What's new

From a Dedicated MK fan

I got an email today from my friend who's been playing MK since the very beginning, some of you might recognize him, he brings up a lot of good points and I thought I'd share it.

After 20 years of fighting game making, Boon & Co. still can't get it right (infinite discovered in new game just days before release!). It's been pointed out that they have never done what other fighting game developers have done, which is to work on the game they created to improve it, making an effort to take their creation and make it into a solid fighting game--something that would garner community support (i.e., people want the game because they know the developers care, and that it's worth having since caring developers have invested themselves into it on every level).
MK Deception was the first online game and was heartily embraced by existing fans as well as new ones. Though not perfect, it had a lot to offer and is still arguably one the best MK games ever made. However, at the time they didn’t have the ability to fix it via hot patches, and it was riddled with things like infinites, OTGs, and Bo Rai Cho’s f3 in weapon (ridiculous reach and free throw with OTG and/or 50/50 set up making him top tier across the entire roster because of it).
In the era of MK9, with a reintroduction to 2D fighting and the ability to patch, the developers had a chance to take a well-designed fighting game and work with it until it was rid of major glitches and better balanced. Instead, they went to work on a completely different game! Which brings me to my next point.
Every time Boon & Co. make a new game they change the dynamics so much that--instead of fixing broken aspects of previous games--we are introduced to new glitches and imbalances. They've done it again with Injustice, and they'll most likely do it again with MK10.
The question is: why?
Mortal Kombat has an interesting universe of characters, with an equally interesting storyline. Unfortunately for us, the fans, it is in the wrong hands. Imagine what the franchise would be like if it were in the hands of a team like the one behind Street Fighter, with genuine effort, care and concern.
The solution?
Find another fighting game. Play MK too if you like, but don't give it (and certainly not the latest P.O.S. Injustice) the time it doesn't deserve. Put what little time you have left in a day into a fighting game that is worth investing that time into.
Time to find a new fighting game.

everything i feel about for injustice is completely the opposite to you, i think its brilliant, i think the character design is brilliant, i think there level of analysis is brilliant, of course there are gonna be wholes in a new system. Rather than stifling the characters, they have become creative and open have given all the characters amazing options. the game is amazing period, its going to require patching because its a brand new system. Sorry that netherrealm goes for gold rather than creating a completely restricted game that is super-similar to its predecessors.. its a new game.

Seven i disagree with how you play mk9 personally, and i disagree completely with your analysis of injustice... this game has reads upon reads and a storyline and everything... their effort to please us is there, but perfection can not be achieved in a new system. You wont have a chance in this game unless you have an open mind... People do not appreciate this company enough. Its fuckign absurd

learn to use your godddamn brain and be open-minded.

now i realize why anti-static hates everyone.

1. I would slap the guy who sent you that email.

2. People have preferences; we can choose whatever we want to play. Yes, I hate MK9 at times, but I still prefer it over any other fighter out there.

3. Don't be so quick to judge Injustice right off the bat, it's out via a leak and broken date stores. The patch hits release day where everyone SHOULD have started to learn the game from scratch. Not my fault if they adjusted to the leaked version.

4. While I do think NRS isn't as experienced in making fighters as other corporations, they still deliver.

AND FYI, MK9 was a far, far better step (should I say lunge) in the right direction.

They will learn from their mistakes. And also, after UMK3, all other games were not tournament focused, centered. MK9 was the latest game to direct some of its gamers to the tournament scene, and to this day, is doing a fine job at tournaments. Sure, numbers are bound to die off, but 2 years? That's great.

5. I would slap your friend yet again.

I don't understand how you and Antistatic are so ignorant when I say, I HAVE TO PLAY THE WAY I PLAY. I use Ermac........ I can barely counter poke with this shitty character. I have to use gimmicks because Ermac wouldn't get anywhere without them. Also since I've picked up Liu Kang, I've been playing much more "normal", except for the random dive kicks :D

yes another thread where someone wants to slam the game.....again....Look if you don't like Injustice go play capcom games seriously...why it every player that bitches about a fighter think they are someone important. Devildigimon does this same shit on facebook.

no you don't, you will take unnecessary risks all the time even witht he lifelead, how about you try outplaying someone for once rather than using the same random gimmicks. you try to take the easy way out that it your problem, you can win with ermaic.

Injustice will be a disapointment if they handle the patching the same way as they did in MK 9.

Okay, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there are already infinites in the game. Developers are not all knowing Gods, they cant predict how the rules can be bent in games till it's been revealed. They just need to make more THOROUGH patches when dealing with this game.

Cause the patches in MK 9 were too soon, too rushed with no thought. Cause there are characters in MK 9 that still have infinities and that will still never be changed. I mean if Batman has 150% combos, that needs to be addressed. But at the same time dont suddenly think "Hmm, Joker, Catwoman and Grundy....you know lets just let nerf them for NO REASON", ala Jade, Kano and Sindel.

What's a Smarrgasm?
Seven something you and your friend need to realize, these guys (NRS) work for Warner Brothers. They do what they are told and make their game how they think most fans will like it. Balance is something they work on very hard but it is definitely not their first priority cause as always competitive gamers are maybe 1% of the people that will buy this game. I love that NRS is trying new things. I dont want game clone after game clone with minimal changes. Either way i will probably love this game just like i did MK9 and its new and exciting and moving forward for our community.
