Do you hope your character(s) of choice is/are top tier?

I was thinking about this the earlier after seeing that pre-release tier list and saw that Kitana was top tier. I know said thread isn't accurate whatsoever, but it got me thinking, "Do I want Kitana to be top tier?"

My answer: Yes and no.

I'd like her to be top tier 'cause I've never used a top tier character in a game before and having that type of "power" would be great. It's not an "I Win" button or anything, but it would definitely help with winning.

However, I wouldn't like her to be top tier because she could get overly "normalized" and become super shitty. There's also having to listen to people constantly bitch and moan that people only win with a character because they're top tier, broken, etc (SHADES OF SONIC FOX LOLLL).

What about the rest of you? Do you hope that the character(s) you intend to use is/are top tier? Why or why not?

Does tier caliber really matter in MKX?

I mean with the variations and play styles, I feel like any character/variation can be great!

Hell, a Jax character beat out Raiden (ESL Fatal 8 tourney), which I thought on the surface was a mismatch for Jax.

Honestly, any player can be great if you know how to use them carefully, punish your opponents attack well and make good reads.

If he/she is/isn't then I don't mind either way. I like my characters for their playstyle and I'll use that to my advantage. If I can win with a supposedly lower tier character over a pub-stomper, that'll just inflate the ego some more.

I want my character to be the absolute worst the game has to offer and then..I wanna win anyways.

I'd wouldn't want top tier because of potential nerfs and people downplaying me but upper mid to lower top would be nice but i'm really not worried about that right now
Oh, me either. Tier lists really aren't any concern of mine right now because it will likely take quite a few months before an even somewhat reasonably accurate tier list can be made.

I'm just curious how people feel about the whole thing. Y'know, whether they really care or not.

Yes, I want Quan to be as broken as humanly possibly because I love him. If he sucks I'll just pocket a top tier broken piece of shit for his bad matchups. Shameless tier whoring in MKX for me.

Since you're such a Quan fan, I'm hoping today wasn't anything close to what his overall potential is. I mean, I KNOW it's not, but let's just hope that him getting knocked down in any variation doesn't wind up completely damning him.

This is coming from someone who mained as Kabal from Mortal Kombat 9. I know why you are half skeptical about being a top tier character and its good that you are thinking twice about it. Having that power will do very weird things with your ego. Having that top tier character can spoil you a bit.

I can relate to what your concern is and the cons of being an S-Tier character. I do have to listen to people complain and bitch about my character. I play Lucario from Project M (not Sm4sh) and I have to constantly listen to my friend complain about him. Lucario is not that high of a top tier character, he has weaknesses along with some odd strengths that make him shine. If you play an S-Tier or A-Tier character, always keep in mind that people will tend to complain than to adapt (but I know you know that already).

Goro's probably not going to be top tier....but that's ok. I've been maining low tier characters my whole life so if he ends up being high tier I still don't care.
Dude, #PunchWalk makes him automatically top tier as far as hype goes. =D At least you have that, right?!

They mentioned that Quan has no wakeups, so he pretty much gets fucked over on knockdown. I'm scared, honestly. That matchup looks like garbage for Quan since Erron's knockdown game is ridiculous especially in the corner.

Not top tier does not = shit. I personally didn't like any of the top tier characters in Injustice, and I'm again just playing who I like in MKX. If they end up top tier, so be it. I prefer mid-upper mid tier tho cuz I like to work for my wins.
