Killer Instinct netcode is amazing.

It seems to have a GGPO style netcode and it works really well. I really wish more games would adopt this type of netcode. NRS please use this in your next game. Nobody likes large amounts of input lag in fighting games.

I'm not sure the other fighting games can follow suite with KI. The way I understand it it's not just the great netcode but also the matchmaking system MS came up with for the Xbone also plays into the great online ppl are exp. with KI.

Can that really be it, though? For example, Riyo and Filthierich played each other the other night. Riyo is in NJ and DHG is in CA, and and it was still smooth. That can't just be the matchmaker. The in-match code itself has to be working overtime.

I heard the cloud servers may also play a role.

if online doesn't have lag any more how will we be able to adapt? our excuse wont be viable anymore .___. also how can we tell if we are in the machine or disconnected? if online is just as good as offline than is there really a difference? will up be down, black is white, dog is cat and vise versa? the kinect works too perfectly for voice chat; I can no longer tell if im alone at home or lost in a crowd of everybody! I cant tell what is real any more  im seriously freaking out you guys!!!

It's not the only factor thats what I was trying to say is I think it's a combo of both systems working together

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the netcode style alone. It's a mixture of rollback and probably a slight delay depending on the distance between players. Having the rollback reduces delay and vice versa. When you combine the 2 the online play gets a lot better.

Matchmaking is just matchmaking. I don't think it has anything to do with the quality of the connection outside of maybe automatically picking the people with the best connection to you. The matchmaking is fast though which I like.

The matchmaking plays a part in it as well Mike said it during one of the interviews about KI. Thats where I first heard about it was when he was praising the MM system DH and MS came up with for the game and how it was going to make online play alot smoother and less laggy. The netcode is MVP of the show for sure I'm just saying it's not doing it all by it's self. They also said having the dedicated servers help with that too.

Did people forget that all games on Xbox One are run on dedicated servers? This might be a big reason why the game runs so smoothly online.

From what I've heard on many occasions is that any type of server, even dedicated would just slow down the connection between the two players. I'm not saying this is true for sure but apparently P2P is the cleanest way to connect in a fighting game with no server in between. All my info is from countless discussions in forums so what I'm saying could be false.

As far as matchmaking goes the only way I can see it affecting the connection is by picking the players with the strongest signal to you. Outside of that I the netcode is pretty much doing all the work. Also I think the new consoles have better network hardware but I'm not sure. If so I'm sure that adds to connection quality.

Is this true for all games? I know every COD game that has come out runs on user hosted servers. Still I don't think a dedicated server would benefit a 1 on 1 fighting game but I could be wrong.
