this thread is not for speculating who we want to be in the game or ones we have seen in action it is about the characters who are all but confirmed, the ones we have proof or good reason to believe are in the game but have not been officially confirmed by NRS yet. lets get started shall we
the latest character select screen has 26 slots, one of which is a random select. there are 14 characters on the screen which leaves at least 12 more to be announced. now lets see how many characters we know or are pretty sure of are in the game.
First are the ones we know will be playable.
1. Sonya Blade
2. Jax Briggs
3. unknown bow user
4. Mileena? (looks like a female ninja and is not any of the already confirmed characters) and also she has a big role in the comic and Boon has yet to deconfirm or say anything negative about her on twitter.
5. Liu Kang? Fujin? (whoever is at the top of that tower)
These characters are all confirmed by being in the living towers, for those that dont understand if they are in the tower it means that you fight them

6. Kenshi

and him and his son had some importance in the mkx comic
now This is the part where it gets interesting, the characters who we have reason to believe will be in but have no proof at all just hints.
7. Tremor....yes Tremor will be in the game, why? he was added to the vita version of MK9 in the challenge tower but hardly had his own moves and if brutalities are an indication of something its that NRS will add what they couldnt in their last game to this one, also Boon has only been positive or neutral about him on twitter even posting a petition to get him in (https://twitter.com/noobde/status/567529347813502976).The characters he has been very positive about have made it in (reptile, ermac, kitana etc). Boon has also said there is definitely a chance (https://twitter.com/noobde/status/558336358817607681) of a new ninja and tremor hasnt been fully playable in any mk games so that makes him new.
8. Smoke. honestly Smoke might have been revealed the first time the game was shown off, we still dont have a confirmation on who that grey character being slammed by Kotal on the select screen is and its none of the ones i listed above, Smoke is also a character Boon has only been positive or neutral about on twitter like he was with reptile ermac kitana and mileena
9. Fujin, now if that is Liu Kang in the living towers and not Fujin he still has a good chance, first off he was supposed to be in MK9 asthe final DLC but got switched with a guest character (because money bags Boon saw the potential). Boon has also replied to alot of Fujin related twitter posts and been positive or neutral and he also deleted a tweet that blatantly hinted that he will be in the game(http://mortalkombat.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:75769) and for what its worth he's in themkx comic.
10. Reiko, last we have this guy who's potential lies solely in the comic, he is being billed as a tactical genius and the true brains behind Mileena's operation having her and Goro work for him (Goro confirmed Mileena all but confirmed). Ed Boon has only replied to posts about him twice but again nothing negative, posts are in the same fashion as the others. Reiko has always aspired to be emperor and worked as Shao Kahn's general that seems to still be intact in the comic and he also is seen as a rival to Kotal Kahn so his chances arent looking too bad.
that leaves at least 2 spots open......the obvious question why isnt Shinnok on the list? well besides the MK9 ending there hasnt been much said about him he isnt in the comic yet either, although Boon said we will get an answer about him at some point on twitter that doesnt say much. i do believe that he is likely to be in but this thread is more about characters we have some evidence and good reason to believe will be in. they could have planned him in MK9 but then decided to jump to the future and said forget him....not likely but possible so once hints of him start rolling out he will be on this list
as for who WONT be playable in the game (from MK9) probably Cyrax, Rain, and Kabal. why? these 3 are all said to be modifications for the living tower challenges but that is likely to just be their moves interfering in your fights and you not actually fighting them. it gets a little tricky because Ed Boon has posted purple rain lyrics on twitter seeming to hint at rain being playable but he did say Rain's chances were slim to shady(https://twitter.com/noobde/status/555531184529080321 ) as he did with skarlet, and when asked about cyrax said his bus is running late sorry(https://twitter.com/noobde/status/503231970298437632) so he has given negative hints about 2 of the 3 and not been more positive or neutral like he has with others. Kabal is only deconfirmed if he really is in the living towers the same way, since both rain and cyrax arent playable kabal more than likely wont be either if hes serving the same purpose, he also has no mentions on Boon's twitter.
tl;dr at least 12 spots available heres 10 that are very likely to fill them and 3 that likely wont. 5 are already known to be playable.
