Bomb Setups & Ball Rolls(Mileena/Cyrax)
I understand that they are focusing on mind games and footsies which is great and by all means keep that focus but is it just me or does anyone else feel characters are braindead easy and once you get down dial combos like Errons 21212 they are bone dry? I'm looking at these characters hoping to find something besides the few strings wondering is that it!

Is anyone else feeling characters are basic? This game is awesome but I fear bordum unless new tech is discovered and with the characters I've used I'm not seeing much more.
Cancels where fun in mkx and so where the combos allowing so much more. I'm just concerned because well I love this game.

Do you think it needs more depth, then how? If so or if you think it's filled to the brim with depth explain below.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
this game has a different approach if compared with the last one (MKX, what was more focused in crazy fast paced rushdows strategies) , so, it's understable people thinking that MK11 it's pretty basic, lame , simple and deepless .... shallow ..... it's a matter to get used in having to work more or less to set up openings for combos and pressure.

As long as I haven’t mastered all perfect blocks and kb set ups I think this game has a lot to offer
IMO it's a great feature but I think I need more. FB is something that is learned as you gain matchup knowledge over the first year maybe months.

The Characters I use feel shallow when I want to Wade in high water.

Liu Kang is a one trick pony F34 mix.
Erron is basic once you get his strings down.
Sub Zero is about F2 and B32.
Kotal is about wiff punishing at footsie range.

Instead of just doing one thing I'd like to have depth. In MKX you could play the same variation several different ways and still be successful.
I love footsie and I enjoy the game but something feels missing with the characters toolsets, maybe it's combo limitations or it's watered down tools. Not sure but I thought I'd share my feelings on the matter.
Maybe after the patch I'll feel different or when we get custom variations or more Variations?

More depth? Then they need to give us custom variation. We need to play with all the tools available. Theres so much more to this game with custom variation.
this .... if they (NRS) do this, you'll see a much good improvement in this game at competitive level .... give people all move set tools to be used, and the level of gameplay creativity in this game will reach up high standards :p

im pretty happy with raiden but im sure there are less interesting characters. from what ive seen also dvorah, cetrion, frost and jacqui look pretty complex, maybe also kano, kollector and jax. what i also enjoy is playing both variations of my character.

I'm thinking the same. I hope we get character adjustments as well. I always like learning more stuff. Just scared that I feel this way on week 3 when I only felt this way on year 2 in MKX with Cyrax alone(3-29 patch) RIP Cyrax and many others.

Aside from allowing custom variations, I feel that one of the main barriers to characters having depth is that there are so many poorly-balanced normals and combo strings. In a game supposedly focused on neutral and footsies, each character is relegated to only using upwards of 2-3 of their 9+ strings as well as just a few select normals. I feel this is a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed first before anything else gets added.

Also, the MASSIVE disparity in the usefulness of different characters' KBs greatly hinders characters' depth and gameplay identity. This is unacceptable and needs to be changed immediately.

What is keeping you happy with Raiden? Kotal main myself, just feels right but I think he isn't the best to be honest and I have to stay in wiff punish range and live there.
Raiden to me felt like he was lacking combo wise. He has damage but my God they are short. Good buttons though.

This is what happens when devs put a half assed restriction to their competitive games. I have never seen a fighting game that artificially restrict its players of options. Typically fighting game devs wants us to explore all the options and provide a myriad of tools.

Wtf NRS?!

To be fair, the forced tournament variation system is a good way to keep balance in check for the chaos that is the competitive scene in the early days of a fighting game's life. The issue is that it feels like shit to deal with for the 99% of the playerbase that doesn't participate in said tournaments.

I could see why this tournament variation was in place. However you can clearly see that its not working. Alot of these variations dont work and are terrible. Theyre just slapped on together with no sort of thought. This game just wasnt designed to have preset variations. All the characters in this game are half finished on purpose in order to try to make this stupid custom variation work.

its all true you say about raiden. he stays interesting through his generally very tactical and spacing oriented style, electric flight cancels and raijins discharge (raijin is not so strong though). he also can use some really tight execution combos. i really like kotals style too but im just a raiden fan.
