 9pts
2nd - 8pts
3rd - 7pts
4th - 6pts
5th and 7th - 5pts
9th - 4pts
13th - 3pts
17th - 2pts
25th or below - 1pt

Points will be accumulated from April until June, and then in July there will be a special, invitation only round robin for the top 5 ranked players (ties are allowed). Prizes will be provided, and specifics on that are TBA.

Brutality in July will still run a normal MKX bracket, and the power rankings will be reset.

Do your best and try to make it into the Championship Round Robin in July!

Some important notes on rules during Brutality events can be found below. Please familiarize yourself with the rules to make the event run smoothly for everyone. Thank you!

- Please refrain from using fatalities because we will be showing the tournament on Arcade Legacy's projector screen, in full view of children under 10 years of age. We do not want to risk any complaints from parents toward our generous venue.

Brutalities (and pop-offs), however, are allowed. This is because they are quick and do not call much attention to themselves, unlike the more lengthy and flashy fatalities.

- Coaching and the 1-Minute Break: Players may have one, and only one, coach beside them during a set. That coach may only speak to them privately in between matches of a set, and not during gameplay or in between rounds.

Also, please feel free to utilize the 1-minute break you are allotted between matches in a set. Take a breather if you need it, and don't feel rushed by your opponent.

- Be like Kenshi and Blind Pick: You don't want your opponent to counter pick you on the character select screen, right? There are so many variations to choose from in MKX, and you want to catch your opponent off guard, right? Ask for a blind pick, and it shall be done.

- The dreaded Mid Game Pause: We had a bit of trouble with this rule at an earlier event, but now it is much more clear. If you pause for any reason you will forfeit the match being played. Not just the round; the whole match.

The only exception is when there will be inevitable defeat. This means that if you un-pause, and your opponent's character is knocked out due to your last input before the pause, then you will be allowed to win that round.

For those interested in reading the complete set of PowerUp Event Rules, all two of you can find that information by going to: http://www.powerupfighters.org/p/event-rules.html

Videos from Brutality - April 2015 have been uploaded to YouTube! Also, the Top 5 Plays of the Day have been added to the playlist!

We are aware of, and apologize for, the video quality issues. Our HD recordings got corrupted somehow, so we were forced to use the footage from the Twitch.tv stream. Better that than nothing at all! Besides, our commentators keep it going strong the whole time.
