Creativity. This is completely arguable, despite the fact that MvC3 hasn't done anything remotely original outside of X-factor (gee, temporary god mode, what a clever gimmick), but I just wanted to point out that you sound like a pretentious fuck.

Popularity. No shit, Marvel 2 has been played for what, ten years? Marvel 3 inherited much of its fanbase from Marvel 2, whereas Mortal Kombat hasn't been a competitive fighter since... Well, ever, really. UMK3 has always been at some tournaments, but it definitely had/has more of a niche following.

Playerbase, see above. In fact, popularity and playerbase are more or less synonymous in fighting game terms. Do you have any idea what the fuck you're talking about?

Execution. Yeah, the fact that Marvel is more execution-heavy definitely makes it a "better" fighting game. If you're actually just whining about the negative edge issue, I didn't see it slowing down Lord of the Fly's Nightwolf yesterday, and Nightwolf struggles with negative edge more than anyone (with the possible exception of Jade).
This.

Also, you gotta hate that loli atmosphere most japanese fighting games have (I can think of tekken as an exception). I personally can't stand it. I know this has nothing to do with gameplay tho.

Talking about gameplay, I find mvc to be too fast and flashy, and in my opinion that leaves a big room for lucky players (Only on pools perhaps, I'll be sure to check the finals on sunday). I prefer games that take it a bit slower, with mindgames and all. But then again, it all comes down to taste, and mine says MK is at a very close level comparing to MvC. (And both games are miles behind SSFIV)

Also, pupularity and playerbase don't make a game good (Aside from perhaps MMOs). Of course having tousands of players online that you can challenge (And a netcode better than mk's) leads to a much better experience, but doesn't defines if a game is good or bad, underrated or overrated.

---

If MK wants to make it to evo 2012, launching an Ultimate MK 9 would be a good move. It would be much better than a possibly glitchy and unbalanced MK10, but i doubt it'll happen. I sure hope mk never leaves evo and develops a fanbase half as huge as SF's. Hope nothing too weird happens at this sunday.

Sorry for any possible english mistakes, brazilian kombatant

Okay, wait, I'm just now noticing this charming individual right here.

...What the hell are you even trying to say, here? If you're using "kids" in context, I can only assume you're implying that some amount of children go to Ivy League schools.

Tell me what word all eight of these have in common, and reevaulate how stupid that sounds.

I think maybe it's time to stop posting.
rofl could you rage harder? And can you read?

The analogy was used to point out that there are extreme cases everywhere, but those exceptions don't prove anything. Hey guess what? there are a handful of kids that have gone to universities. Since he implied that because an 8 year old placed well in a tourney the game must take no skill.

The whole part of what you quoted me was in reference to this

But I do think MvC is a little overrated when it comes to some people that believe it is miles in front of MK (Lot's of MK haters out there in the SF and MvC crowds). MK9 has it's flaws, but both games do, and I think MK9 is close to MvC3, if not at the same level. But this belief may involve some personal taste since I haven't really played MvC a lot and don't like the series that much.
Creativity: Team Creation, Combos, amount of options, playstyle( ammy?), reset options

Playerbase =/=popularity. There are plenty of people that DON'T play MvC3 but they will happily watch it. Are you a dumbfuck? Yes you are!

Who ever said MvC3 was a better game? I said it was ahead in certain departments. It seems like you are the dumbfuck that can't read.

Time to quote somebody for you

I think maybe it's time (for you) to stop posting.
But you probably can't help yourself so get at me. F5 F5 F5 away

Yeah, I see your point, but still, I think MK beats MvC3 in some departaments too, so that levels things up.

EDIT: Also, (S)SFIV has ridicolous shoryuken inputs. that IS in fact scrub-friendly. (Let the flames begin).

Yeah it does, for instance it has a better meter management, and less of a comeback features. Its the nature of games to be different in certain aspects, but you have to accept and realize the flaws in your game so that you can point those out to the developer for improvements.

Yeah, of course MK can, must and hopefully will inprove. All I say about MvC is because some stupid (Mainly SSFIV) players love to talk trash about MK and how it shouldn't even be at evo in the place of SFII, but are completely ok with MvC3 that, imo, is on the very same level when we look at gameplay. But it's allright, the game WILL be back at evo2k12, i am sure of it. NRS just has to make some new releases to keep it there in the long run. If some day this game gets the respect it deserves from most of the fighting game community they can hope for sales getting REALLY BIG. The key is to keep it kompetitive ;)

It does have some ridiculous leniency on shoryukens, no question about it. But I don't see how f,d,f or even df, df, is more ridiculous than just d, f (Kung Lao and Kano). Worst case scenario both games have 2 input dragon punch type moves.

edit: To stay somewhat on topic, does anyone know what time on Sunday, top 8 for MK is?

No MK on stream 2 atm but theres tekken and aris is talking to that Kayo girl (born as a guy) its fkin hilarious. I reccommend every1 to check it out.
Yo, what's up spongebob. It's Havik/CrazyYoshimitsu from the chat on 8wr.

Michelangelo said he had problems with the PS2 pad and even the commentators saw that it was giving him significant problems in executing the iagb, therefore giving him problems in the two matches he lost to Chris G and Online/Offline Tony.
Sigh...This is a way to take out pad players:(. I'm just kidding though, but I find it strange. I just got a fresh ps2 pad the other day.

I'm a true fan of MK.

I was not so hype about seeing randoms play when we didn't get to see REO vs. Michaelangelo, or any of Jwong/Pig of the Hut. We also didn't get to see Milky Situation eliminate Trophy Club and Banana Ken, which is a pretty big deal given how reputable they both are.

I'm pretty disappointed in the top 8 turnout, especially now that Valle is out, but I'll still watch for REO, PL and Chris G. There's a really good Subs player in there as well, so I'll want to see that anyhow.
I disagree 100% with a side of pickles and cheese fires. I fucking love this top 8. It's good to see some unknowns come out of no where and make splash. If we got who we wanted, then it would have been boring in my opinion. This top 8 is amazing in my opinion. I respect yours though.

Everybodys opinion is different I guess, but most people are really excited there are 8 different chars in there and on the stream, there were great matches. People focus on the names so much and not the matches. Nobody knew who Devil Jim was (outside of Tekken and Soul Calibur where he is nationally known) until he almost peaced out Perfect Legend

I bought MvC3 on release day. Had not really been into any fighting games before and thought this one looked cool.

Well I did not really like it. There was very little singe player content and online matches were laggy and took several minutes to find.

It did not help that after around 3 weeks of me having the game every player was using the same team from a 'diverse' cast. It was just Wesker, Wolverine, Sentinel, Magneto and so on. And the X-Factor bull annoyed me as well.

Good flashy game, but not for me.

Yeah, I was not comparing both games. Just bashing (S)SFIV for the lulz.

On topic: al I've found so far was this:

10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Top 8 Players in each tournament battle for the championships, in the following order:

BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2 Tournament Finals
Tekken 6 Tournament Finals
Mortal Kombat 9 Tournament Finals
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Tournament Finals
Super Street Fighter IV Tournament Finals

the AE competition, matches, and hype were just a lot better than MK9s. every single match in the top 64 in ae was so good throughout the whole night. all i play is mk9 right now but i spent more time watching the sf stream because their was alot of subpar play and lack of hype in the mk top 64. the game is never going to get the following or interest that sf gets because the game does not have one tenth of the depth, skill, or excitement that sf has. detroitballn vs valle is the only match in 12 hours of streaming even worth remembering. please stop trying to put mk9 in the same class as ssf4 because youre comparing checkers to chess...anyways gl to top 8.
The people running the stream did not know what matches the viewers wanted to see. This is mainly because they have a MvC3/AE background. This is why a majority of the matches pulled on streams displayed known fighting game players from other games. The seeding was also messed up, a lot of the people from the same states ended up playing against each other a little to early. We should have received the same love that the Capcom games received but we just didn't. For example we had Morty Seinfeld from Arizona put Detroit into losers immediately after both qualified. Where as seeding in AE/MvC3 gave the judges freedom to delay stuff like this happening until closer to the end of the tournament. Maybe I am just a little salty but I feel like seeding played a huge role in placing some non-top players in top 64 or higher.

Advice for people preparing for tournaments. Be prepared to deal with wake up attacks, no amount of punishment will stop 90% of the people you play against from doing wake up attacks every time.

Edit: There is so much more I could say about the way the tournament was treated/run. I'm pretty sure Tom Brady will release a podcast detailing the ups and downs. Given the flurry of games coming out this/next year I don't see Mortal Kombat making it back.

This is a message for anyone attending the MK finals today...

I NEED YOU TO GET HYPE!!!! Please please please!!! If the crowd is empty and no one is getting excited and going "OHHH!" "AHHH!".. the game looks boring from the outside. One of the main reasons people can get into SF and Marvel is that the crowd is so energetic and hype that even someone who knows nothing about the game can get excited.

I really want this to happen for MK today. No more of this laid back applause. Get a few beers in you (or redbulls), and get fucking HYPE!!!!

I honestly do believe that depending on the outcome of people watching the finals and how people react to the game will determine whether or not there is a spot for us at EVO next year. Even though I think we will be back.. I just want to see the MK crowd get as hype for their game as the Capcom people do. I think if people do that today, more people will be intrigued by the game and maybe even stop hating on it so much.

So please... GET HYPE!

hopefully mk gets shown on the big screen since it doesn't clash with any other games and people are bound to sit down and watch as they wait for their games to start. surely the finals won't be played in the corner of the room with a small tv and a few people only being able to crowd around.

If he did that to me, I'd get out of my chair and fucking beat him to death with it.

It's weird enough that he's cosplaying Kitana, but whatever, I won't judge for that. When you bend over in my face after beating me, you're just asking to be put in intensive care.
He looks pretty toned to me. I bet he'd body your ass.

It IS being shown on the big stage. We will have the opportunity to have a large crowd. I pray to god that people get hype. During some of the most epic fights on friday, we had a nice little crowd hurdling around one TV.. which was GREAT! However, no one seemed too excited. Thats what bugged me. Me and my friends were going apeshit during that Chris G vs Michealangelo fight and it seemed like everyone watching it live werent too hype.

I just really hope we have a loud and hype ass finale. Thats all I want. If we have that, I dont see MK going anywhere but up.
