Option to remove diagonal inputs?

Gesture Required Ahead

Get on that hook
When using MK-style inputs I feel that diagonal inputs aren't needed. How does this affect gameplay you may ask? Well, good sir, it makes it hard to do BF moves unless you're individually pressing the directions.

I'm going to guess stick players have no problems with this but as a pad player I find it hard to execute things like Batman's Batarangs or Slide (F3 or F2 comes out) and it also makes it harder to do iAFs.

Just a suggestion, what do you think?

I'm not sure I understand. So you want DF and DB to register as D? If all diagonals were eliminated, how would you jump forward or backward?

But aren't jump ins (up-forward/up-back) considered diagonals?

In MK9, "Diagonal" inputs were considered as 2 different inputs. Even if they were pressed simultaneously.

For example, UF would be U , F but you'd still be jumping forwards.

Removing diagonal inputs would mean that when I'd do a BF move by sliding my thumb across my pad it would be read as (B , D , F) intead of (B , D , DF , F) and the difference would be that without the diagonal inputs, my BF move would come out.

Im having this same issue and its infuriating I iwsh there was some way to change because i cant properly punish anything with flashes elbow dash and i suck with lanterns zoning because of it idk i might just suck but its comforting knowing im not the only one with this issue

Yes, things like this. GL's Oa Rockets and Chain Gun come out slower due to me having to individually press Back and Forward instead of just sliding it.

its really annoying i just got too frustrated with it and really dont use Hal anymore because of it. I was used to sliding back forward in MK so it just feels awkward and sluggish having to individually put it in

I guess I don't really see it. While I agree the controls in this game are far from perfect, I play on pad with default controls, and I can slide from B to F without any problems. It's still faster than a HCF motion. Just don't be so heavy with your thumb and hit every direction in between.

I thought I was the only one. I swear it was easier to do BF in MK.

Yeah, I hear ya hopefully they won't change it in MK and keep it like MK has always been with taps and slides. :)

As far as the topic, my really only issue aside from some moves needing to be precisely tapped is Cyborg's grappling hook...weirdest move...why make a move down, forward, up? It's just really annoying...should have been down, up A or something...

This is the only move that's better with SF-style inputs 'cause you'd have to do 2369( This is in Soul Calibur notation, easier to explain this way)

But it would suck to have to switch input modes just for this 1 move and it makes it harder to do iaFBs 'cause it's a HCF motion.

hmm. I noticed that there ARE moves that use diagonal moves. (Supes and Catwoman's 3H(Again, in Soul Calibur notation, my bad))

But I'm sure that there are work-arounds to this. Perhaps make Supes 3H into 626H(FDF3 aka Dragon Punch). Or something.

I'm disliking it also but for another reason, down then forward+attack(qcf in sf terms) moves can come out by simply doing d and df without even having to hit the forward...why. So the ACTUAL input of moves in combination with the how long this game remebers the inputs makes it pretty annoying in some instances, even with release check off.

I don't feel Injustice is catered to stick users at all. Heck even when viewing some 3d models of the characters they have "press analog for zoom". Somehow coming from Street Fighter even i find the sf inputs too strict somehow(the half circle to forward inputs...), but that is not relevant to this topic.

I knew you were gonna say something. ...ass ahaha
lol.. How'd you know I was going to pop into this forum though?

PS: I still do slide inputs when on default in Injustice and sliding works for me.

(but I change my kontrols as you already know, so I haven't been using them that long in this game.)

One thing that bugs me about diagonal inputs is with up+button command normals (KF U3, Deathstroke B1U2, etc). It seems like they only come out if you specifically do up, and not if you do ub or uf. Now it's not that hard to accurately do an up generally, but in a match when you're not focusing on it specifically its really easy to accidentally get a diagonal and then you drop your combo. I don't see how making these moves come out on up diagonals would break the game in any way whatsoever, but turning off diagonals would be another decent solution.

It's like Chun Li headstomps all over again.

I'd just like to say that as a fighting game noob, I am glad to see it is not just me who can get frustrated trying to do moves or combo strings.

I will have to admit though that I never thought of taking out the diagonals. Instead I always wished they loosened up the straight direction area so that slight diagonal inputs were read as straight, and it was the actual diagonal commands that were tightened up requiring a direct diagonal to be input.

If that makes sense.
