I wish I was Under_The_Mayo 's woman so I could convince him to do a reading of this.
Here goes...


In the beginning...something caught my interest when things took flight here in Injustice.

At first, it just seemed like a passing phase. Experimentation. Breaking the glass ceiling.
But then things began to stick. And this interesting thing did not change in the process.

Catwoman.

People fucking love Catwoman.

And in the beginning, she was taken up and fleshed out by people I wasn't expecting in the least to carry her banner, at least not from an aesthetic viewpoint. These were players I figured would've gone searching for a battleplan similar to that from which they'd emerged in MK9. Certain death and dirty damage, and all of these things that, in the beginning, didn't strike me as very cat-like.
But they didn't even waver. They became cats.

And, in the beginning, I thought, "Why Selina? Just what is so appealing about being a cat?"

...But this was in the beginning.

While I may frequent many a character for joyous havoc and troll-based entertainment, there are very few I ever take seriously, and there is NO ONE, not even my beloved mercenary main, Deathstroke, whom I have panned over and looked into and decalculated with the enamored fury I have carried into my study of Miss Kyle. I've kept it to myself so as to solve the problems with my own wits and Sherlock Holmes powers for a change without being called a whore (which I am, but Selina is a lady, and so I give her my utmost respect ;) ), but my study has brought me to a conclusion...a theory about just what it is that's drawn certain players, and continues to draw in players, to the comforting, razor-sharp company of our dearest kitten,

...In a nutshell, it's like a felonious, flame-retardant version of the A + B + C = X recall formula in Fight Club.

Catwoman is the best of two formerly Kombative worlds, with filth and fury that's classier than the both of theirs put together.

Here's the theory...

-Take the general effects of a special move set of an MK character and re-harness them in the shape of an Injustice warrior...A.
-Take the general strategic implementation of another MK character, and re-imagine it via the tools that warrior now possesses...B.
-Combine these two general playstyles in a way that personifies them both strongly and equally, without amplifying it beyond rational sense...C.

A + B + C = X.

Cyrax + Quan Chi + The Injustice Fighting Engine = Catwoman.

Look at Cyrax's specials:
-The Net, the Bomb, the Ragdoll, the Air Throw, the Buzzsaw, the Teleport, and for giggles, the B2.

Now look at Catwoman's...
-The Dash, Cat Stance, the Low Whip, the High Whip, the Straight Whip, the Evades, and the Claws.

While Cyrax was easily the superior specimen given his environment given that his Net captured in air, his Bombs launched, he had his EX moves, etc...there's a stunning similarity between the two. Sure, it could be argued other people could be lined up and look similar as well, but it's bizarre just how well the kitten lines up compared to the robot, especially given how popular he is among Cyrax players.

Think about what those moves all do collectively...

A stun capture maneuver, a multi-faceted guess-or-die tool, optimal midscreen control between a low KO, an anti-air KO, and a straight KO, a means to get away from any height of attack, and a launching juggle.
A point for point match. They could donate a lung to each other, they're so similar.

NOW...think about her basic fundamental game, as it stands now.
It could be safely said that she falls under a midscreen-strong bracket, a punisher over almost all other things, with tools to either become terrifying once inside, or turn their metagame inside out by defying their logic and removing them from their comfort zone completely.
These are descriptions that epitomize the structure of Quan Chi. And while we may be a long way from the Rune Trap, the Mayo Trap, or any other manner of bright lights, condiments or traps, she most certainly abides by the same fundamentals with the amount of damage she can get away with just by being slick and adorable. Whereas Quan Chi was built more around his precious magic, Catwoman excels in being quickly quick to the punch, between the 6F 1, the 7F D1, the FIVE FRAME iA1...speed. Speed of fucking hand.

I'll add more later, as I must run.
But I want opinions.

I havnt paid much attention to these forums, just been playing figuring stuff out but you sound pretty bang on. cat dash seems like a safer trance almost :D

She reminds me of Skarlet in many ways, which is why I've taken to her.

Yeah she has that Skarlett feel as well as Mileena. And now she has leaders from the Skarlett, Quan, Cyrax, and Kenshi communities collaborating on her.

She`ll be light on game-changing tech, but full of little surprises and frustration tactics. She may be the most irritating character to lose to. My friend beat me repeatedly with superman, and then I beat him 6 games in a row and he just walked out of the house!

She gets to save her meter, which is huge in my opinion. Character`s like superman and GL have to use meter on big combos, she doesn`t. She saves it for EX Dash and those stupid as hell armored back3`s. And her wakeup trait is godlike.

I fucking love this chick, Mayo. I mean, damn. That face, right when the Clash kicks on, and she just has that thousand yard stare of murerous determination, armed with nothing but some goggles, some claws, and a pretty smile, and a Whip, and BAM!, there comes the pain.

AND THIS MAKES IT DEEPER, because that's exactly how it behaves. Not 100% safe, but safer at least.
As in, more people are afraid of a naked Dash than were EVER afraid of a naked Trance, especially an MB Dash.
Sure, the B3 follow-up after doesn't launch, but the KO afterward allows for extra shenanigans against weak wakeups and uncertain minds.

:D Thank you, my friend. And yes, between the B2 ala U4, Whip ala Sais/Cat Stance ala Dagger Cancels...I fucking LOVE being a cat.

She's going to be the Mileena of this game. I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic Fox wins a tourney with her one day.
She'll be the consistent medium, always prevalent amongst the top tier, but never truly fear-feared.
And that's okay, because cats are meant to be adored, not feared.

Maybe Deathstroke is my Sub-Zero after all...

You're right twice. But I think the Kitana correlation leans more towards two things...the pleasing aesthetics (omg that face <3), and their 112's are peas in a pod.
Example of the former...another move similarity between realms: Claws and Dash, and EX Cutter and EX Fan. One works like the other. Jenga.
Except the properties are backwards between the like-appearanced moves.
Claws looks like EX Cutter, but the former launches and the latter knocks down.
Dash functions like EX Fan (combo continuity), but the former grounds and the latter juggles.
Either way, the likenesses are enough to make any Kitana player feel at home as well.
