NRS working conditions - This NEEDS to be discussed

Man, $12 an hour for that kind of work? I had no idea it was that low. Here, just basic office clerical work pays more than that.

I have to wonder who is to blame though. Does WB keep NRS on such a strict 2-year release schedule that it forces NRS' hand and they have to crunch so hard? Or does NRS readily accept those working conditions?

Must be different depending on the country. I had a friend in Germany who got 20+ days of vacation per year, mandatory, starting out. I was literally shocked when I found out lol. There I was at a place I'd been for 4 years, waiting on my 5th year to get 10 working days off.

Here's a list that may be helpful:

Yeah, we have that too (when you do a regularly declared job). I wasn't implying it's slavery here, we have our pros and cons like everywhere else, just that the concepts explained in the OP thread are not that unusual here, in fact they're pretty common.

Just to say, you consider 12 dollars per hour to be a low pay, here most common jobs get you 7/8 dollars per hour, 9 if you're lucky .

So, multiple people complaining, bad pay, sexism in the workplace, constant overtime, people being worked to death, the top guys being paid first so a boycott will only hurt the average worker?
If Jason Schreier actually publishes an article their public image will be torn to shreds. On top of the previous always online microtransaction controversy? Doesn't sound like good times ahead for NRS.

Haha haha the bathrooms, oh no! Give me 11 dollars an hour to work on MK. Will do it happily. These people bitching about the unisex bathroom are probably the same people that turned jade into a nun. Just saying..

I worked for Rockstar during the crunch and release for Red Dead Redemption 2.

I can empathise with people in the industry during crunch. Though Rockstar started to make changes to fix crunch culture before I left. Hopefully the same happens here and NRS being exposed forces them to change the way they do things.

Yeah I know. Just need to rant a little about how the U.S. sucks lol. No vacation, no affordable health care, etc. It's a fuckin joke.

Unfortunately, there's little we can do. Hopefully, a lot of good can come from the investigation if these things are brought to light. It's not up to the consumer to try and fight this, they know we appreciate the work they put in, we tell them time and time again, it's the higher-ups that have to actually implement changes.

Right. Because....Simply put, this is not our battle to fight. Its not like y'all are gonna boycott playing MK and for what? Against he said vs she said? Some things are just left alone for people to fight themselves.

Wrong.

I love NRS but the more this is highlighted and talked about the higher chance of it getting remedied. It happened with Rockstar after all of the news about their crunch.

No. That's a nihilistic approach. We can throw our support behind unionization in the games industry for both game developers and VAs.

The "we can't do anything" is exactly what those in power want you to think. This kind of passivity enables this shit to keep happening. I like you man, but a better perspective starts with us here as players.

We dont need to boycott. They told us what we can do if we would like to help.

Then honestly tell me, wtf YOU plan on doing about this situation? lol You want to jump ship because "stories" of workers being treated unfairly by a company came out? We dont even know if these stories are true or not.

During Injustice 2, I got offered a job from NRS to work on their mobile game. I got pretty excited but then I read the part in the e-mail that said they were only going to give me 12$/hr, no relocation help, and it was a temporary position. 12 dollars/hr? Isn’t that like working in McDonalds. Made me raise an eyebrow. I later discovered that’s the standard salary they give to junior artists or people trying to break in the industry over there. I’m in the film industry now, and i’ve never worked on games so I can’t make comparisons...but I did feel disappointed.

Stop talking if you dont want to listen and dont even understand how you could help.

If you dont believe it, say so, but coming to the conclusion that nothing should be done at our level sucks.

Nope. Boycotting the game hurts the workers most affected by this.

As I said, build up more and more pressure through articles, investigations etc and make sure there’s enough heat under their ass to change. It can and will most likely work to a certain degree. If Jason is investigating it then that’s a good start.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
such coincidence that this sprout out and see the light of day, in/at the same time NRS release its best game ever (MK11) ? why not this surfaced before ? I dunno, seems a bit tricky believe in all of this ....

Let's be honest it's probably true. But the problem is systemic. The industry itself is sick. It's sick and it's overworked.

We as gamers and consumers demand more and more. Our expectations of games grow and grow, technology improves, graphics get better, more and more possible issues arise as graphical fidelity increases. Bigger and better consoles with different issues of their own. Game engines become more and more expensive and intensive to work with. We live in a digital age now but the physical copies still have to be produced which puts it on a strict launch time line because of the process of fabircating and distributing the discs. Publishers want to see their investment pay off faster, and with higher profit. The entire process is bloated and at the very core of it is the demand. Consumerism.

Just like the food industry which, in America at least, has gone from the good ol' days of farm raising and grass fed to feed lots that go on for miles and processing plants that blacken the sky.

We live in America. Our demand will be met.

You're just seeing the cows of the gaming industry.

Thank you. I like me too :)

I'm just saying I see shit like this EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY online in different situations and people will always come to conclusions before getting facts to act. Burden of proof HAS to be there in order for people to really stand behind them. Just them saying their word doesn't hold weight especially in this day & age where people lie for attention.

Stop talking if you dont want to listen and dont even understand how you could help.

That's exactly what im saying. I don't believe shit until I see substantial proof. But if you want to take this battle, go ahead. I salute you. But don't be coming here to turn people against NRS for the cause u don't even know its true. That's all im saying. Good luck. I'm out.

The Bioware expose came out less than a month after it's big Anthem release. It exposed everything including upper mismanagement and poor treatment of its employees. Keep giving NRS the benefit of the doubt if you want, but if Jason is investigating its because he knows how this industry operates.

It baffles me that in this day and age people are so fast to defend big corporations no matter what and just don't give a fuck about the little guy who gets shafted.
It's happened before. Hell, it happens everyday. The game development industry is sick and the lack of empathy here is just ridiculous.

I actually asked this question when I first saw him. Was it due to stress from development or out of working out and eating better. Pig of the hut came at me because he doesn't understand the negative effects of stress and that this was a possibility.
