Ahh mah man Manny. We knew about your fighting game skills, but never did we think you'd earn wider media coverage for your tears. But here you are on the front page of IGN:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/14/evo-2014-tears-of-a-champion

When I think about it, you've practiced so hard.. The manny months of tears on Twitter; the emotional outbursts and rivers aflow on forums and podcasts since Summer 2012. All leading up to this.

Although Tom gave you a run for your money, in the end it is you who has had The Last Cry :).

In all seriousness though, congratulations on a clearly hearfelt EVO victory and the press to go with it. It was a touching moment, and clearly other people have picked up on that as well. Wishing you the best in everything from here forward.

(Also Kudos to Vince Ingenito and Mike Mahardy at IGN, who have done a fantastic job publicizing EVO this year).

If you want to talk about tears, there were waterfalls after Smash and Blazblue finished. Some dude was talking about some other guy from the Smash community and crying so much I thought the guy died or something. Nope, he was there....on commentary and alive.

I understood Jr's emotion, though. Just sitting there and taking in the fact that you just proved you were the best in the world at something is pretty heavy.

This mean you don't like me?
Unless one has been in the same position, it's hard to relate to the elation one gets from seeing their hard work pay off, and the relief of proving yourself to the entire world. Tears of joy that showed the sincerity of his triumph. Congratulations @CD jr
When I play Injustice online it's usually just regular tears for me.

@CD jr took EVO on a KI tournament with my favourite character on my favourite stage with my favourite music and he did it not only for himself, but for the NRS community as well, my life is complete, now onto MKX

The dude doing commentary was Prog, and he's retiring/taking a break from commentary. He's been around and actually pushed melee bigger than it has ever been, so d1 being emotional over one of his closest friends leaving warrants him being emotional

That's about right.
I almost wish you didn't post this because of the comments for the article. You know, and this is a quote.

I will never understand this, why winning a fighting tournament would make someone emotional. That is just so dumb and nearly cringe worthy. I mean, unless you're playing the last of us, I don't know why you're crying to a fucking video game lol"

To those of you on this site that have this guys mentality; When you first try a fighting game one of two things will happen eventually. 1. You will start losing and assume the game sucks and quit. 2. One day you will question why you are losing.

Sadly, a lot of people just assume and quit, but to those that ask themselves the latter you understand. It can send you on a very fun and humbling experience. You will begin to delve deeper into the game to understand how it works, spend countless hours in training mode, learning frame data, which can eventually give you some wins and you falling in love with the competitive aspect. Then that's where the IGN article comes in...that question you ask yourself, "how good am I really?"

I'm not ashamed to admit I would cry if I won EVO and I'm older than cdjr. There is no shame in it if you develop a passion for something, even if it can seem silly to others. This is YOUR time on this planet. Do whatever can bring you joy and emotion...even if it is a video game. Fuck the others.

I hatelove this game
I couldn't help but cry after I finished my first marathon. It was inescapable after all the weeks of training, injuries, and that 6 hours of non stop running. My emotions took over.

I totally understand why he got so emotional because I have been there. He is now not only known for MK...he has surpassed his accomplishments in MK with this EVO win and in a game that is far better than MK ever was. Its a testament to the kind of player he is and the kind of passion he has.

This is the best genuine gaming article I've ever read.
It wasn't even a long, extensive article, but it makes people understand and be proud.
IGN makes beautiful stuff like this every once in a while.
A while back there was an intellectual, pride-bringing article on the sense of wonder and discovery and fulfilment games can bring, in which some stuff was said about how every game with an open world will have an amazing treasure to find, somewhere... maybe even underwater, or something.

I really like when IGN takes their time and writes thought-provoking articles, a la Polygon. For example, that series of in-depth writeups on the history of Naughty Dog is fascinating.

I know it can be hard, when "Xbox One Game is 720p" or "Which Console is Better" generates an instant 4000 comments. But they really made an effort to showcase EVO well, and that's cool.

Glad to see IGN cleaned up their act and got better writing then. I haven't frequented that site in so long- because when I used to all their articles where horrid click-bait, so I stopped.

To put it in perspective, the last time I went to IGN, this was basically how they made their articles:

Haha, yeah I know what you mean. There's still plenty of click bait "The Top 14 Deaths of Game of Thrones", "The Top 10 Reasons Sony May Win The Console War" etc. But some of the writers are trying to mix some thoughtful commentary in with the fluff. At the end of the day it's a mixed bag, but it's good to at least see some diversity in the mix.

Seems like 50% of the IGN comments are shit talking him.

It's sad that being a human and displaying emotions is seen as vulgar. No wonder so many people are depressed. Crying releases endorphins. We are supposed to cry. If we don't we will end up being spiteful little fuckheads that post shitty comments online. Let it out.
