Did I miss anyone? There were a few others who played whose names I didn't catch. There were at least a dozen people around UMK3 at any one time and enough players that I could even get in games of MvC2 between waiting my turn and many times where we lost track of whose turn it was. It was great seeing 8 quarters up on the console at any one time as well. It was like stepping back into 1995. That UMK3 machine made at least $50 tonight. As soon as I get word on the next tournament I'll post info. I hope the reactions of the players who have been attending encourage others to make it out there. I think the average travel time tonight per player was about 1.5 hours. The kid who runs the snack bar said it was one of the busiest nights they've had in a while and basically at 1:05 AM he said "Get the fuck out!" On a side note, I had TWO Break Steaks tonight and I believe so did Frankie. They were delarcious.

The best part was that it was a crowd of UMK3 players walking out when the place closed and not a slow trickle down of players leaving over the course of the night. I think the late start is actually a bit better.

Hahahhaah, that was awesome. Great to meet some more UMKers in person. GGs to all!!! As usual, the action was intense and the steaks were immaculate. A busy night and the UMK crew basically owned the place. Indeed, we were partying like it was 1995!

Shock, somewhere on that video we got a nice zoom-in shot of the control panel with 8 quarters on it. Something beautiful for posterity's sake. And Frankie has inspired me to work on my coin-flinging skills... those bank-shots were impressive!

I will go through the vids possibly tomorrow night. I'm contemplating switching my day off to Monday if possible so I get through this stuff. I missed a lot of taped matches while eating the Steaks. I'm glad everyone likes taping matches it seems. I am use to recording everything when I'm not playing and it gets tiresome but I think there's at least 4 of us who rotated.

The bottom line is this. UMK is getting players to come out of their homes to play UMK3, and that is a good thing. I'm forseeing a very nice sized tournament in the near future.

Yea man, this is awesome. I gave a shoutout to UMK3.com, you shock, and XBL for bringing out the classics. XBL does play a big part in this, in the grand scheme of things. Hell, I would never have found this site and came down without XBL.

The games were sick. I got a SICK quarter 2-sided bank shot after I lost one game, I wanna see it on video :) . I took the best quarter shot I could too of the quarters on teh screen. That camera is a little bit blurry though, hopefully I didnt do a poor job on that quarter shot :) . Need to figure out how to manually focus (if you can), and just set it right and leave it for the evening.

Either way it was AWESOME! I love the arcade man, I wont be down for a few weeks though myself, but soon enough I'll slide on by again. maybe in a month or something.

funny, I remember before UMK3 came out on the XBLA, some people seemed to think that the console release would kill the already-dwindling tournament scene. But a bunch of us were saying how it would increase interest in the game, and in turn would encourage more people to come out for live competition.

History is already proving who made the right call on that one.

You would have to figure that out for yourself :) . Tri-state area (NJ, NY, CT) is always a heavily active area... your right near manhattan too. Whether its video games, car shows, music events, or anything thats just how it is.

Side note: I think my 2 hour drive can be done in 1.5 hours :D . I got home in 1 hour 45mins tonite, and that was doing 60 with busta uppa. I'm more of a 70-75mph kinda guy mwahahaha!

There are tournaments all over the country, every weekend at various arcades, halls, rented buildings, etc. 8 on the Break is a pretty nice size arcade with pool tables, pinball, lots of arcade games and a snack bar. They run weekly mini tournaments and monthly bigger ones. You can go to a site like shoryuken.com and it'll give you a good idea what tournaments are going on where.

As for what has been happening recently, I think it is an indication that people still want to see how others play without lag, and a fixed intended controller configuration. I can't tell you how many times I heard tonight things dancing around the concept of "I can't do this stuff in lag" and it kinda irritates me because they shouldn't have to play in lag when this is available to them.

I am going to talk with Phi about restoring the machine a bit, I'm willing to put up a chunk of the money for a new monitor but if anyone wants to pitch in and they are willing to put it in for us, I'd appreciate it. I believe the one in it now is from the original MKII factory hardware and if the current upward trend of players continues, we will definitely need something better. We'll be able to have gatherings on a regular basis to the point where it won't be 100% necessary for say, "Shock" to be there everytime just to get players to go, etc. Even if it's once a month that'd be great. My goal is to get at least one big tournament by the end of the year, whether it's for a scheduled tournament gathering, or we all just show up and run it ourselves on a Saturday.

Also, some of the attack buttons were sticking tonight, moreso on P2, it wasn't unplayable but annoying enough that they need to be adjusted. The sticks are basically perfect.

They need to get a bigger, better setup like the MvC2 machine. I cant stand playing so close to someone and bumping, I mean its ok but MvC2 is better. I dont need a bigger screen just more room hehe.

Either way I agree, I like the optical sticks myself, and there nice and stiff and the stalk is not to big. Its great playing without lag. The whole fighting style off line you have to change to play hehe. I wish I could have more practice and get my run jabs quicker again. I actually started to see improvement this evening with them, a bit quicker but still not what I consider up to par for myself. And I cant land the freakin 100% combo with kung lao makes me wanna punch myself in the balls LOL! I went and played Capcom vs. SNK2 and can do like 1000000 dragon punches in a row (same motion basically) but only like 3 kung lao spins..... ahhhhhhh

I got at least a 13 hit cross screen juggle with Kung Lao tonight using JP whiff DK aaHP. It was a lot easier tonight than last week for some reason. I wouldn't expect the Break to put UMK3 in a big cab like MvC2, even though I'd like that very much. =) That was the treatment I got at the Freehold Mall when UMK3 came out. I never saw that type of cab before and was amazed. To see UMK3 in that again would bring a tear to my eye.

Steve & I say thank you to another great night. Putting quarters up on the machine and forgetting who is really next is a GREAT old school feeling:)

Hope we do that again soon my friends!!!

Last true arcade experiences for me on UMK3 were right before MKT was released. After that, literally ALL of my MK buddies disappeared, still haven't seen any of them since. I really wanted to learn MKT with them, and to this day I haven't spent much time at all on the game aside beating on my brother (today I almost got 4 axes with Nightwolf using the Hori PS3 stick lol).

Oh man that was so great last night. The food, the competition man I really missed it. It was so much fun to be able to talk to other ppl with common interest all while waiting for my shot to take down the guy building up a streak...incredible.

Thnx guys for such a great night. Hopefully we can do it again soon.

I'm going to go on a mission to find a UMK3 machine in the NY/boroughs area. See if we can get some NJ guys to come up, and maybe there are some CT guys that would come down or PA guys. Might be a bit more centralized location.

I would like to try and find another machine to possibly have a couple of places to meet up. We can make it like a regular thing but just move around to different locations.

Where im at in NY im right by the border of NJ and about 15 mins away from NYC. I'll meet at the break or anywhere else to have matches like we did last night.

Dunellen is the most centralized point for PA, NY and Conn, plus people just know what the Break is. There is a UMK3 machine at University Pinball. I haven't played on it in years but the last time I did it was terrible.

I'm sure something along those lines, I'm guess it's a 25" in there, but otherwise I'm don't really specialize in hardware. Dreemer will probably be able to verify. Whatever the case may be I'll talk to Phi about it when I see him on.
