What's new

Alright... I need a frame trap explanation.

Now, before anyone starts, I know the basic idea of a frame trap, IE catching someone while they are recovering from blocking a combo, my issue is I seem to have horrid timing on follow ups for FT's.

To put things in perspective, I main Bane, was spending a few hours in practice with the AI set to block everything, the only move I could consistently hit with while they were recovering was a DP, I could hit a command grab from time to time, but not consistently, even though that's what I'm shooting for.

To my actual question, whats the best timing for input on Bane's FT followups, IE while the combo's finishing, right when it finishes, or what have you.
Sorry for the small wall of text.

Frame traps are used to catch people pressing buttons, you're basically leaving them a frame or two so you catch the startup of whatever. I mostly just do mixups when I play Bane, but I'm pretty sure a blocked b23 works if you follow it up with 113, which then combos into body press.

Everything I just said might be a lie, though.

A frame trap is when you do a string or move in general that grants you frame advantage on block and the next follow-up string or move cannot be avoided i.e. it must be blocked. Technically, you may be able to avoid a frame trap by jumping away or back dashing, but if you want a legit frame trap, it must be one where the opponent cannot do anything but block the next sequence of attacks.

EXAMPLE: Lex Luthor has a 2, 2, d+1 string which gives him +2 frames on block I believe. If you follow up with his Corps Charge (a special which usually has 6 frames of start-up), the attack will come out in 4 frames since you subtract the advantageous 2 frames you received from a blocked 2, 2, d+1 from the start-up of Corps Charge. Not many attacks are 4 frames or quicker so chances are against most characters, 2, 2, d+1 into Corps Charge is a frame trap. If the opponent doesn't respect it and does anything but block, he will get hit by the special.

Hope this clarifies things.
