Tech - Smoke 21 Phase Toward Reverses Inputs

Didn't see anyone post this or talk much about it so I decided to share it to all.

For some reason, if Smoke does 21 Phase Towards, it reverses inputs of someone trying to do a reversal attack. Not only that, it leaves smoke in the same position he started the string in, while the opponent is doing a reversal on the other side, completely leaving them for a free punish.

For those wondering why you would do this, the full 21 string has a gap, so you would do 21 Phase to bait the armor and punish (21 Phase is safe). Not only that, the 21 string ends in an OH, so you can stagger it to set up pressure, grabs or even go for b1 if you're really itchy for damage.

OOooh that's really nice, didn't know about it! Now we just need a way to condition them to want to do a reversal after 21 - which can be tricky if they know it's + on block. I assume it's punishable by a standing jab, right?

Have you tested this vs multiple reversals? It could be a hitbox thing and I just want to be sure its universal.

Niiiice find man, I will have to mess around with this. All this phasing through people almost makes me wish the game engine worked like Injustice with back to block lul.

Ive only tried a few characters so far. The tech either reverses all reversals (kenshi), some (Kitana) or none (Cassie).

I believe at max range this works with his b2,1 string as well. Was just messing with it in training mode with sub set to EX slide. It worked a handful of times but couldn't seem to pin down what I did to make it work sometimes and get blown up the next.

Yea it works b21. Just did it. It's weird tho because it doesn't happen all the time

b21 doesn't have a gap at max distance or at max d1 range so the invincibility frames of Phase allows you to pass through reversals. Otherwise you will get blown up for the gap in b21 if they're mashing a reversal (in the proper direction). Also, stationary reversals like Lao's spin will catch the end of your phase

Does this reverse inputs, or does it reverse only the reversal?

I don't see this being useful unless it only reverses the reversal. Otherwise the opponent would have to know to reverse their inputs, and if your baiting their reversal out, then they naturally wouldn't be thinking to reverse inputs.

I think it depends on your opponent and what they tend to do with their plus frames but you make a fair point.

If 1 whiffs, theres a gap and that happens every now and then since its range is shorter than 2.

It's weird. With some characters there's only a gap midscreen, but no gap in the corner. For other characters it's vice versa.

That string has hitbox issues like crazy tho lol
