I'm back with some more anti Sabre tech trying to knock him out of the #1 spot everyone seems to have him on at this stage of the games development.
So by now we're all aware that Shadow Counters can punish the last hit of blocked shadow moves. If you activate the counter too early and don't take the final hit of the move, the remaining hits will beat out the shadow move that comes out of the counter.
I'm here to show that this is NOT the case with blockstrings and I'm gonna showcase it on Sabrewulf.
A large portion of Sabre's game plan is to use his great ground movement and range on his normals to poke with cr.LP or cr.MP into Ragged edge to start combos. On block these are totally safe and it's starting to circulate that you can shadow counter the 2nd hit of the Ragged Edge (it is always 2 hits) and punish, but that's not all that he does. He can also do a LMH magic-series chain and then cancel that into the Ragged Edge or do run cancels into the overhead / low mix up if he wants so it can be hard to tell where the final hit of any of his pressure will be.
The only thing is, it doesn't matter when the last hit comes. You can press Shadow Counter at almost ANY TIME during Sabrewulf pressure / blockstrings and it will blow through anything else that is coming out.

The first part of the clip is a recording of Sabre doing a LMH-MP Ragged Edge and shadow countering every hit. It works on all of them.
The second part is just a cr.MP - MP Ragged Edge and a shadow counter on either hit of the Ragged Edge works.
The Third part is Sabre doing a cr.LP - Run Cancel Overhead and then cr.LP - Run Cancel Low. If you press Shadow Counter as soon as you see the crouching normal hit, it is active for long enough to catch EVERYTHING.
IT EVEN AUTO CORRECTS TO HIT THE PASS THROUGH OF THE RUN CANCEL LOW
I actually showed that twice so that everyone knows it isn't a fluke.
The power of Shadow Counters is really only starting to surface. This obviously has implications for other characters (Jago, Thunder, Orchid especially) since they have multi-hitting moves used in their pressure and neutral game as well. I showcase it on Sabrewulf first because I feel this hurts him the most of all characters since it blows up all of his attempts at offense and he's forced to take big risks with every button press or try and bait you into whiffing the Shadow Counter.
Personally, this is especially satisfying for defeating dash cross up mix ups after a knockdown. If Sabre wants to try and get a combo off the cross up you can block his first attack then immediately press Shadow Counter and if he did ANYTHING else he's getting punished for it.
TL;DR
Sabrewulf should be afraid to press any buttons when you have meter!
