Idea on how to let the EU Tournament scene grow

Hi there guys!

I've spoken to some of the EU guys at the MK cup finals in Paris and had an idea, on how to let the EU community grow

As we all know, Europe has a lot of very strong players, the only problem is, that it lacks tournaments!
my idea would be the following:

every 4 months, the corresponding country hosts a tournament and people from other countries travel there to compete

example:
20th of july => Tournament in vienna
all the french, greek, uk, belgium, italian guys, try to make it out to Vienna

20th of november => tournament in the UK
all the guys from the other countries try to make it out to the UK

20th of march => tournament in france
...........

20th of july => tournament in greece
and so on

ofc, this doesn't have to be every 4 months, but i would love seeing people travel to other countries, to compete, have fun, drink, party, and relax to just get to know each other

tell me what you think about the idea

i'm open for any ideas and input

let's let that community grow!

I think this would be a great idea, every 4 months is quite a good schedule in my opinion. I imagine the only issue would be organisation of a venue as if everyone commits we could actually turn out some pretty big numbers. I'll tag some of the UK that were left out.

All being well I would be up for this for sure, travel inside the EU is much cheaper than going across the pond too :D

The anticipation is killing me
This would be great. I was thinking about travelling to tournaments in Europe for this game. If something like this can be organized that would be amazing

depending on how many people are willing to join, i will try to organize something bigger here in vienna
we do have our local dojo, which can house ~30-40 people
i there are more people, i would have to rent some bigger venue

Sounds like a nice idea st9rm.
Two main things to overcome are the organization of the (sub-)events and venue (getting costs covered) and secondly the logistics.
If people want to help grow the EU scene with tournaments but don't want to or can't make it to a certain event, they could still donate to the venue fund/pot.

Tagging some more people who might be interested.

I want Kronika to step on my face
It sounds good man.

TBH I don't know how often I can travel due to finances but this does sound tempting especially if the tournament was big and players from multiple countries entered.

I'd love that. travel to some EU country to get my ass kicked my fav UK twins? sign me in all day!!!

also what he said exactly, yes. same here.

one more thing: I know 2 groups that organize tournaments here in Italy and I belive would be happy to do stuff in a bigger way. if this idea becomes a thing, I'd gladly ask!

Finish-him is doing some tournaments like every 2 months in/with Warner's studio. Now I gotta know how many we can be to go to their local. ^^

great idea of a community based tournament series
not to mention that MK X isn't allowed to be promoted or sold in certain countries (Germany for example)
also a good alternative to the ESL Cup which is Xbone only

i will gladly help you organizing in Vienna ofc ;)

Excellent idea which I fully support! Every 4 months also seems to be a fitting intervall. Do you plan to make these Mortal Kombat only tournaments or do you plan to include other fighting games aswell?

But you can hold a mortal kombat tournament in germany, or does that count as promotion? And if yes are you sure it's even illegal to promote?

Due to its geographic location Belgium could be an ideal host for a combined German/Dutch/Luxembourg/Belgian tournament. It also ensures no German laws have to be broken by hosting an event there.

Needless to say I'm in, though I probably can't travel more than two times a year. If we make this happen then it might be smart to start with UK - I think I heard @PND_Ketchup or @PND_Mustard talking about this http://www.vsfighting.com/ event that takes place in about a month, and if I remember correct some greek guys have already shown some interest. Also I think two times a year would be enough; we should focus on bringing together as much players as possible.

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
If there were to be a tournament on TV, be it network or cable, and if it were done right - that would be the beginning of tournaments developing enough of a revenue stream for promoters to stop asking whether its viable to have one here or there - and start asking how they can secure a venue that could maximize their profits.
