Sony settlement from 2011 outage (possible freebies incoming)

Before I start, whoever actually sued Sony is the biggest fucking crybaby I've ever seen. XBL goes down? Sure, you pay to use it, be pissed. PSN. Free. "WAAAAHHHHHH, I DIDN'T GET TO PLAY CODMW3 WITH MY CLAN xXx420H1TlErRuLeSxXx" is how I imagine this went (if Black Ops was that year's COD, forgive me).

Having said that, Sony got hit with a class-action lawsuit and they've decided to settle. NOBODY GOT THEIR BANK INFO\ACCOUNTS STOLEN, as far as we know. Good part? Us non-whiners can get some free stuff, including a 3 month Plus membership. If you weren't on PSN for this, you can still get something (details are inside). Nothing is up just yet, judge still has to OK this, but if it does go through, a lot of us can get some freebies.

I dunno, I don't remember actually seeing reports about people getting identities stolen (not like the Target incident). And if you look at what they are going to offer, (a. Every already owns it, or (b. Cheap stuff they probably aren't expecting much more profit from. I could be totally offbase from my bias, but I actually believe them when they said they didn't want to deal with lawyer fees.

Sidenote, same thing happened to Steam about a month later, nobody is suing Valve. Double standards

There was a huge, and I mean HUGE security breach that caused PSN to go down. I was involved and personally received a subscription free of charge for a company that is similar to life lock that protects your identity in the event of theft. So yeah that is why they settled.

Shush, @HellblazerHawkman doesn't know anyone personally that was affected so that means nobody was. It's definitely not because he's a sony fan boi :DOGE.

The funniest conspiracy theory/damage control I remember hearing from this is that it didn't happen to Xbox Live because it's a paid subscription service and the funds are attributed to better security protocol.

I mean... Xbox Live itself is free, so I suppose your information is magically endangered and exposed whenever you're unsubscribed from Live Gold for whatever reason....? :DOGE

But I can see why it did come to this, Sony's (SCE in particular, although Sony as a whole wasn;t exactly the most modest corporation on the planet either) reputation still hadn't fully recovered from their arrogance brainfart circa-2006.

My credit card number was stolen off of xbox live. They did nothing to compensate me. Even gave them an official police report

My condolences. I suppose since (in Microsoft's view) it's a isolated incident there wasn't going to be overwhelming publicity to resolve a compensation unlike the PSN hack though.

Yeah man those were dark times... I remember the outage vividly because I couldn't play my beloved Metal Gear Online for a while... I was so bummed lol.

I also remember getting free games out of the deal on top of my identity theft protection.

Peace Walker has a really underrated MP mode. Not as good, but still the same vibes. I miss sitting in a cardboard box for like 20 minutes to get a stealth kill on someone. Those were the days

I played Peace Walker as well, it's actually really good but my only gripe is the lobby sizes are far too small. 3v3.... :(

And yes the Box kills were fun :) my main game mode was TSNE... I miss holding bitches up and watching their buddies come to the rescue only to get stunned and shanked haha I really really hope the new multiplayer is up to par!

Little foggy, TSNE was Red vs Blus vs Snake, right? Fun as Snake, but would take forever man. I was a TDM guy cause that game let you support and I liked sniping

Naw man TSNE was Team Sneaking, one team has stealth camo and can only use the Mk2 tranquilizer handgun and knives(and support grenades like smoke and chaff), while the other team does not have stealth camo and has access to normal firearms and grenades. Stealth team's objective was to capture GAKO(the target) and return him to their base while the non stealth team had to hunt down and kill the invisibles. SO MUCH FUN :)

Hell yes, I do remember this now! Side note, did you play Ground Zeros? Controls are really good and I'm interested in vehicle interactions. Might be Battlefield+MGS
