Hey Kasuals! Share your progress on becoming a better player!

I just wanted to unite all the people that are not that good so we can share what we're getting better at and learn with better players on how to improve.

I realized i'm getting better at remembering strings and specials! I also discovered you can use most specials after a flying kick and that made my kombos like WAYYYY better.
Still having trouble with wake-ups and air escapes tho.

A big thing for me was switching to a lower tier character.

Upon release of MK11 I mained Scorpion and had a pocket Geras (before either were confirmed top 5). Winning with them seemed too easy and almost unfulfilling.I didn't really feel good about winning because those characters' tools are much stronger than what most characters have.

I switched to Frost.
She whiffs on a BUNCH of shit, has some long reaching normals, but her fastest button S1 whiffs if you aren't literally standing on the other person's toes, a hard to connect ji2 without being AA'd, some ok projectile options and decent combo potential.
Playing with her has taught me sooooo much about footsies and being at the correct ranges to punish or be safe. Plus it feels awesome when I beat a Scorpion, Noob, Geras, Sonya, Sub Zero etc player with her because I know it was me doing the work not my character's tools.

I'm getting better at coming up with a rough game plan, and integrating throws into my offense. The biggest thing I struggle with right now is punishing the easy stuff. or stuff the opponent just keeps repeating over and over again. For example I played a Kung Lao, and he spent literally the entire match just teleporting into his mix. I knew what he was going to do, but I just couldn't reliably punish it. I must have been hit by at least 10+ throws out of that thing. Then I did a bad job of blocking on wakeup, and kept getting hit by his simply meaty combo.

b2212 is your best friend lol, hit them with it a couple times and incorporate staggers and they wont want to push buttons when you're within range
f2 is fast as hell and far reaching, you can punish a lot of shit from a distance on reaction, even hitting people out of the air as long as they arent point blank
b32d1 launches for a combo and starts with a low, you have to be close to use it but if you condition them with the b2212(last two hits are overhead) you can catch people
Her glacial barrier combined with the core detonation (might have messed up the name there) are great for shutting down full screen zoning enough for you to get in to your b22 range

those are the basics I roll with right now, and obviously full combo punishing whenever possible :) She does well in the corner

VERY WELL I must add. Once @Kindred got me in the corner I was pretty much dead, but that is probably because I did not know her that well Lmao

Her corner game is underrated by a lot of players I think.
She can stay at a safe distance to punish you for 300+ damage if you whiff a button or jump, and she will keep you jailed there.
The only issue is once people figure out the low of the b3 string hitting, it gets a little harder to open people up but then you can throw in the short hop 2's and the 344 string that hits low with the 44

best tip for his teleport i found is when he starts the animation to throw the hat behind you hold forward full combo punish. you can walk away from any of the options or dash. when you read it then see that hat coming walk it out XD

Thanks. I'm hoping to get a chance to hit practice mode soon, I'll check this out.

My current issue is teching throws. I do it by accident sometimes, but it's never intentional. It seems I just cannot react fast enough. I know I'll improve if I keep deliberately practicing it but in the meantime, I am pretty free to throws.
Yep that's what im working on. also neutral ducking and d2 whiffed throws

What's the point of a random Krypt?
I'm not a great player by any means, but I was a complete Noob when I joined here during the early MK9 days. This forum helped me so much to improve. I think understanding frame data, and knowing yours and your opponents frames is incredibly important to becoming a better player. And this may be obvious, but you need to spend time on the training mode. Not just practicing combos, but learning the max range of your moves, learning how to punish certain moves, learning to do cancels so you can keep your pressure going, learning what jails to what.

Watching tournaments helps to see how you are supposed to play a character, and Its super important to fight people who are better than you. You might lose twenty times in a row, and even more, but if you pay attention to what you do, what he does, if you try to take those matches more like lessons rather than being desperate to try to win, you'll learn a lot, and will show on your game.

This has been my experience, and the things that have helped me improve. I don't know if it's much, but I hope it helps.

I haven't played online all that much, simply because I haven't gotten the time to do so. Other than grinding for gear and skin in ToT and clearing the Krypt, I've had some IRL shit happen these past months I've had to focus on. And right now I'm somewhere where I only have wifi connection available to me, so I'm not feeling like playing online.

I only jumped online for the Jade tower to team up with 2 others against her, but the wifi doesn't affect them, so that's fine.

Well, I stopped playing Kano and started playing Kabal and I saw a real boost in my win percentage. So, I guess that means I’m growing as a player!
Or you just picked a better character with a bullshit fatal blow.

Kano is fine, you just were playing him wrong than.

Its gimmicky but I have had to be more creative. Kotal's main combo starter strings are all unsafe if you commit to them and they are blocked so I have practiced purposely not inputting the whole thing and doing surprise throws instead. So like f2 4 don't commit to the 3 but go for a throw instead since most people are still blocking waiting for the low.

This has also helped me learn how to hit confirm in this game. I can hit confirm in SFV fine but had a lot of trouble in MK but ever since I started doing this I can confirm now most of the time. Kotal in particular has also helped my spacing in this game since a lot of his stuff does have decent range.
