Question - Cryomancer sub zero online help

I was wondering what your "normal" starter is and how you deal with very aggressive rush down players. I play cryomamcer variation and do fairly well unless lag is dropping all my strings.

Do you use b1,2 into iceball often?

I normally go for a freeze into f1,2,2 f4,2,grab etc. ex hammer into cold blood.

I have a really hard time catching cold blood after b2 except the corner of course.

Thanks and have a good week.

U have to delay your f42 after the run , if u do it too soon the opponent will be to high in the air for the 2 and the throw to connect. Basically jus run a little further than u think you need too

I would not advise to use iceball in cryomancer. db2 better for combo launch. Also i use "rushdown" gameplay in response

Blocking is always an option dealing with rush down characters. Turn the tides by looking for the jump in and low profiling with slide or anti air with Cryos great d2. I personally look for the eventual njp and use ex hammer to absorb the first hit and trip guard the landing (am I using that term right?).

I also use B12 xx ice ball pretty frequently. B12 is a natural frame trap after hitting with d4 and you can hit confirm it (leads to mix up mind games once your opponent learns to respect it). Your combo post freeze should be jip, b2, run f42 1+3 if you want max damage, jip, 242, run 1, f42 1+3 for screen push or jip b12/ f12, into standing reset.

You absolutely should use ice ball in Cryomancer. There's a meta with this character no one talks about, but people complain about (and it is a serious issue, but you can curb it to a point).

Cryomancer is meter hungry, and doesn't have a great way to build bars. So, how you mitigate this is to avoid using ex hammer/ ex freeze UNLESS the opponent does not have the option to break. I'm not saying never use the ex hammer, just to be mindful that an opponent breaking after you use meter leaves you a little worse off than if you opted not to. This variation does similar damage with/ without meter and can play a strong and rewarding poke game with d4 and f12 into surprising mix ups(although b33 is less of a threat as a starter if you're unwilling to use hammer).

If you're opponent doesn't break, you'll have an abundance of meter for yourself. Aim to push to the corner, but always end with cold blooded. Keep in mind that b2, run b12 xx x-ray is 47% and closes out matches in a hurry.

Oh how i wish this were true

EDIT: dont not use iceball. you have this tool for a reason, and you dont want to burn all your meter for just a bnb :p save the ex Hammer for when you can kill with the extra damage - and your opponent cant break it :) make them waste their meter on your meterless bnb's, trust me and Ree, it'll win you more games than you think :)

D4->F2 = unblockable. Ice Clone = unpunishable.
My Cryo meterless BnB is B12~Ice Ball, step back, JIP 242, run, F42(1+3). In the corner you can replace run with NJP, JIK.

Try mixing it up with your slide and ice hammer. D2 is a fantastic anti air.

generally i never use freeze linked onto B12 unless i can hit confirm it! lag limits this greatly, i use grandmaster so what do i know!

Is OS b12 xx ice ball not a thing? There's a list of all SZ's option selects around these forums somewhere...

Cryomancer - attack variation
Crandmaster - defense
Unbreakble - anti rushdowm
Also may rushdown in response in all variations
I see sub zero as basically the story of the goldilocks and the three bears.

Cryomancer - Too Cold (not enough defense)
Unbreakable - Too Hot (as in hot steaming shit)
Grandmaster - Juuuust Right.

;)

Thanks for the answers, I just need to practice applying more pressure instead of playing so defensively. I saw a cool start from another sub, he does back or neutral jump into air hammer. Seems like a solid idea.

Even online I'm fine hitconfirming B12, this isn't bragging or anything this is one everyone should be capable of I think

All b12 iceballs should be done with an option Select
As well as b33 iceball on females and in the corner with everyone
It's too easy to not do it

Yea a lot of ppl drop the guard on b12 after te first hit I'm guessing because the think it's a poke , a lot of ppl do it in the corner with b33 iceball cuz they think it's a single d3 and they try to poke back

Without option selecting b12, you're leaving damage on the table if your opponent screws up. There's really no reason not to option select where you can.
not if you hit confirm

If you see it's blocked... don't ice blast. If you see it hits, ice blast. haha

where's the damage being left?

Maybe it's better illustrated in game. Have a friend control player 2 and have them block b12 repeatedly. Then tell them to randomly let the 2nd hit connect and tell me how often you can hit confirm into ice ball.

On a hunch, I'm going to say you can't hit confirm off this second hit. Now you might be thinking, "Why would they ever stop blocking?" The answer is because people make mistakes. This is better illustrated with b33 xx ex ice blast (a lot of players know b33 hits twice, but a lot of SZ's Only throw out one on b3 occasion, then continue pressure afterwards). Point being the responsibility is placed fully on your opponent to block instead of partly on the SZ player to hit confirm. Every once in a while, you'll be rewarded. Otherwise, that occasional damage is left on the table.

Netplay or offline, these option selects are objectively better than hit confirming. There's no reason not to learn OS, besides laziness.

What me and ree are saying is a lot of time they block the first hit but not the second , if u hit confirm the first hit and don't do the ice ball then you lost a combo opportunity , ppl make mistakes and option selects let you capitalize on that where hit confirming doesnt
