I loved what we saw of Salty Kang. I need more.

But my favourite personality might be Kotal's. I loved it when Kung Jin said some weird shit to him about how wide the ocean was or something, and he was like "well, at least SOMEONE talks sense around here."

Johnny Cage, never seen a character grow so greatly like he did.

Liu Kang didn't evolve his personality at all, he kept that stupid arrogance altitude he was killed with when he fought raiden, the only thing going for him now is that NRS totally made him look like Bruce Lee, not only in voice, and more so on gestures, even the smallest ones. And has the Bruce Lee's face as well.

Mileena, because as you stated, she's no longer there as just a single gimmick.

But gonna say Scorpion wins this one. Went from having zero personality, to actually being one of the more interesting characters.

I'm kinda hoping that they make mileena almost like; a winter soldier of the next game.
Not the main villain but has been revived by Liu Kang and Kitana to show up and start trouble at the worst of times.

Definitely Mileena. I loved her in MK9, but her new personality and look in MKX is so much better. I love how she's fighting to reclaim her throne as the true empress of Outworld. I wish she would've been in the story more, but she completely dominated every scene she was in. Plus, all of her dialogue is amazing. She kept her teasing nature from MK9 and she also matured greatly.

Part of the reason I main sonya is because I think it's funny to beat people with bland and annoying characters (it increases the salt in my training partners exponentially, lol lots of awesome stories) so Sonya certainly doesn't get my vote. Although I do think she is an improvement in this game.

I loved Mileena's step up from the really tired trope of "Acts like a Scary Little Girl" to someone who actually has drive, ambition and leadership qualities. Once she leaves the story it takes a clear step down in narrative quality.

But my vote went to Johnny, who comes across real well in Story Mode, is genuinely funny and heartwarming, a tireless hero and is surely the most relatable guy on the roster.

I'm really not a fan of the revenant heroes, their evil personalities, or the way they repeatedly got their asses handed to them, and in supah-casual fashion in the later scenes.

This game made me empathize with Mileena.
That is amazing, I think most of us used to hate her and her unmotivated devious shenanigans.
Now, she's a Jane Eyre, a symbol for strong women, in a way.... Well, in the fact that D'vorah, Kotal Khan, and THE AUTHORITY denied her any positive result from all of her years of effort at rebeliion. But she's a hunter in this game, a taker, a go-getter, and to be honest I always found myself cheering her on.

Subzero will be the most developed character for ever. This time, Scorpion joined him. Their interaction is godlike!! Best moment in MK Lore.

Mileena for me, for all the points you listed and also, in the end, how she told Kotal to finish it so she could be with her father. In a flashback she also went on about how she didn't want to ally with her father's killers.

She actually, really seemed to love Shao Khan, and seemed to want the throne not just for power like in the original timeline, but also to honour him.

Her voice acting was also the best in the game.

Such amazing stuff done with one of my favourite characters.

I hope they do. If they can keep brining back Scorpion (a big dumbass in SM imo) and Sub-Zero, they should keep doing it for Mileena.

I voted for Johnny Cage. I like how age has produced maturity for him while still maintaining his cocky, fun, and corny character.

It's Johnny, with a fair amount of ease. He was changed from an unlikeable person to someone who keeps elements of flair while having moments of humanity and vulnerability. Genuinely seemed to love his wife/daughter, and wore a top like he was ashamed of that fucking awful chest tattoo. Oh, and got his jaw broken on Jacqui's behalf too.

I liked Mileena and SZ, but I think people are slightly confusing design improvements and character expansions with improvements. SZ was shown becoming the grandmaster we knew he was in the previous timeline -- we are just shown more of it. Same for Mileena, with her playful, flirtatious mannerisms and bad taste in bedside partners -- all that is expanded on, with the only really novel element being her loyalty to Shao Kahn. Both were expanded on, but an improved personality requires some evolvement at least for me, so Johnny over them.

Scorpion evolved too. There seems to be a constantly expanding boundary on how much of a penis he can be in story mode with each new game.
