What's new

I grew up a little today

NB Semi Evil Ryu

Former Sub-Zero of the Midwest (2011 - 2015)
Now more than even i wanna help the NRS scene grow and have more players play so by the time MKX rolls out we can compete with the capcom games in terms of numbers at tourneys. I have a feeling we gonna be seeing 100+ players at every major for MKX #Facts
I have a feeling that some Capcom players are going to see MK X after it comes out and be like, "Fuck you, Ultra....."

@CD jr I respect that you did this. I was one before I even became apart of TYM watched you play with Superman. I did learn a lot from you in the early days. Then when you trashed the game I decided you were not a good player to follow. I hope you stay true to this because I think you could be a force. Good luck with your situation and I hope to see you back on your feet soon.

The biggest thing a man can do is admit their mistakes, own them, and learn from them and then to do so openly and offer apologies.

Many will only quietly admit such things to themselves if they even go that far...props to you CDjr for doing this openly and offering apologies after this realization to those that were impacted by your actions. Its hard to judge at what point you go from being just another fan playing and getting swept up in the emotion of a game and when you suddenly become the voice that the public forms their own opinions around. Its pretty heavy when the weight finally settles on your shoulders and you realize the position you find yourself in when just doing something you love. I wish you the best in your career and hope that you gain sponsorship and new found opportunity again at some point. The community truly does gain from your play vids. I hope to see you around again soon.

If it helps...some year I'd hoped to be in a position to call you in for playtesting something I hope to get off the ground.

Good luck CDjr.

TBH, you dont have to apologize to anyone. If ppl are hurt what you say Fuck 'em, it is your opinion regardless. You have skills to the games I give you that, but you should know that ppl will kiss up to you and then when get their success they will bash on you. Just saying, the FGC in my eyes is a good community, most of us are here b/c we are casual players but most are competitive as well. You dont necessarily have to show face to these ppl as long as you get paid and laid its all good.
He's apologizing for expressing his opinion in a shitty way, there's a difference between giving feedback/criticizing and and just doing what he did...

Whether its shitty or not is still an opinion, everybody is just looking for the good opinions and pleasant ones. Everybody dont want to hear negativity, thats whats wrong with the world. Realism, if a person is being real what they say, I say let them. I may not agree with them but is still their opinion. But if they want to get physical we can get physical.

I'll make sure to keep bringing that KI hype for season 2 :)
I wanted to make a new thread on this, but I like that you bring up the fact that MKX might be rivaling Capcom numbers. It very well can, I was doing some thinking, and if you read comments on Capcom sites, I see no hate (unlike IGAU), people genuinely want to play MKX because it looks good, NRS cleaned up animations, and added depth because of the variations they're adding. This can be a huge opportunity for NRS scene.

My question is, how do you capitalize on this, get people playing, and continue playing after initial hype dies?

I am thinking assuming this is NRS' last MK game for a while, and since MKX is coming out on the birth of new gen consoles, I can't help but wonder if finally MK can have the SFIV effect, where it starts out on the beginning of new gen systems and than it's played for years to come. Community needs to embrace this and blow up the scene somehow, especially NRS leaders/faces.

Just some thoughts.

I think most people choose what's comfortable for them. Injustice had elevated numbers because it did a good job of drawing everyone together with back to block, the different mechanics that came from other games (pushblock/FADC/etc), and the DC comic book universe, plus all the people who came from MK.

I think that there's a group of people from other FGs who, despite giving it a try, won't like MK or will bash the block button and whatnot after a couple months just like they always do. But personally I don't care; the mark of a great game is not that everyone likes it; it's that the people who do are really passionate about it and the hype for tournaments/competition shines through regardless of how many people sign up.

I only hope that we can all embrace the spirit of community and keep it alive -- the better we do with supporting each other rather than constantly dragging each other down, the more attractive our community becomes and the more people will want to be a part of it.

Wot. People are overlookig the block button cuz the game just looks so good. No one's really bashing, that's my point. You have the potential to do something big here, or well, important people have the chance to.

Yeah, but if you were around for early MK9 articles on SRK, a lot of people were hopeful and played the game for the first couple months. Then after that, players began to quit en masse, a lot of Capcom players went back to their games and people started complaining about the same old things.

But my point is, I wish we wouldn't be so concerned about what X community or ABC players from said community think about our game. When each new game comes out, there's a surge of hype and then the honeymoon wears off. It's likely that the same things will happen, but I think we are stronger than that; and regardless of what other people say and do, the excitement and quality of play from the game will shine through the way it always does.

We should be ready to support our own game and community to the fullest, and grow it on our own, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I'm ready to get hype.

I'm not really buying this...

NRS announces there bringing in evo players to test, jr apologizes hours later specifically mentioning boon and hector....I smell alterior motives

Time wil tell
Nah those 2 dudes at the gym made me realize I fucked up. You always been a hater of mine so I understand why you won't believe me. If there is one thing I will always keep real is I don't suck up to anyone developers or not like some other players do. If I apologize is because I really meant it. Alt motives? What testing? You want me to lie and say I wouldn't love to test MKX? That's not sucking up that's me having passion for MK. But it's w.e bro stay on your lane I'll stay on mine

Hates a strong word. I just dislike your blatant immaturity. We share a passion for mk so I could not hate you. Looking forward to meeting you in tournament next year.

>mfw circa spring 2011 being bummed out about my main jax being shit
>one night on vsm stream before evo 2011 a jax player came on stream to fight tom brady
>Jax player bodied tom brady sub zero 9-1 clean
>chat was going crazy, I was going crazy, tom was ranting on streamchat. It was awesome

That night in chat was so awesome you were so damn good. Good to see you have grown, hopefully you find that passion for MKX like you did with mk9.

I thank god for letting me meet those 2 dudes at the gym today because they really changed me. I was so happy I offer them to train with me cause they said they are just casual players and will never get good. but because of they way they impacted me maybe not Inj but I will make sure they are beasts In MKX. They called me a Bronx legend and that really meant a lot I'm gonna help them become pros

CDJR, you may not know who I am but I have followed your tournament career since you started. You and your brother were two of my favorite players in MK9 to watch.

I was disappointed in the things you said about Injustice and other games, so I am glad to read this. I hope you mean it.
