An interesting glitch that I discovered a while back

A while (I think a month or so) back, TRP accidentally stumbled upon that pit fatality glitch we all see every now and then. Just for fun, I attempted to do it back to him next round. I noticed slightly different results: instead of the uppercut missing altogether, it took the abilities of a regular uppercut finish; it hit him up into the air, with quick change into the winning pose. I then wondered to myself what would happen if I did this against a wall, and I was certainly pleased with the results. I am unsure as to whether this has been discovered before, as yes, this is an old game, and I apologize to anyone who found the glitch before me, but nevertheless I find it interesting enough to mention here.

Here's how to do the glitch: as Kabal (I haven't investigated if this works with other characters yet; Kabal is probably the easiest to do this glitch with anyway), do the LK, LK, HP, HP, D+HP combo when your opponent has very little HP left. Do it slightly outside of the range of where your uppercuts and popups would force you to move backwards. (If you are in Scorpion's Lair, this is the shadowed area near the end of the stage arena.) Make sure the opponent falls into this area of the stage without you moving backwards. Now, time your pit fatality (BL, BL, HK) so you use it as soon as you land. If you did it too early, your uppercut will miss; if you did it too late, your pit fatality will go on as normal. If you do it just right, though, you will get a regular uppercut. What happens, you ask?

Two things happen: one, the time extending portion of the glitch is preserved. Two, you do NOT go into the winning pose. In other words, this means you have some extra time to beat the crap out of the opponent. Hoorah!

Here are some things to remember about the glitch:

-The time at which the fight will automatically give you the fatality screen and force the end of the match is about 9-10 seconds.
-Basic HPs and LPs will not only miss entirely, but cannot be connected with another basic punch.
-If, during your time extension period, you do another glitch uppercut, you will still gain the effect of not doing the winning pose, but you will not get extra time.
-All dial-a-combos, ducking moves, and kick moves are used properly.
-Due to the effect of the "FINISH HIM/HER!" screen where uppercuts decrease in recovery time for the purpose of activating the pose earlier, and the fact that you cannot reach the winning screen, you can now string together combos stemming from uppercuts. For example, Kabal can do a spin successfully after an uppercut.
-The only fatality that can be done is another pit fatality.

So anyway, feel free to discuss the glitch in this topic. Posting your own way of finishing off the opponent while using this glitch would be an interesting ground for discussion also (in fact, mine is (as Kabal) throw followed by uppercut, spin, uppercut, roundhouse, followed by a run and a quick execution of a pit fatality, just in case you're wondering).

Yeah, I would say it is pretty well known, but most people can't time it properly. The wall pushback from the uppercut overrides the victory pose after the pit glitch.

Nicely documented though.
It is too bad you cant do other fatalities or other stuff after these to make it more fun.

Thanks for documenting this. I've seen it happen but never really paid attention to the details of how it happened before. Good stuff.

I think this is a perfect way to start a DIY Brutality.

There are similar examples in the some of the combo videos, like getting a spin in the corner after the uppercut and then performing the pit when it actually hits and it doesn't knock them off the screen. Although missing it and not going into the victory pose is interesting.

w00t, I get credit for showing him how to do it! >.>

I was always wondering how to consistently get to the part where you can move around and hit the guy though. Good find.

Works with everyone else. :D jk starter works in corner.

and anything to knock them down that you can recover in time for a pit uppercut.
