Real Talk: EVO2017

Too bad YOU... will DIE!
I loved it, personally! Great commentary, great production values. The only problem was it felt rushed, especially toward the end (half of Top 16 wasn't even streamed), because of the need to finish on Saturday.

What i am saying is that we pay with our time it's not really free nothing is. I'm not asking for every match to be streamed I'm asking for good matches to be streamed. It's not like there isn't a pre schedule list of potential matches to stream. Those may change depending on how the tournament is going but choosing the potential best is someone's job and he failed at it.
Unless something has changed in the last couple years, the person who decides what to stream is the unpaid volunteer running the pool. Sometimes running a pool is easy, but it can also be a challenge to get things wrapped up on schedule, so occasionally a less-than-amazing pick is made. I know I've sent matches that sounded interesting up to the stage only to watch a one sided blowout.

Also, I think there's an issue of expectations/perception. If the stream was a premium paid deal and the matches were not selected with care, I might agree with you and demand better content. In the current situation, however, I think expecting top quality match curation is a tad unrealistic. After all, it's a tournament, not a variety show. Having pools streamed at all is a luxury.

You choose to watch the stream and spend your time doing so. That point is absolute bullshit. It is 100% free.

I've talked to and had to run stream matches before. Sometimes the top players are already playing their match or playing in another game. Sometimes they straight up don't want to be on stream. There are many times where no high profile players are available to play, so instead of having nothing on stream you put on lesser known players. You usually will have some top players waiting to play on stream, but again some refuse to wait and you have to find someone else. That's not to mention the person running these streams is also often running brackets or doing other things. It is very easy to have high profile matches fall through the cracks, and I can bet that most of the people on this site would fail miserably at running stream matches.

Honeybee's Flash almost made me think this game was fun to watch. The rest of Evo that wasnt Injustice was great can't wait for Dragonball FighterZ beta

Just like commentators used to be unpaid volunteered the time have changed.

See the thing is I'm not asking for top quality I'm just asking for good quality like I have seen in the other streams. If good quality is possible for other gaming community why should we condone mediocrity. If you can't do it right don't do it because nobody is forcing you at least that's my philosophy about this.

I could have watched something else with that time and If no one is watching do you think Warner Bros would invest in it ? Lowering the bar is never the answer may it be Youtube or Twitch streams. You can't expect godlike work but expecting decent work shouldn't make you an abnormality. At the end of the day the time you invest watching the stream turn into money and your viewership should be respected.

Like I said I am not asking for some TV level of bracket/event planning. All I am asking for is something decent when that many top players are in the same tournament but some of them don't have 1 game streamed while we watch Japanese developer X vs player Y you have to ask yourself why?

Times have not changed. Volunteers and bracket runners still do not get paid. Those who run the stream matches do not get paid. Commentators are a completely different thing, but even most of them are not actually paid.

All of your complaints are actually the same complaints most other communities have. A ton of smash upsets were off stream, Tekken pools were mostly scrubs v. scrubs, and SFV was a bunch of blowouts. It is the nature of a tournament like EVO.

So what your last quote is saying is that you'd rather have no stream at all then have some bad matches? That's a very interesting argument to make.

Most viewers could care less about the level of play, they just watch it for fun or to check it out. All of TYM could stop watching and they would still get plenty of viewers.

You could watch something else but that is YOUR choice. If you felt like it was a waste of time you could've just watched something else. It is 100% free and you are sounding like whiny little brat with this "paying with my time" bullshit.

Pools matches are almost always blowouts when top players are involved. That match was actually one of the more interesting matches. Tons of people were hype on seeing the arc sys dev playing their game, and it was kinda funny watching them get bodied by Ducky as well. Nothing can help the amount of blowouts you see in pools. It happens in every game.

I also streamed......... aaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll of it.........................
I think next time, I'll only tune into top 16.... or top 8 only

Ummmmm one of most hype moments of THE ENTIRE WEEKEND, all games included, was honeybees play. Not sure why it's the worst.

So, like I do every year, I spent an unbelievable amount of time working on this video for the company to get this out within a day after EVO (again, like every year.)

As far as Injustice 2, I decided to focus on what happened to SonicFox. I did the research/writing/footage capture/VO on this but after being up over 30 hours on Sunday, I asked one of the guys at Curse to do the editing and thumbnail. Hope you enjoy in case you missed anything:

It will happen depending on games being designed to enable the casual audience. If a game is accessible enough, continuing the Disney/ESPN2 kind of stuff will help slowly grow it.

The bigger the audience, the harder it will be to ignore it as an advertiser. The more companies that take notice, the more money available to make it better and better.

I am sure most competitive scenes for sports or whatever had similar struggles in the beginning.

Honeybee beating Sonicfox was by far the hypest moment, come on now lol.
Considered it, but it wasn't necessarily an indication of how the rest would go down for Fox - matter of fact I think it was the very first match of the Top 8 if I remember correctly. ...although I should say if Fox wasn't such a force I would have been all over Honeybee in general in the vid.

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
In my opinion, a game's first EVO shouldn't be held to tight, unforgiving standards.
This is just one of the first major spotlight this game has yet to be put under.
There's still 8 more characters to be put in the meta's rotation. Patches. Updates. Changes. Etc.

IMO, my only #1 hope for the show was that Grand Finals turned out better than 2013, and they definitely did.
It was a strong start in spite of its flaws, and its flaws could have gone WAY worse than they did.

You've never TOed a tournament have you

Also as someone who was running Pools at EVO, DMS was doing his best to balance getting good matches on stream & trying to get people who wanted that experience of playing on stream.

Could a better job have been done?

I speak truth, no lie
I don't think it was the issue.Did we need all those developpers on stream? Why did Hayatei not have 1 match streamed all the way from pool to top 8 the one who was in charge of that should be put on blast.
Dude yesss. I literally only see hayatai in top 8's
