Wow. The funny thing is you actually missed a couple of OH's!!! This makes me wonder why the heat about asking for an OH. I personally never asked for it, but if almost every character in the game has one in all variations, and even Shinnok was added one, then what's the problem? Counting strings with OH's in them,

I'm curious as to how many characters have absolutely zero. Are there any?? lol
Shinnok desperately needed one because aside from a jump attack he had 0 OHs. It was something we did request way back when and was a SEVERE problem with the character. Every character should, at least in this game have a OH. Doesn't have to be safe, but it's needed.

EDIT: It should be noted Shinnok did have one OH but it was useless because it just lead to a HKD in 1123. 3 being the OH.

As a player looking for another character to play I've been going through the forums and seeing what the mains are doing. With this patch it seemed like a lot of things opened up ad i figured i'd go back to Kano. He seemed to be a nice defensive character and i wanted a grappler so win/win. Yet it seems like he has a problem or 2 and characters have tools similar to his that just function better.

So my questions to the Kano community is: Would you recommend actually learning this character? Should I just go somewhere else like shaolin KJ? With these things you are asking for, would they be enough for Kano?

EDIT: you can PM me answers. I don't want to change the topic or nothing like that but figured this would be the best place to get answers on the character's current state and possibly his future.
No. There are better grapplers, better zoners and better 50/50 characters. There is no reason to pick him up unless you're a masochist and think that the revolution skin is the best skin in the world (like me)

Normalize grab immunity.
If you are looking to pick up a new character, I would not recommend Kano unless youre just playing for fun and winning doesn't really matter to you. If it doesn't, he is a very fun one to use and feels rewarding. If it does, well there's a reason why the first 3 weeks Kano was one of the most used characters in all the early tourneys, and now he's one of the least.

For the 2nd point, yes, I think these changes would be enough. They wouldn't make him "Top 10", but they would keep him out of the pit.

Is there anyone that feels like how Kano does though? I don't want a offensive character who kinda grabs sometimes. I have that with Brawler Cassie. I liked the kinda methodical way I played Kano. Putting out pokes and trying to get my opponent to stand still long enough for me to get started. Then abuse some frame traps or empty jumps into more grabs. Kano seemed unfinished in this department. Maybe there is no one who really does what I'm looking for and hopefully tremor or even Predator does this.

Don't get me wrong. I love Kano. But I wouldn't recommend picking him up unless you really like him. But I will say this. He is good practice if you want to improve your spacing, footies and punishing. No flowchart 50/50s forces you to play smart and it is really improving my fundamentals

Did he already have his f4 at least? If so then he was exactly like Kano is now in cyber and commando. Although I gotta say he still had his FB chip and pressure so I'd say his trump card was a little better. But this just helps solidify our argument on why it shouldn't be hard or unjustified to give Kano what everyone else has.

He did but it was actually his b3, which then was swapped with the 1123, making the 3 of that string his b3 now with a popup (it was made negative on block by like -14, not on the game right now to check and is 18 frames of startup) and the old b3 became f4, and old f4 became f3 lol

It's just with no OH, no MB sparks on block... Just block low and backdash or absolutely punish. Yeah you guys deserve some changes, I mean even I didn't have problems that much with Kano and I was playing the worst variation of Shinnok at the time before switching to War God Kotal, so our situation and yours really wasn't no different.

EDIT: Made some adjustments to the above info and added extra to help your case. :D

Not Good Enough
I'll stick with my Kano for as long as possible. I really don't know why people come in here not knowing the actual character problems and claim this is a "complaint thread." He needs some slight hitbox and priority fixes. That's all. Sure, he has some safe strings and ways to open people up, but it doesn't help when his D1 whiffs in Cutthroat variation face to face with some guy. And lol at the "just chucking knives" poster. Please don't be ignorant. Hardly anyone is complaining about projectiles and damage.

I don't actually play these games
Pig just said on stream he doesn't see how Cyber or Cuttthroat can get any better. What is the Kano communities response to these allegations?

Well, it wasnt brought up to him that the primary suggestions were closer to bugfixes(thnx Youphykins), but even so, I respectfully disagree? But I ain't nobody, and my opinion don't mean squat.

I completely disagree with Pig on that. Any character can get better or given shit to make them worth it. I mean you've seen characters get new normals even, with them being existing animations.

Anyone who doesn't play as Kano religiously would most likely assume that as well I guess. Jumped online and played a couple of matches, placed top 30 when I actually checked to see if there were any Kano's. I work my ass off at locals, his footsie game is dangerous and he's got the tools except his up ball needs to act as an anti air against certain neutrals. The AA Laser seems practically useless besides turning into a brutality but oh well I guess. The video on this thread points out the fixes he needs. I never thought cyber needed the damage.. the knives are a huge part of the damage... it's there. I just want fixes for moves that don't perform the way they were intended to. Everyone should be fishing out these unintentional flaws for any of their favorite characters imo.

Added damage was always a Vanity buff in my eyes. One that people want, but is far from necessary, while things like added plus frames to EX knife is a situation that gets brought up because of all the other characters that get that bonus while having more. Then there's stuff like the B1 hitbox, which is absolutely necessary in the eyes of many, but not needed at all in the eyes of others. Then of course, 112 whiffs and parries that are 100% supported.

This post said nothing new I know..

Ex knives deserves more frame advantage for the meter spent. B1 hitbox for Cutthroat may stay the same because it's design may have been meant for a run in input, despite the major whiffs, it gets damage when it works. 112 whiffs should be fixed and the visually deceiving parries for commando are wonky.

Yeah the parries when I saw them blew my mind as to why they'll grab the wrong type.

Most of you guys don't seem to be happy with him being where he is in the tier list and you're dropping him for other characters but you're forgetting that someone has to be mid and Kano is there this time. It's just how it is, he doesn't have to be top tier. He's one of the most well-balanced characters in the game as we've all pointed out before so what's the problem? If you're more focussed on easy wins instead of character loyalty then go play someone else and stop brining negativity to the forums. Meanwhile the Kano players that don't want buffs to win will continue doing what they do which includes winning matchups by exploring them and playing them and enjoying the character instead of arguably downplaying and crying.
Our best Kano players don't even play Kano anymore because they've moved on to bigger and better things. But thanks for stopping by.
Coach Steve still plays him...and Royale is in winners at CEO right now having put Tom Brady and Trepound in losers. Who do you think is our top players?

Dude come on, you can win with Kano. He does well against a bunch of the top variations in the game. Being one of the least used doesn't make him bad, and when was he ever popular in tournament?
Well, it wasnt brought up to him that the primary suggestions were closer to bugfixes(thnx Youphykins), but even so, I respectfully disagree? But I ain't nobody, and my opinion don't mean squat.
Well most of the discussion changed to him needing buffs because he's apparently so bad and you can't win with him, am I wrong? DMS mentioned this thread and I'm sure Pig saw it too which is why I didn't bring it up, but they might not have known about the majority of the community wanting him to be improved.

I mean @Youphemism does bring up a solid point: You can still PLAY Kano and outplay your opponents so long as you know their tools and how to correctly counter them. Royale and Coach Steve have proven it.

You can play anyone you want. You find Kano interesting? I say, as they say in Street Fighter Alpha 3...

"GO FOR IT MAN!"

Even when Shinnok was still struggling, we had Jonnitti and xSMoKEx proving us that the character could still outplay opponents.

FlappyDaniel

Snappin' spines all day e'ry day.
He was never popular but he just got some exposure like week 1 because of the B1 that they patched and people just still assume from second hand word of mouth and seeing some gameplay here and there that he's this insane pressure machine or something. I honestly think he might have a lot of 5-5s which is really nice. I just think the worry might actually be that maybe he doesnt have as many 6-4s as other characters.

And yeah I wanted to call out Royale because his play was on point for sure, definitely showing that the character can get kills, you just have to be a good player lol. the zoning and controlling the pace of the match by staggering pressure and just really good fundamentals and not leaving any damage on the table. go figure you have to be good to do well. I'm cheerin' for him goin forward for sure.

We're* not bringing ANY negativity to the forums by pointing out and discussing perceived issues with the character. Being "hard" to win with is just hush talk for "not as good." What makes a character "easy" to win with anyways if not for it having good tools or being outright broken? Player skill is what counts 90% of the time anyways.

Being low tier in this game isn't exactly a death sentence nor is it something that should be permanent when there are still patches due in the future. So if there's a chance to improve Kano we have no reason not to ask.

There's a reason no top player even has a pocket Kano that's all I'm gonna say
That's....not a good point really. One of those reasons could be that they don't play that archetype of character. You don't see anyone with a pocket Jax either, does that mean he's bad?

Perceived is the key word here. The point is even bringing up the idea that he's hard to win with is pessimistic, who cares? If you like the character and play him well enough that you feel you can win with him do it. If he was legitimately unviable then there could be a point in asking for buffs but he's viable and clearly it's possible to win with him so besides bugs what's the problem? What makes a character easy to win with would either be great damage or great mixups, remind you of a certain Kano variation? And you're right, player skill is what counts mostly so unless the character is literally riddled with bugs there's not a lot to warrant dream buffs.

You can ask for fixes if you want but the idea of him not being fine as a character or people calling him low tier (l m a o) is a little much considering the tournament presence the few Kanos that come out get and considering that someone in the game has to be slightly lower than others. If people don't like that idea then instead of complaining about it they can switch characters, clearly Kano being top is too important for some people instead of the idea of just playing their character, getting on with it and outplaying to win. Why rely on the character being better when you can rely on fundamentals to win? Isn't that more rewarding in the end?

Things like command grabs whiffing when theyre attacking will forever be a problem as long as NRS continues to use the same engine. They've been using Unreal Engine 3 since MK DC I believe. Probably to save money so they don't have to upgrade or build their own.

I actually think the decision for that this game was because of the last gen ports. It would be easier to still use a suped up UE3 engine for everything and scale down for last gen but... As you can see, that idea didn't really work too well.
