I never play more than two, or if I can't help myself, which is often, three characters. Anything more is just too much for me.

All of my competitive wins have come from counterpicks- for I play 8 characters- and know basics with most everyone else.
Harley, Joker, Cyborg, Shazam, Lex Luthor, Grundy, Batman, and a trashy Scorpion.
All of them are exceptional in different areas of IGAU.
Some are strict anti-zoners, some are well rounded, some are momentum based, one escapes OKI pressure exceptionally well, one dominates the air and has nice setups out the wazoo... and one has 80% combos.
I have something for everyone.
Except for Black Adam.
Screw Black Adam.

I feel like the hardest part is truly figuring out WHAT your playstyle is and what characters you think actually match that. I've been playing competitive fighters for almost 10 years now and I feel like I just recently figured out what my playstyle really is haha. I believe getting experience in multiple fighters helps narrow it down pretty specifically.

Great thread by the way.

For me personally 2 potentially 3 is the max. All of the characters in IGAU intrigue me because I'm huge fan of DC. Going in I knew Batman would be my main because I've been a fan of the character growing up.

Finding a second character wasn't quite so easy. I put a lot of practice and match up time into Aquaman. Dabbled with Catwoman. Dabbled with Superman. Dabbled with Cyborg. Considered Nightwing, Deathstroke, and Doomsday.

As my secondary I decided to go with the Flash because I enjoy rush down type characters.

My goal is to add a 3rd and final character. I'm considering revisiting Catwoman but Zatanna has got my attention at the moment :).

The best advice I can give is to know your preferred play style and gravitate toward those type of characters. It will make your character crisis a whole lot easier .

What a day. What a lovely day.
I say play whatever character interests you, whether it be looks, backstory, etc. You'll find yourself enjoying the game and leveling up faster if you have a genuine interest in the character from the get-go. At least, IMO.

Play Bane.

Honestly there is no character more fun than him. His MUs are uphill but not impossible, he wins a few of them. He is constantly hype, his playstyle is dynamic enough to keep him entertaining, and you can swap your style so much in the game that you can be a grappler one game, a striker the next, a wall the next. Doesn't sound like much difference, but it can make a huge one in the right hands and MUs. The opponent thinks they know your tactics, and then you curveball them and the entire match you spend conditioning them comes into play.

Arrow is funner.. People feel so stupid when I hold an Arrow intimidatingly and make a korrect read...

I selected the 3rd option although in my case i always try to learn a top 5 or 6 characters, now even though im just an online player, this has been working decently, i currently have Bane, Batgirl, Green Lantern, Zod, Doomday, and Lobo.

I just recently picked up Lobo so my game total with him is lower than the others but with my first 5 i have well over 200 wins with each (Over 500 with Bane and 300 with Batgirl) and the lowest win rate out of the 5 is a 3 way tie at 77% between GL, Zod, and DD. Even Lobo who i just picked up maybe a week ago is sitting at a 73% (170 wins i believe) win rate, so i would say doing this works fine if ur willing to put the effort in.

So you're dead F*cken wrong! ! !

Who wants to skip around yolo charging and not making people feel stupid? Especially with a slow ass moveset..
Oh right, I forgot the prissy arrows are obviously more fun than snapping someone's spine.
Tell me when people start caring about your combo damage, meanwhile I'll just be armoring through everything.

P.S. People don't have time to feel stupid, they'll be more concerned about no longer feeling their legs.

I only, in depth, know two characters. I believe you should learn bad MUs and try to overcome them. It makes you better as a player.

I play a little bit of everyone. One of my friends and I love to do hidden cursor random select just for fun. Though, I do end up gravitating towards "mains." In MK it was Scorpion and Sektor. I know all their strings and some baller combos. One of Scorpions I call the GGA Slips special. 212~Spear, NJP, b2, J3. TelePunch, 11~LegTakedown if memory serves correct. :p

For everyone else, I know most if not all their specials, a few strings, and maybe a combo or two.
In a game like Tekken, that would be impossible. Or close to it. So, I just stick with who I know. The Kings, Kazuya, Bryan, and a few others.

I haven't quite had that gravitation moment with Injustice, but I say if you are having a character crisis, dabble around until you find what you like. :D

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
In the past I went route A with only 1 main man as my character. I realized that having 2 to 3 characters though fit me better as I'd rather just not deal with the uphill fights. Would YOU want to play Green Arrow vs Superman? It sucks. Granted I come from 3v3 games like Marvel and King of Fighters XIII , but I think its best to round out your go to characters and not reduce the game down to a singular experience.

I got a lot of good memories out of playing Chun/Ryu/Sentinel and Taskmaster/Iron Fist/Arthur.
In KoF XIII I started as Chin/Vice/K' and eventually went Andy/K'/EX Kyo.
In Tatsunoko vs Capcom I was just Tekkaman/Roll or randoms.

I have a pretty big range of experiences in those games from playing variety. Win or Lose I think I got a lot out of my time in those games due to trying to experience more things in them than one or two character setups.

Currently I'm:
Hawkgirl
Bane
Green Arrow

...and though I see faults with the game I'm having fun. Had I just stuck with Green Arrow I'd probably be stressed dealing with his constant uphill battle for damage. Play the game in ways that feel fun...if you aren't enjoying the game try different characters in it.

They love my Grayson
I mained NW since day, I'm a huge Dick Grayson so there was no stopping me from doing so. I've had over 4000 matches playing as NW, got a lot of practice and got a real good feel for him. I can seriously improve, but I have fun and I'm pretty much content with how he plays and matchups against most characters on the roster. Love his staff stance and I don't think it's being used to it's fullest potential as well the Escrima Stance.

Bane is my 2nd main, and like Doombawkz said...there's no one more fun than him. I'm still trying to understand the life of playing Bane so I need to hit up the forum, find a Bane player and get some practice to learn some tricks.

Harley Quinn is my 3rd, wish she was faster, but overall fun play style. I'm still weak with her overall.

Cold day in hell...
I have a never ending character crisis with this game. I play Harley now 60% of the time but it's totally random who else I might play. I don't really know why either. I'm not sure if I just can't dig into this game hard like MK (I had no problem narrowing MK down to Sub Zero, and Kung Lao.) or if it just hasn't clicked yet. In any fighting game I usually mess around with almost the whole cast but I have never had this much of a problem narrowing down my mains and spending hours upon hours playing them. I do think a player should know at least 2 characters at a high level.

I have a profound respect for players that can use one character throughout a long career in a fighting game. It takes discipline enough to overcome any challenges, and it is always awesome to watch a character specialist do things that no one else can do with that character (mainly win). It is why I have tried my hardest to stick with one character in this game in any tournament setting.

Playing a secondary for fun in casuals or to figure out more about your enemy is great, but I have to vote for mastering one character.

Also it isn't "relying" on one character, it is not having to rely on matchup numbers.

There is a difference between "learning" characters and actually playing them in tournament. Learn whoever you want because it will help you in those MUs, but in tournament stick to two characters that cover each others bad MUs, or better yet stick to one and have one backup for a really hard MU.
