Titanfall - what the heck is it

I put 15 hours into the beta this last weekend. Frothy pretty much hit the nail on the head. I haven't had so much fun in an FPS in a long time.

Some background information on Respawn Entertainment who are the developers of this game. Shortly after the release of Call of Duty 4- Modern Warfare1 (It may have been one title later than this) the heads of Infinity Ward were fired by activision. When this happened they decided to make their own company Respawn Entertainment, when they did this about 40 employees who were working for Activisions Infinity Ward quit their jobs to go work for Respawn. It kind of connects the dots as to why the CoD series has been so terrible since and it's why I'm so optimistic that TitanFall will be great. This optimism was reinforced with my experience in the beta this past weekend.

This game is fun as hell. There are crazy epic moments that happen often. One of my highlights, jumping on the back of the enemy titan while it was engaged with an Ally Titan, I rodeo the titan and take it down, the pilot of the enemy Titan ejects and we both skyrocket into the air, not realizing he was still alive I fail to look for him, because of this he kills me during our descent to the ground. Seeing it from his perspective was pretty amazing and even though I died I thought it was awesome.

The beta is boring for me so far,.but thats how BF4 was on PS4 at first.

I'm going to get it because I think there is great potential.

no mod tools, no dedicated servers, no competitive mode(promod etc), ladders/tournaments probably only for XB1 and not for PC, 13maps at release no DLC plans yet (but I'm sure EA will push them for 4month cycle releases)

I hate the minions, it keeps reminding me farming creeps in LoL, which I HATE, it evens the playing field for the lesser skilled because they can just farm them and get titans, I played the game since beta launched btw.

I have a 4 year old computer and it runs fine. It doesn't look as good but who cares about graphics when it comes to an FPS. You just want to kill people. PC is by far the best way to play this.

Edit: I have quad core 2.6 with 4 gigs or RAM. So we are about the same.

What is wrong abot it? The guy said the truth. It was fun playing it for a few hours but the lack of skill required to actually kill is just amazing. Weapons shoot in a fuckin straight line, have absolutely no recoil (try the dmr, its a fuckin joke). Not gonna even comment the smart pistol, just dumb and requires no skill at all. Why would someone make a weapon in a shooter game that encourages lack of aim is beyond me.
I know the grunts etc are not supposed to spoil the game but they are just there to get farmed, simply useless. There are much more drawbacks which doesnt mean that I didnt enjoy the game at all. Movement is awesome and intuitive(?) and makes the game fast paced, but not in a cod way (running in circles and shit). I believe thats because of pretty nice map construction and multi floored buildings. Also the optimalization is good, it runs smoothly on my pretty old PC and good graphical settings. Overall, it doesnt deserve the hype it gets, but its not a bad game.

Using your own words, yes you farm the ai, but it's not useless as it helps with your titan.

This game is all about movement and setting yourself up so if you're being locked on to by a smart pistol you deserved to be killed by it.

Thanks captain fuckin obvious. I meant they are useless by not even trying to deal any damage to anything (except spectres which attack titans).

Was that supposed to be an insult to my skill? If yes then try harder because u failed badly. Moving doesnt mean u cant get locked so your point is pretty retarded.

Lol the smart pistol isn't that great. Is it completely retarded and should be removed from the game based on principle alone? Yes. But all you have to do is break line of sight for even just a moment to break the lock. There are not many situations where you can't kill somebody with a smart pistol before they can kill you. Has it resulted in a few rage deaths for me? Yeah. But it's not that bad, just have to learn to deal with it.

Jump kicks though... oh my fucking god those are so broke. Pls nerf respawn

I didnt say its op since it has cons, just that the concept is stupid.

and i agreed that the concept is stupid. It almost makes parkour too strong, I don't even have to aim lol. Just run/jump like a maniac until the 3 tracking beams turn red then win. Really stupid

really the jump kicks? they seem like a reasonable nerf to the melee knife from earlier cod games which had like 0 frame start up and had lunging tracking

The smart pistol is best at farming AI, any competent player doesn't get killed by it, the occasions I have been killed by it it's generally been because I was standing still doing nothing. Getting a triple lock on a pilot in such a fast paced game is hard to do. If I know I have enemy pilots in my vicinity I switch to my side arm because I know the smart pistol is weak in those situations. I also disagree with the Laidbackones skill assessment. I played COD4 competitively in Cal and some other leagues that were popular during that time, I'll concede that the skill variables are a lot different but it's still a game that has a skill curve and that's already been made quite evident with my brief experience in the beta. I've watched noob pilots lose their Titans almost instantly. I also played in matches with teams with great communication that dominated the other teams. I will say that upon my first impression that TitanFall is a much more team oriented game, I'm not sure how this will play out in the competitive scene as I don't know what modes will be adopted for it, but the games I played seemed to be more dependent on teamwork than individual skill (If your titan gets rodeod and you have a teammate who kills the enemy riding your titan, vs. you losing your titan or dying yourself by trying to kill the pesky pilot). Regardless, the skill curve is there and you're blind if you don't see it. It's not the same as most FPS's that I think people are used to but even just over a couple days I saw differences in the meta game and player habits.
