What part of the timeline should MK12 Focus on?

I think the writers of MK need to get past the cycle of MK doing fairly quick reboots. I thought Kronika rebooting the timeline was so gimmicky, lame and way too early - we only had MK 9 and X before rebooting the storyline again. There were a few missed opportunities prior to rebooting the game again eg Liu/Kit going evil and Dark Raiden (which should have been a game in itself).

This made me wonder where everyone thinks that the story should start?

I had a look at the full historical storyline for MK and for me, the fall of Edenia and the minor realms (Zatera/Vaeternus etc) would be a cool place to start. It is a major plot line and the key turning point for many of the events which happen later. It would also come with a fairly clear list of characters who could be in the roster and the new characters would make sense rather than just being new lame jobbers. Think:

Jerrod
Rain
Kitana
Shao Khan
Tanya
Goro
Mileena
Shinnok
Shang Tsung
Reptile
Argus
Delia
Nitara
Raiden
Sindel
etc etc
and obviously you would have to include Sub / Scorp somehow

The missing fan faves could be released in themed packs which would sell like hotcakes:

You could have a Special Forces pack released a month after - 4 of Johnny/Jax/Sonya/Jaqui/Cassie etc
A ninja pack - Ermac / Smoke / Tremor / Noob etc
White Lotus - Kung Lao / Liu / Kung Jin / Fujin etc
3D Pack - Havik / Hotaru / Ashrah / Kenshi / Li Mei etc

What are your thoughts?

Prequel era (Great Kung Lao) combined with some form of reboot for MK1. Flashback and forth. Really just to give us some fresh blood and ideas in the old era but also set up the franchise for more down the road. Liu Kang Aftermath ending. Don't mess up classic storylines that make characters cool but be original, we already did the great reboot

If they need to justify how a newer character fits like Cassie, make her a Sarah Connor-style time traveler. Things like that, don't actually make time travel a big plot point though

Keep in mind with Mortal Kombat 11 "rebooting" the timeline, the modern trilogy was nearly a decade old at that point. With how big reboots and multiverses are today, it's honestly not a huge surprise.

I still suspect we're going to get something new. If they do pick up after "Aftermath," I still say go with Shang's ending and lead on from there. We'd then have a timeline very different from the one we know, and darker as well.

Also, avoid the 3D era and it's characters near completely.

I'm going to say this fully aware that the game is finished already and so is the story but I'd love to see something like multiverse stuff being out of whack because of the time bull crap that happened in MK11 and the rewriting of history and all that.

And not just in the intros. Think, the Stargate episode where there's like 15 SG-1 teams from different universes. We could get a universe where the good guys are bad, a universe where Cassie never joined the military and is just a biotch. A universe where Johnny does nut headbutts instead of nut punches. A universe where Sub and Scorp are lovers :confused:

You get my drift.

Would love for it to start in the The Great Kung Lao era which I think was set up nicely in the end of Aftermath

Could have Fire God Liu Kang in the mix as well, taking on a Raiden-esque role in training The Great Kung Lao for his battle against Goro (perhaps he survives this time since he'll be better prepared.) ((And hopefully Liu Kang doesn't have to consult with the Elder Gods every 5 minutes.))

Geras could also make a return!

Geras: You're good, but you're no Great Kung Lao
Kung Lao: You've met my ancestor?
Geras: He stood a chance against me. You have none.

We could also see Nightwolf's ancestor, the original female Nightwolf. (Also, if they got the lead actress from Prey to play her...that'd be a 10/10. Simply because I adore her and that movie.)

I'd also love to see an Edenia prior to Shao Kahn's invasion.

I feel like we could get one of Kuai Liang's ancestors since the title 'Sub-Zero' has been passed down through generations. Same with Scorpion. It won't be Hanzo or Kuai Liang, but I feel like since it's a refresh of the timeline that doesn't matter.

Either way, there's definitely a way for them to set the new timeline 500 years in the past, while keeping plenty of familiar faces while adding in lots of new, and hopefully interesting additions!

Fun fact which I learned from @Evil Canadian : David Midthunder was the face model for Nighwolf in MK11, and his daughter Amber Midthunder is the lead actress from Prey. So Amber being a face model for MK12 would be pretty cool.

I love this idea, mainly because it'd be an excuse to do a ton of new characters, and it'd be a chance to flesh out the lore a bit more. The only problem is how to retain popular legacy characters in this kind of timeline.

Another reason I prefer they go with Shang's ending. In addition to having more potential to do things in ways we haven't seen before, bringing in popular legacy characters is quite simple to do.

This is interesting. We should have all the characters from MK1 and MK2 we can.

I'm a couple days late, but I just gotta say it's almost 4:30 in the morning and this information blew my fucking mind.

I could see them redoing the deadly alliance and onaga thing.

Its a more far off chance but i could see them doing the orginal tourny with the great kung lao and all the oldies.

I could see something with Havik as the main baddie. Maaaaybe even blood god and reiko stuff (i know the comic is no longer canon).

Mainly I just hope it revolves around a mystical tournament again. I'm tired of reboots, time travel, and multiverse shit.

Most likely tho it will be the Titan shit. I really hope its not Titan and multiverse horseshit. But nrs writers lately feel like yet another group chasing the coat tails of the MCU.

Mileena is too soon.
Shao Kahn only considers about making an evil version of Kitana, Milineas later when she starts to show indications that she can align with earth realm, the fact that she could speak freely, think freely and disagree with that he had planning on top of having a royalty status is what makes him order Mister Shang Tsung to bake up an evil clone in order to kill her and replace her, he got the clone part, he just never got to kill kitana.

I think Argus and Delia are a bit too far as they are elder gods, but Taven and his brother Darius could be good at this part of the plot, Gorbak over Goro would be good as well, if they are really going from the begnining.

The Great Kung Lao would definitely be the MC in the story.
You can Replace Scorpion with the Shirai Ryu founder, Mister Takeda Himself (Not Kenshi's Son)
And Sub-Zero can easily be, Bi-Han and Kuai Liang's Father, as he is also an outworlder would be cool to explore the Sub-Zero Archtype, since Frost is more of a Cyber now (meh)
I'd also say Bo' Rai Cho but a Yonger Version of Him.

Mileena wouldn't be in it, she didn't come to be until the 10th tournament but this concept has been discussed here before: Mortal Kombat Zero.

Also:
Jade
Daegon
Taven
Fujin
Reiko
Quan-Chi
Rain

In Deception, they had an ancestor of Sub-Zero train Shujinko so they could have a Cryomancer in it as well & they could have an ancestor of Scorpion too & both were in Mortal Kombat: Conquest.

Mortal Kombat: Conquest which was a TV show (didn't last long) that I used to watch before watching WCW when I was 4 about The Great Kung Lao had several characters from Edenia & Outworld who would have been present.
