Do you hope your character(s) of choice is/are top tier?

unfortunately, my dear eldriken, i sometimes do catch myself wishing I played super low tier. The expectation of always being th best is a heavy burden to shoulder, but i've made peace with these demons as i understand there's no such thing as low tier when im behind the wheel. i will never know what it feels like to be a care-free scrub such as yourselves, non-evo online champs. and you'll hate me for it. i've learned this. i've come to terms with this and have to accept what i am, the best.

being shazzyam is suffering u guise
Reading your posts always brings a smile to my face, Shazzy. Never change, buddy. Never change.

I'd be fine if my character/variation turned out to be top-tier matieral. If not, thats cool too. If they fit my playstyle ill play them regardless of where they are on the list. Because in the end i know ill play at my best with them.
Jacqui looks scary. I believe she'll be a beast in this game.

so where is this "Tierlist everyone is talking about or what are the top players saying which characters has great potential as the current version of the game is now ?

With variations however, I feel like "who's top tier?" is going to be an irrelevant argument but rather players should focus on learning your match up's. Doing well is going to be determined by how much time you guys put in the lab and of course there's the obvious working on your fundamentals; footsies/spacing, adapting/conditioning.

Does tier caliber really matter in MKX?

I mean with the variations and play styles, I feel like any character/variation can be great!

Hell, a Jax character beat out Raiden (ESL Fatal 8 tourney), which I thought on the surface was a mismatch for Jax.

Honestly, any player can be great if you know how to use them carefully, punish your opponents attack well and make good reads.

I was thinking about this the earlier after seeing that pre-release tier list and saw that Kitana was top tier. I know said thread isn't accurate whatsoever, but it got me thinking, "Do I want Kitana to be top tier?"

My answer: Yes and no.

I'd like her to be top tier 'cause I've never used a top tier character in a game before and having that type of "power" would be great. It's not an "I Win" button or anything, but it would definitely help with winning.

However, I wouldn't like her to be top tier because she could get overly "normalized" and become super shitty. There's also having to listen to people constantly bitch and moan that people only win with a character because they're top tier, broken, etc (SHADES OF SONIC FOX LOLLL).

What about the rest of you? Do you hope that the character(s) you intend to use is/are top tier? Why or why not?
I just wanna see you fall on your side when the doomsday training wheels fall off.

I just want reptile and kitana to be high tier but balanced. 5-5, 6-4 most of the kast and i am fine, but maybe like 4-6 for 3 characters.

I've told you time and time again that you're severely underestimating me, Pecka. You're going to find out the hard way if you decide to play on PS4.

Just because I played Doomsday and was good with him doesn't mean I'm unable to do good in a completely different fighting game.

I am loyal to kenshi no matter what, but chances are he will be top tier like in MK9 so i am happy i guess, although i would still main him even if he was bottom tier and had all 1-9 match ups because kenshi is fucking awesome

We will still see a tier list. It will just name a character and variation. That's going to be the only real comprehensive way to have a tier list done for each character having 3 variations and being distinct enough to warrant it. Of course any character can beat any character, But tier lists show people which character (character/variation) has the most tools and will be the easiest to win with. Some people like to "tier whore" or whatever so to each their own.

On to the OP question. I don't really care either way if my character goes top tier, mid tier, etc. I've played top tier chars and bottom tier chars across various games. It doesn't make much of a difference to me as long as i still enjoy playing the game and character.

Having anything against players of higher tiered characters is nuts.
It's an undertaking to pick Yosuke in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax-- expecations are extremely high!
I'm extremely tired of low tier option selects.
"There's no way I truly lost if my character is worse"
matched with "I beat him with my garbage character, I'm the real champion"
is trash ideology.
pick who you like, but don't hide behind anything, I say!
The game is fair by virtue of the fact that there's a character select screen.

I'm a loyalist at heart so whether Mileena ends up being the absolute best or the absolute worst she will be my main throughout the life of MKX

I have a feeling The Brohemoth (Kotal) is gonna be mid-tier at best, which I'm cool with because I feel more accomplished when playing a character that isn't used by everyone for wins :DOGE

In all seriousness though, I've said pretty much the same thing in a thread that was (I think) similar to this one a while ago, but I tend to gravitate towards mid-low tier characters anyway. The highest tier character I ever really used consistently was Bane in I:GAU, and I'm still not really sure where he sits on that tier list.

Besides, if Kotal isn't top tier, maybe my pocket/secondaries Ermac, Jason or Kitana will be for Kotal's bad match-ups.

ppl who stick to "Top Tiers" b/c if they damn well use one that is not they think they are gonna lose and they suck as a player. And that when the word "ADAPT" to any situation comes to mind.

Its Game Over, Man
I'd be fine with it, but if it doesn't happen, I'll work around it.

Cage could be absolute shit-tier and I'd still main him since he's been my go-to guy since MK1.

Plus on block.
No one cares about the 500 Kung Laos. When a surprise Shinnok kicks your ass, you're impressed. Let's put it that way.
Cor-fucking-rect.

Nothing more satisfying than beating the cheesy ass, usually braindead top tier character with nothing but pure skill and whatever dirt you can dig up for your characters.

That underdog feeling is so... so good.

Blowing people up in MK9 with Sektor and Baraka, and ESPECIALLY in Injustice with Lex "This character is in the game?" Luthor brought me a priceless level of satisfaction.
