Yes really. If you can tell from an outdated face render that Jacqui/Cet/Kol will not interest you no matter what the rest of them looks like or what they're about, then your tastes are incredibly god damn particular. I hated Jacqui in mkx but I have no idea if I'll hate or love her here. How could I? I have no idea how she'll be.

"The same characters" are, for the most part, the most popular characters in the franchise. Thats why theyre returning. Iirc 6/8 Special Forces characters in MKX were consistently in the top 10 most played characters.
Of course they're the most played, because the other cool characters people wanted in the games were indeed
not in there for people to play as. I'm not saying they aren't popular though, however, that doesn't mean I want them to be in every single game. As I said, it's boring.
Jade, Kabal, Noob, DVorah, Kotal, Frost, Erron, Skarlet, Baraka, Shao Kahn, with a high possibility of Shang, all on the base roster. You don't think these fall in the category of "characters people would love to see"?
They're (mostly) the interesting part of the roster. But there are more characters who're interesting I'd like to see on the roster as well. I don't think that half of the roster are characters which are in all games, and the other half are all replaceable. To me, only Scorpion and Sub-Zero should be secured locks - not because I'm interested in them, but because they are the main faces of the franchise. Everyone else should be rotated through, so more characters who weren't in the past game would get a chance to be on the roster.

That's the thing, NRS keep putting in new characters, which also take up roster spots and means that some characters have an even less chance to return. With half the roster being in every game + new characters being added on the roster, it makes even less space for other fan favourites who are rarely in the games.
And you're already somehow convinced that only 4-5 will interest you.
There are some characters that just don't appeal to me. For that to happen, NRS needs to change the very core of those characters. But that's alright, I don't need for the entire roster to appeal to me. However, I'm repeating myself here, but it would indeed be nice to have more characters returning to the game who weren't in MKX.
