Question - Hollywood Instant Air Guns?

What is the purpose of instant air gunning as opposed to just gunning?

Where there is smoke, there is cancer.
It's faster than the regular gunshot and stops people from jumping forward (or at least makes it harder) to avoid the gunshot whilst advancing towards you. It just gives Cassie more space to control outside of B1 range. It also has multiple hits so if somebody tries to do a forward advancing armoured move then it can break that armour.

Everything Scot said plus you keep your opponent on check so he can't run in, dash in, jump in. Forces them to barely walk in little by little, which opens up your run in throw option.

iaGuns are even better at stopping KungJins neutral jumps and Laos, Kenshis and Sonyas and the like back jumps. Basically when your opponent gets in the air for no reason and out of reach for your usual AAs, you iaGun them and get a knockdown.
Yeah for sure, and F/T's NJP too. Althought with some of the changes to XL (or maybe even earlier) I'm sure they made it easier to get a full punish on whiffed and/or blocked NJP's (on the way up).

If you master this move Cassie is top 3.
But if you keep fucking up you get outzoned by Johnny and Hollywood looks like bottom 10 :DOGE
Well, they don't generally. But they can hit crouch blocking Kotal's fat ass if done low enough.
It is a Kotal's hitbox specific problem. They nerf iagun so they can't hit duck blocking but they forgot that Kotal ducking feels like Mileena standing.
But the 3rd hit of ex iagun hits mid. It's the only thing that hits mid about this move (think about it, normal and ex ground gun all hit high)

its faster, multiple hits, good space control, helps in a lot of mu's. have to get them low though so practice it a lot. if not it just defeats the purpose and you get fucked for doing it.
 
Weird how some characters have easier time with instants tbh. They all should be the same. I find Cassie's instant air guns to be annoying to input rather then say, Kitanas instant fans, Mileenas instant sies, and tanya instant overhead/low blade dive all of which are very easy to perform. I don't play kitana or much mileena but I just messed around for fun trying everybody's instant airs. I would say cassies iag is probably the hardest in the game to do, Luis kangs instant fb isn't easy either though. But if u get these iags down, it makes alot of matches drastically easier.

Also noticed myself, tho i already did at release day for Cassie being my first main back then. :)
