Excitement, drama, suspense -- this year's UFGT had it all, from pools all the way through Top 8. Although a number of players were heavily favorited to make Finals day from the start, there was turmoil in the brackets, and several of the key wins were narrowly fought. Although it almost goes without saying now, this tournament and the game both delivered in a major way that will be talked about for some time to come.
The Top 8 started off on a high note as Whiteboi white-knuckled his way through a nailbiter of a match, capitalizing on a coupe of late errors by ForeverKing to win the set by a single literal hit after a mad scramble. Next up, 16 Bit barely seemed to break a sweat as he ran up a 2-0 lead on Perfect Legend. In the final game, with PL going back to DD after having tried Martian Manhunter, 16 bit was a hit away from death and in a giantic hole. But he composed about as masterful of a sequence as we have seen in the entire tournament, making no mistakes as he threaded the needle and somehow edged Carl out for the win.
After HoneyBee quickly disposed of ForeverKing Jr., 16 bit lost a heartbreaker of a match against King Sr. when King counterpicked with Aquaman after being pressed against the wall. Theo quickly rolled through FilipinoMan, brought his Superman out for Whiteboi, and generally looked relaxed and undaunted on his road to Grand Finals. Althought Whiteboi made a valiant effort, he came just short and was unable to fashion his own brand of Kryptonite. Losers was a slugfest, with HoneyBee besting FilipinoMan only to fall to King, and Whiteboy struggling to figure out the puzzle as King eliminated him.

ANALYSIS
Heroes Of the Weekend
The true strengh of Bane and Aquaman has shown itself, and can no longer be denied. In addition, Whiteboi has moved beyond the threat of being a one-hit-wonder and earned his way into the short list of serial Top 8-placers. Filipinoman has also worked his way up the ladder, and may become the Wonder Woman that the community has been looking for since Injustice's early days.
HoneyBee continues to be one of the most creative players in the game; and he brandishes an ever-increasing arsenal of situation-specific tech event by event as he continues to innovate with mechanics. And a number of players will be back to the drawing board, looking for answers in matchups they may have throught they'd mastered.
In the end, the humble Theo has lived up to his billing as "The One to Beat", staking his claim to the IGAU throne with back-to-back victories at SCR and UFGT. Between the tournament itself and the Ghost Battle Series the night before, he hardly looked threatened at any point; and it'll be interesting to see if anyone manages to finally give him some trouble in the near future.
The Road Ahead
We're off to a busy summer season, with Major League Gaming just around the corner, followed by Orlando's CEO and the cornerstone of the tournament season in EVO 2014. Anticipation is on the rise as East and West are set to collide at MLG. And some pressing questions about where specific players stand in the overall scheme of things will likely be put to the test and then put to rest soon.
Injustice is continuing its streak of strong tournament showings, and there's a lot to get excited about heading into the next round of events. With both players looking extremely dominant, everyone is eager to see the Jupiter vs. Theo match, which may finally happen at Anaheim.
Congratulations to all this weekend's placers.. And stay tuned!

ANALYSIS
Heroes Of the Weekend
- Filipino Man -- In his first major appearance in to 8, he adeptly fought his way through a tough field of competitors in order to notch his strongest placing to date.
- Forever King Jr. -- Possibly 'America's Sweetheart', the younger King surprised a lot of people when he tore a hole through pools and dispatched several notable players. Looking composed and in-control, this was some of his best play yet.
- 16 Bit -- Things have been looking up for Bit after his post-SCR emotional slump. With one of the tournament's most memorable matches -- and a couple of the year's most stunning comebacks -- Bit held his own in both MK and Injustice at UFGT, and has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
