Once the bracket was reset, couldn't sonic have switched as well? It's a new best of 5, so if foxy goes tempest, sonic goes kitana, right? And that ends with sonic winning game 5 assuming each round goes to the counter pick.

Thats just the way the meta is playing out right now. SonicFoxs kitana was the opposite of that though and is proof that there may be more than one way to play the game if your footsies are good enough.

LBSH, no one was still playing that game competitively at that point. It was basically, "Who can put enough time in a side game to come out on top". I doubt SF would be able to beat a 2012 Reo who was only playing MK9.

This kind of assumptions don't mean anything, EVO 2014 had a big tournament for MK9 with almost every top player present, and Sonic Fox was victorious. What is the purpose of comparing him to 2012 REO? lol
Saying that he was the only one who still practiced in MK9 is just a lie

Ugh. REO moved into a complex to just play MKX. He's literally sleeping In a single room of bunks like a fresh enlistee in the army just to play this game. And Sonic is still the best. Jesus fucking Christ, the lengths people will go to not just give props to the best at a given game.

Like all of YOMI exists to combat sonicfox and he still wins. Stop making excuses and just acknowledge you're watching one of the best in what may not even be his prime. I hope Sonic wins EVO 2016 SFV grand finals with some bullshit character just to see the salt that pours forth and sucks up what little water Nevada has left.

I really enjoyed the entire tournament. Top 32 and top 8 were outstanding imo. Sonic Fox just is a beast...period.

I was incredibly impressed by everyone but special shouts to F0xy grandpa, Honeybee and Milkly for some hella entertaining play.

I was watching a YOMI feed where DJT was dominating everyone using Jax. His angry play-style and Jax just seemed such a fit. His skill with him blew my mind. I know Kung Lao is a beast, but I can't help wondering what DJT could have done with Jax in that top 8.

I watched that MK9 side tournament at EVO in 2014. The thing that stood out to me from Sonic was his display of fundamentals -- the poking and counterpoking, and the footsies. Regardless of what you want to say about who was and wasn't playing the game at that time (and PL was still playing), when I saw the matches I realized he'd morphed over the last couple years from a young, hyper-aggressive mixup dominated player to a mature fighting game player with fundamentals on par with anybody else.

It took another year to be able to prove that yet again vs. the former MK cast, but now here we are.

I have no doubts about what would have happened if everyone had continued to play MK9 -- but it no longer matters, because we have MKX. Now, it's time for everyone else to adapt to him :)

It was the least exciting top 8 because of the huge amounts of 3-0.
But I didn't watch the tekken 7 or sm4sh ones.

Nah Marvel was about the same, except the 3-0 was in grand finals too lol.

It doesnt matter because no top 8 in the history of top 8s comes close to the SF one.

TYM needs to accept change and get on with the times. It wouldn't shock me one bit if REO, PL or whoever won the next major, but it's time to accept that Sonic Fox is a (significantly) better fighting game player than they are. I don't know why many are so resistant to accept that.

PS: I mean this on average. It doesn't mean that if they play against each other in a given set, REO or PL can't beat SF (REO already has). But on average, on a tournament to tournament basis, the discrepancy in results is way too huge to ignore.
