Knowledge is power
Hello everyone! I'm STB Dragon, a 17 year old fighting game player. You might not know me but I just wanted to share with you my adventure at Summer Jam. The biggest thing that I was surprised about going here was how nice and inviting everyone was. I expected a lot of the top players to not even want to talk to someone like me who they don't know much about, but I was shocked that they wanted to hang out with me/play some matches etc.
First it started off with me playing some casuals. I got some games in with honeybee who I admire as a player and as a person, it's even crazier to have to fight that d'vorah than just watching it on stream, he for sure warmed me up (more then that) for my upcoming games. My first match against yomi glass sword was streamed, I was so nervous but I pulled through. I looked back and honeybee gave me a thumbs up. At this point I just had a kreygasm, it sounds funny but it was just such a good feeling having someone like that watch my game and is happy that I won.
I got through pools quite easily except for @SonicFox5000 who I faced in winners finals, he mopped me up (or as he would say mawheeeeppeddd) and made me look like I didn't even know how to play the game. I got out of pools through losers which I was extremely happy about. Now top 32 I faced someone called @WhoIsYams , a quan chi player but I beat him, it was super close but I did it. Next up was @HoneyBee now this match I was super scared about and I thought it was over before it even began. This match was off stream so I was not as nervous (I was still shaking) but I pulled through a 2-0 against such a big name like that I was so shocked it just all seemed so surreal, I couldn't believe that I beat honeybee, a guy who got 3rd place at EVO! The dude's an amazing player and such a nice guy I would love to play him again sometime. During my top 16 match I played @KevoDaMaN . Darth Arma was helping me during this whole match and yelling/hyping me up while I was playing. It was so cool having someone like him wanting me to win and helping me out through it. I felt like I knew him for a long time while he was doing that it was just such a weird connection and a good feeling while I was playing. Kevo used Kitana against me and it was super close but I chocked at the end and lost the match. I now realize that I lost to two kitana's which is ironic, but I still accomplished everything I wanted to and more at my first tournament .
After the tournament, yomi glass sword wanted a $20 money match (lol) so I accepted and beat him again 5-3. I got some games in with @cR Biohazard as well, we money matched too for $5 dollars just for fun, it was super intense but I came out on top 5-4, I think it came down to the last round! His ferra torr is godlike, I was amazed that someone could play that character so well. He's a super nice guy as well and he was there rooting for me in all the games I played (except against honeybee ). I also met a guy called illusions who I've played online before, he plays a beast warlock quan and sun god kotal kahn. We also money matched and I beat his sun god kotal kahn but then he asked for a rematch and used warlock quan and wrecked me... rip money. I wasn't aware that warlock zoning was that good especially with that portal kick. He impressed me a lot.
I then went to some hotel rooms to play some casuals and @DarthArma @KDZ @Kitana Prime @YOMI RM JagoBlake @YOMI DJT @YOMI REO @YOMI SLAYER @YOMI MITYEAP @michaelangelo were all there. Such a cool gang and all great players at the game, I leveled up a lot just playing them. We also played some test your luck money matches for $1 which was hilarious and a good way to just have some fun and lose money if you played against Darth Arma . Also DJT is literally the funniest dude on the planet I couldn't stop laughing at all the funny stuff he says. I was also talking to slayer a lot he was saying how it's so cool that I placed top 16 at my first major and that it does so much for the community to see new players and new talent show up. He was so nice, again I just didn't expect all this from all these big names.
All in all I had so much fun and met so many cool guys and gals there from not just MKX but from different games too and I did WAYYYY better then I could have ever dream of. Now that I went to this I literally want to go to every single major there is! I hope I do again someday because that was amazing.
Huge shoutouts to Biohazard, Honeybee, Illusions, Darth Arma, and all my STB clan members who supported me and watched me throughout all/most of my games @STB BroZki @STB CoRzz @STB gr8one06 @STB Hellbringer @STB Sgt Reed @STB Shujinkydink @imblackjames @Aqueous_Echo @Kompetitor and @Immortal Kombat . Also shoutouts to @Pig Of The Hut for giving me confidence by predicting that I would make it out of pools and rooting for me on stream . And last one goes to @Tom Brady for giving me a shoutout on stream and actually giving me props while I was playing, you're a cool dude and I can't believe your 38! You look like your 22! I hope to play you sometime my man.
Thank you all for reading this extremely long post. I just had to share my amazing experience with all of you guys and I want to encourage everyone and anyone to these tournaments, you will have a blast you wont want to leave. I hope to see you all there sometime .
