What's new

Do you think some fans act spoiled from the earlier NRS streams?

So I've been reading a lot of the MKX speculation, discussion topics etc. One thing I've noticed is while majority are grateful for the streams(I know I am) I've also noticed some people seem spoiled or act entitled to stuff.

Like people saying "want goro damn it, want to see goro why no Goro NRS?!?" We know he's in the game, just be patient lol. or "Damn, such a long hiatus or drought without any info" like what? Maybe it's just me but seems we've been getting a ton of info lately between story trailer, brutalities, leaks, confimations, comic book reveals etc

At any rate, I feel like this is like the Yankee fans during the late 90's they just were winning year after year, well NRS has been on a roll with their games and I think some MK fans are just acting a little spoiled or want too much IMO now.

Not Everyone, just some people...I remember when the last stream happened, it was uploaded to their youtube page, I saw a girl post "no jade, no buy fuck NRS" like really? lol I think people like this ignore the fact that Kitana has an entire variation dedicated to Jade...

Anyway, share your thoughts? What do you guys think? Think the NRS giving us tons of info, streams etc is spoiling some fans or that some people just want too much whenever NRS gives us a taste, they want the whole pie?

I for one am grateful and pleased as a lifelong MK fan as long as anyone, they really don't have to show us streams but make the time to. I think this is very nice gesture and other developers should take notes as it brings good relationships between the developers and fans.

The point is the question ^. I don't see how normal news is spoiling that's something everyone does, but what not everyone does is stream months before release...I mean lets face it, MK never did that before, SF don't do it, Smash, Tekken etc.

Thats why they call this thing bloodsport, kid.
They haven't given us info in what feels like a lifetime. Stuff we scrounged up or got leaked accidentally doesn't count. An amazon pic of mileena who we've known about for weeks doesn't satisfy me. I am spoiled, I need to be drenched in info. I get that they were waiting til this fri the 13th so they could reveal Jason, so that makes sense. But the line of "these things take time to setup." Is complete bull. Trailers yes, but just 2 guys playing casual matchups and talking about variations etc for 40 min takes about 5 min to set up and no fancy trailer needed.

Really they are doing fine and we will all know everything in due time. But the one thing I will maintain is that they should have had a Goro trailer by now. For no other reason than to help push preorder sales.

While I don't particularly like the way NRS has been sharing information about their product, I can understand why people may get frustrated. I will say that individuals who look down upon and criticize others who are unsatisfied with NRS/WB's marketing are even more annoying to me.

Regardless, I think that transparency instills confidence in the consumer base, and when companies keep details close to the chest as NRS has, people start getting worried and frustrated, and they express their concern (whatever it may be) with angry and occasionally venomous online posts on forums or twitter. It's easy to get worried about the quality of a product when you know so little about it so close to release, especially when it's something you're passionate about. For many this isn't an issue, but I do get why a lot of users act the way they do, and I think a little understanding from everyone goes a long way.

they were complaining even before the streams, the streams have nothing to with that.
True but it seems to have increased since then. Once Goro was revealed, every week been seeing tons of fans cry over "Goro, Goro, give me Goro don't care about anything else" lol

the passive aggressive callout is still the best callout.
lol I'm just making a point man but I do try my best to be polite:)

@ Montanx: well would have to disagree, I think @Juggs said it best in some other topic(forget which one) we've been getting tons of info every other week, leaks are still info regardless and between the comics and teaser trailers(which does reveal story stuff if you've followed them and first look at characters before game ie Erron Black, Mileena, Cage etc) and brutalities and story trailer? How is that not huge reveals? lol You're not going to get the whole game, and I don't blame them. There has to be SOME suspense. I think most MK fans should be happy personally, but I know that would only happen in a perfect world. So that ain't happening.

Look at it from NRS point of view for a second, they show us stuff they don't technically have to do with these little streams, they have probably about a billion tweets per week asking various NRS developers questions about characters, story, modes etc they're not going to answer or get to all, just the way it is. The fact that they interact with the fans via streams, tweets and even occasionally post on here when they get a chance is awesome.

We have received a shit ton of info, IDK how anyone could say we haven't received enough info. If the only game you play is MK I can see this being true but if you play other games too, there is no way you can believe this. Look at a game like The Division the only info on that game has been once a year for 3 years at e3.

We'll burn you all—that is your fate!
Yes. They don't have to show us anything. They could show up pictures of characters coming out and that's it. Remember before streams where a thing and we didn't have that luxury. We should be happy NRS cares enough to give us personal streams showing their game. Instead of like 5 trailers and then game comes out. And i agree with what Dink says. I remember having to wait for a Game magazine or a something like E3 to get info on new games.

Essentially the only game I play is mk and I still have absolutely no complaints about how nrs is releasing info. It blows my mind that people actually get upset about this. Like Dink said above, try going back to the days of little bits of info and a screen shot or two in a game magazine, we have it way too good these days

Savagely beating his super-ego with his id...
Yeah there are games that no matter what is shown the second it's over fans ask what are you gonna show me now... And games that show nothing and nobody notices...
I can appreciate the fact that MK is in that first camp but it is frustrating here people say "it's been forever" when it's been 2 weeks or so...
I think if a few weeks or a month is such an insurmountable time period that you flip your shit or start insulting people over it... You really need to find more to do with yourself... I wish time would slow the fuck down for a second though... Lol

See I would agree with this except multiple other Fighting Game companies make sure theirs tons of info about the games out there by two months from release, ESPCIALLY when it comes to online features. NRS has been mum on it & it's obnoxious if you're looking from a purely competitive standpoint. NRS' advertising is good & great for just casual audiences but theirs a ton their doing that's just plain obnoxious for people serious about competing.

Fujin!
Yes, some fans are "spoiled" (or impatient) when it comes to Mortal Kombat X. Not even just about the streams, just about the game in general. It's like some people think they need to reveal something every week (that's not going to happen).

Don't get me wrong, even I don't like how NRS handles some things. Why haven't we seen Goro yet? He's be announced ever since September. We also haven't got any Training mode details, or anything about how good online runs. But still, for the most part, they have been doing okay.

I mean, so far, this year we have gotten tons of reveals/details. Kung Lao, Kitana, Reptile, Ermac, Takeda, Jacqui, Kung Jin, Mileena, and Johnny Cage have all be officially confirmed. We've gotten multiple stage reveals too. We also got some details about the Living Towers, story mode, and other modes that's going to be in the game. Plus the comic is out, that can hold us over. That still isn't everything though, because we got multiple streams as well (heck, we are getting another one two days from now).

Does NRS keep things a secret too much? Yes, with some things, yes. Do they have a lack of announcements? No. We've gotten plenty in just two and half months. Plus, the game will be out in a month so... it isn't like we have to wait a year or anything.

What a day. What a lovely day.
People need to not compare this to Arkham Knight or any other story driven game in a numbered series. You know what you're getting there. You know what it will play like and if Batman is your favorite character, you're already sold. Not to mention that if a game like AK released too much it would spoil the actual story which is a huge selling point for the game.

Fighting games are a different breed. There are several people here who probably don't even have a main yet, and as such, are having a hard time getting excited for the game. They need to see more. We have a general overview of the mechanics, but it'd be nicer to see the game showcased at a higher level every once in a while. If Capcom can get two established tourny players to exhibit SFV on a main stage I really don't see why NRS can't snag 16Bit and Brady (for example) to play a couple of well executed matches. And don't tell me the testers are busy, given that they had time to put together a Konnections video.

There's still just some very basic info we don't know. Will there be lobbies? Will there be a spectator mode for online? They haven't even released any showcase matches/combo videos like they have in the past for MK9 and INJ which does nothing but perpetuate people's wondering and demand for information. Honestly, this entire marketing campaign has been about nothing but the variations, and with only a month to go, people are more than ready to see some other aspects of the game.

That Don't Impress Me Much
I personally am indifferent to goro because I just don't play as the large characters. But I do I like that he is in the game. In regards to people being concerned and wanting to see him is that them not showing him either means he will be nothing more than a novelty and there won't be much to show and/or another concern is that why not show him off to get "filthy casuals" to pre-order the game, etc. That's my guess as to why people are concerned about goro. but honestly...that logic is my concern for the entirety of the game so far. The only really curve ball i feel they have thrown us was the inclusion of kitana and kung lao and making Mileena a major threat storyline-wise, oh and the brief cameos of Rain and Sindel. everything else I feel like has mostly been stuff we saw coming. They have yet to make any major comments on online play except for generic stuff like it's important, it's better, multiple modes, and that's it's there. Also, this faction wars things I just don't feel like they have given us enough reason to care about it.

I mean, I'm not trying to sound entitled or ungrateful. If anything I'm a devoted fan of the franchise and have bought every major game release and spouted an endless supply of my allowance to arcades playing MK2 and MK3 and UMK3 back as a pre-teen and bought all the merchandise and I of course will get this game regardless because i'm sure it will be worth the money, but many like myself want it to have longevity. Injustice IMO sorta died off a bit quickly, or so it seemed. Mk9 seemed to have a huge amount of people online all the time for a good year while Injustice kind of I feel fizzled out before summer's end. So...no...I do not feel NRS has spoiled us. I think the obvious returns of characters like Johnny cage, Sonya, Jax, Kenshi, etc. should probably have been talked about before now because honestly...it's insulting. I mean seriously BIG WOW. we knew these characters were going to be included. everyone called it because it was an easy educated guess from story mode of mk9 and here we are. it's not refreshing. I'm glad people will get their favorites and I hope you enjoy your johnny cage in street clothes doing his shadow kick and nut punch. I will enjoy my remorseful kitana and her shadow kick :D

Tbh yea I mean they're doing all of this out of the goodness of their heart and then giving us the game for free... Dude plz.. We are more than entitled when we each have to pay 70$ and they do it to sell more..
