What's new

Anyway good with computer hardware?

I just bought a new mobo and CPU and installed it plugged everything and when I went to turn the computer on it 3 things would happen,

A)Black screen or nothing at all rather
B)Normal start up screen with the enter bios, boot cd, etc..
C)A blue screen with the top saying Gigabyte .... But the rest of screen dark blue no text or anything

No matter what the option it would soon follow a power down and then restart to process all over, it's infinitely turning on and off...

CPU is intel and the mobo is gigabyte H77M-D3H

Now I'm just wondering what could have caused this? Is it faulty? Did I break something? Did I just not install something properly?

Thanks in advance

There's a lot of potential problems that can cause this. Is your desktop beeping at you when you turn it on? If it is, listen carefully as each beep sequence has a meaning. If it happens, count the beeps and look it up on Google. This usually refers to things like the power on self tests. Do you have an internal video card as well as a separate video card? Try using both to see if one is bad.

Also, I know you said you checked the seatings but I'd check the RAM seatings AND the CPU seating. Usually there is a swing bar of sorts to lock the CPU in place. While you're at it, make sure none of the pins are bent.

As another note, did you properly calculate what size power supply you would need?

If all of this checks out, does the computer actually "sound" like it's running? If it does and you have an extra HDD lying around, try swapping that out with the one you have right now as it is possible the HDD has a corrupt boot sector. I've even seen a jacked keyboard cause this issue. The PC see's something plugged in but can't fully detect the keyboard and spazzes out.

Like I said, there's a ton of potential reasons but these are just a few I've seen regularly at work.

Also - I noticed you said the mobo and CPU are new. Does the mobo you purchased accept the type of RAM you currently have?

Yes it does it's all compatible.
On newegg tech forums I was told apparently gigabyte ships there mobo with defects and its a infinite boot bug, they said return and get a new one... Yay fun only spent 3 hours trying to understand where I went wrong.

Thanks for the help Dutch and others who commented
