So what you just said was it's not about picking the better variation, but it's about picking the better variation. Demo Sonya is probably just worse, and he's probably aware of that, but he just likes playing her.
Actually no, that's not what I said.
What I said is more along the lines, even if I can see a particular variation is better overall, it's usually pretty easy to spot how a technically "worse" variation has at least one tool that's really handy and as such is worth using. From just watching, and not knowing the ins and outs of the character, it seemed to me that demo Sonya was giving up an awful lot and not getting much in return.
Zoidberg747 seems to have more concrete information on the matter but as a spectator, I haven't really seen the advantages he mentioned come into play, while I have seen people simply take people to 50/50 town all day with military stance.
