YOMI and Hype...

Pig Of The Hut

i mean i was playing with him before he went down to yomi and he was only at a handful of sessions. i think that can reflect how much he was playing at the time.

also im referring to "that much" as the 10-12 hours you originally referred to. i dont know many people who can go days in a row playing video games for almost all of their waking hours without going insane after at least 5 days.
First week I seem to remember numerous 24 hour streams w Tom

Practice sessions w jr, Locals, two weeks testing and now moved to YOMI because he wants to win

Is that an actual game?

The Human Instrumentality Project continues as humankind attempts to complete its existence. Coolwhip continues to struggle with the impact of his personal existence, and eventually views a world (resembling a light-hearted, comedic high school setting) in which he is not an Evangelion pilot. Coolwhip, now understanding that his existence is not fixed, destroys the constrictive shell which he had formed around himself. He is met by all of the other characters from the series, who applaud and congratulate him, and, in response, he thanks them all.

We're not at that level because none of us play each other anymore, and no one ever gets casuals at the break. Also because we aren't Mit djt mike slayer fk. And yeah it's not coincidence that they always get top placing even during mk9 and Injustice.
Did they? Other than some short time periods for a couple of them I don't remember them always being the ones to beat. Not that they're not good, but there's many others who I feel could be in the same position right now if they had the same opportunity.

For starters, MIT and DJT can travel a lot more now. Half of them didn't like Injustice so they didn't waste time on it. And yeah how many Evo medals do they have? Of course they were always the ones to beat lawl. Lbsh no one but them is actually traveling.

no? one of them had like 2 top 8s ever before mkx, one of them i don't think has placed since 2011. are they just that much better at fighting games than maxter, tyrant, woundcowboy, wafflez, etc that those guys wouldn't be doing as well in the same position?

Fun fact

Only YOMI members w Evo medals in both games:
Djt
MIT
Pig
Reo

YOMI members w One Evo medal:
King (mk9, he did not place in inj)
Slayer (inj)

No Evo medals yet:
Saltface
Michaelangelo
Trepound
Smar
Xeno
Blake
Reno
Glass sword
Kush
King jr

Diminion I'm unsure how many

So 10 Evo medals total but I expect between KI and MKx this year 5-6 more will be added

REO Speed Wagon doesnt play, lol. Come on Nitti, the dude tested the game, was in texas the week the game came out to clean house, went to northwest majors, pretty much lived at claudes house for weeks, then after combo breaker went to zoofox's house then they very soon after went to yomi and have stayed there.

A direct quote from one of the Yomi guys when they were chilling at jaxels last week and I proposed that we all go see New York City since most were from out of town (the day you drove them to next level)

"yeah, it would be cool to not grind all day for once"

You guys need to start being more like Sonicfox. Instead of debating if Yomi is too godlike to stop, just train your ass off go to a tournament and beat all of us! lol that's what I would do anyways if I wasn't Yomi
This This This This, and THIS.

Make it a goal of yours to go to a Major and beat one YOMI member, that is my goal for CEO.

I think YOMI is great for the scene, they have helped the game develop so much to where it is right now.

The only thing is on the weeklies I wish the commentary was more "professional."

Falls down too much
That analogy is highly flawed. Greg Jackson never had a sort of "monopoly" (not the right word, but bear with me) over elite fighters. When you consider the various Brazilian fighters, Xtreme Couture at one point, AKA, ATT, Alpha Male, etc... there were numerous elite camps. Jackson just happened to be considered the best by the consensus, but that was debatable.

But I agree that ultimately, it boils down to the individuals, but I wouldn't say it's "not about the team," because to an extent there is. For the same reason you hear people chanting "GGA! GGA!" when Dizzy beat Sonic Fox...
I agree, completely flawed analogy, but it's a different culture too. Maybe the YOMI hype is lower on average now, but what happens when a YOMI member holds back a pocket character or something and bodies the rest of the crew at a major with it because they didn't train it up? That hype will be through the roof. That's the endgame here, because in the end only one person can hold that Evo trophy.

Here are three big problems to me:

1. Because the YOMI guys are considered the elite of the elite and they get to travel to so many tournaments, any tournament without them at it is going to be immediately considered not high level. We've seen this before, "But VSM isn't there! Does it really count?". Obviously this is BS, but people see it that way when they come to expect these top players to be at every tournament. This might be overall how YOMI hurts the scene more than anything else.

I mean hell, let's just say the YOMI bus breaks down very last minute and none of them can make it to EVO. Imagine that situation in your head. Now how viable of a tournament would EVO be to you? Would you still value it over Combo Breaker? CEO? Whether you admit it or not, I'm sure that you all would at least question it, and that's EVO... now imagine any tournament smaller than EVO... they would mean nothing.

2. Because the YOMI guys can travel to EVERY major, even if players step up to the plate and do better than YOMI players, they aren't going to get nearly as much recognition as them, unless they can do it at a good amount of majors.

I mean for example, look at Red Raptor. He placed really high at Combo Breaker, higher than almost all of the YOMI guys, but when people talk about top players, his name is almost never brought up. I swear I am 100% NOT fishing for props here, but I'm a great example too. Last time we saw me at a big major, I beat 2 people who are YOMI now (Slayer and REO), but if you were to ask people for a top 10 players list, I bet a ton of YOMI would both be on over 90% of lists and Red Raptor or I would be on less than 10%. I'm not saying that me or Red Raptor or whoever are better or worse than the YOMI guys right now, but the point is that players getting recognition is near impossible with the amount of exposure that these guys automatically get.

3. YOMI is creating an unrealistic standard for sponsorships in the NRS community. For anywhere even close to what they're offering these players, any other sponsor would ask the players to stream regularly, spread the brand somehow, or at least have a standard for placements which are all very normal things for sponsors. When those sponsors look at the scene and realize that it's impossible to compare to such an overly generous sponsor, they might decide that they can't come close to competing, and sponsor players from other games. Also the fact that literally nobody but Sonicfox can travel and consistently place next to YOMI at a good amount of majors means that no players that can only go to a few majors can get the exposure that might get them a sponsor.

Definitely willing to discuss any of these points.

Oh also I totally agree that YOMI being at every major makes them all feel more like locals from a spectator standpoint. I used to love watching all the majors, but they're pretty boring now, aside from Sonicfox's godlike play.

You've articulated points really well, let me ask you about #2.

Is it true you're not entering Evo? Because I would advise to not pass it up because that would raise questions about your placement at NWM now that everyone knows what's going in the game where as
NWM MKx was one week old.

If u go to Evo and place well which you could not a single person could question you

Who said I wasn't going to EVO? I should be going. Need to save up a bit more money, but I'm under the belief that I'll be going.

Also like I said, the point isn't about me I just thought I was a good example to drive the point home. I hope I do well at EVO, but I have zero idea where the comparative levels of my scene compared to the rest of the world's scenes are at the moment. I'll definitely be going my hardest though.

Actually, second thought, your question here helps to prove my point. I (again seriously not trying to prop fish or brag) won a major and placed top 8 at another one, but I still have only one chance to place really well at the hardest tournament in the world for people to not question whether I'm good or not.

YOMI players could go out in pools at EVO and still be considered top 10 because they've gotten so many chances already.
