Don't worry OSU, I have you protected from drama with my v.2 bro shield.

But thanks for the clarification, it does make me feel a bit better that he wasn't just selective with this game in particular when it comes to disliking a game. Also, I'll agree, I shouldn't have said Perfect Legend wasn't part of our community but I didn't mean to give off the impression that I believed he was a bad guy. He seems great, all I meant was in a way I feel closer to Reo as a member myself so naturally I was cheering for Reo in the finals. In no way did I mean to hate on PL, it was just in response to Eddy criticizing (subtly) people wanting Reo to win more than PL.

But thanks for that clear up. :)

Anytime someone says a game is trash is because they aren't winning at it. It's crazy to call a game trash and the people who placed better than you trash. Maybe Eddy or JOP should have won evo then Eddy could have made those statements and JOP could have chanted "MK sucks"

Its like this community is trying to exile Tom now, with all these recent threads having to do with him in a negative light. Shame.

Above is a link to Aris' podcast with JOP. JOP is an old school MK fan and I don't picture him ever doing anything intentionally to hurt the game itself. Having said that, the game needs a lot of work. Is it fun? Yes. Are there a lot of problems? Hell yes. Most of the issues can't be addressed with patches. We need to look forward to a better MK10. JOP's words DO hold weight, though. Anyone who knows him knows he's one of the most intelligent players to ever play any fighting game. Shit, I'm an average Tekken player at best and I won a Tekken Tag tourney with him a few years back doing almost NOTHING. Haha.

Just listen to the podcast. You'll get a little more of a feeling of what the man is like. I was rooting for him at EVO, regardless of what he was or wasn't planning on doing had he won.

To paraphrase so many others... "Any hype is good hype". I think this situation illustrates that this is not always the case.

Haha sorry for pointing this towards you 16bit, I wasn't intending to blame you for misinformation. I was trying to *ask* Tom what he knew about Jop's actions at Evo, but Silent took my word for it.

I am sorry, but bitching about people you don't know seems pretty retarded to me. As far as I am concerned, the people who invest time in this game should be allowed to say what they think about it and complain about the things they think are wrong with it. I have no idea whether they planned to actually go ahead and do that on the big stage had JOP won at evo but outside of that, I really don't see a problem.

Yeah, too bad that my whole rant was about that problem so by you saying "outside of that"..Well there is no outside of that genius.

Trashing games you play for their faults is nothing new nor is it always bad. Pretty much every game has someone come out and take a gigantic dump all over it and often the best, or most important, players lead the charge. It often serves to light a fire under a developers ass to start fixing things before there is time to let them fester and the problems get out of hand.

Being able to admit a games flaws and problems and failures also helps it's community seem more serious and less blind.

I don't know if what was said about JOP wanting to trash MK if he won was true, but I do have some things to say about his character and the house of goons in general.

My friend and I went there a few weeks before evo and we're intermediate players at best. Initially we were worried that we were going to be subjected to elitist attitudes and people who didn't have time to teach such newbs, let alone play against them. Everyone at goons, including JOP, was outgoing and friendly. They talked to us, sat down to show us things, and played against us for the entire 4 hours we were there, and gave us pointers on how to improve our games, JOP included.

They eagerly invited us back and said we were welcome anytime, both of us being family men it's difficult for us to get away on a consistent basis, but I can't wait to go back.

There was no "written statement"... there isn't some huge plot to topple the MK world....

It's true that JOP hates all modern fighting games... But it's also true that JOP is really close to actually liking MK (which is a big deal because he hates the direction modern games are going) but the bugs/inconsistencies is what gets him irate about it in general. It's like wanting something after years and years, almost getting it, and realizing it's fake.

In any case, EP recently admitted to me that he has "accepted MK for what it is" and has agreed to play it to support the 2 people remaining in Dallas that still like the game (namely me and and Brady).

In regards to being called trash by EP (or anyone from Dallas), there are 2 things. 1) That was more directed at Bill (we have known him for years and we know the REAL Tom Brady and not just the image that is built up for the masses), because of inconsistencies in the way he had been treating us (his close friends) and what he claimed he would be doing for the months leading up to Evo. 2) It is in our competitive nature, to call anyone who goes against any of us, trash, as well as any of their associates. As rev and Tremloc mentioned earlier, where we are aligned in a competitive sense is not necessarily related to how we treat you outside competition. We have entertained people, from top players in every major competitive fighting game to new local players, for years at the house of goons and they all get the same treatment. We always have fun and talk shit but at the end of the day if you come to Dallas and chill with the Goons you will always leave with a favorable impression (we actually are pretty hospitable down here ;-))

People think that just because we compete (and compete fiercely) that we don't respect other players/groups... It's not that, it's just that competitive respect it has to be earned... And if you are competing against us, at that moment in time that you are on the sticks against us you are the enemy... Afterwards though, it's all good, we can chop it up (as a matter of fact I think EP and Pig had a convo post-hype and realized that the shit talk was all in the spirit of competition and all in competitive fun.). Just like when I talked it up w/ the EGP guy after my match w/ EGP Tyrant (that I should have won... Tyrant... MM next time we meet...)... FunkPanda (another Goon) was being the most annoying mf'er, but that was because he was trying to get in Tyrants head. Afterwards I talked to the head EGP guy and we were talking about how competition adds to the hype.

I don't know if this sheds enough light but that's the background (or at least some of it)... When the Goons show up deep, you will know we are there, period. If shit talk is not your thing, that's cool, but get to know us; You will find (as most have for the past 10+ years) that we are pretty chill and down to earth.

You'll be seeing us around ;-)

I just have to say. I have unparalleled respect for S1lent with the way that he handled the stream. I never actually watched his stuff consistently, but now I might. He showed class and he stuck up for the game we all know and love.

I love how the biggest problem for EP and Brady was the D4. Fine, we all agree that the hitbox on that is sketchy at best. But they're putting down REO for that while fully supporting a KL player (and nothing against PL, I think he's great, just showing the inconsistency here) with more weapons than he can count. Mileena players have said time and time again, give us Spin or 2,4 mix up of Kung Lao quality you'll never see D4 again. I'd rather get D4'ed all game since they can't just chase me with that across the map like KL can. There was a lot of plain salt there to even take it seriously.

Now, as for the whole reading or trashing the game at EVO, true or not, the idea itself is moronic and if it is true I am losing respect for JOP (never had any for EP to begin with). He may be a very intelligent fighting game player, but you have to have a little more sense then that. More so with Hector Sanchez being there in the crowd as well. Yes MK has problems we have all said that, we have all discussed it. Should they be fixed? Most definitely... Can they all be fixed with patches? Probably not. Just Cyrax himself presents so many various scenarios that they should have tested him way more. Is the best way to do it to blast the game at EVO in front of one of the people representing the company? FUCK NO.

I mean, you're friends with Brady, you placed third at a major. I am sure any kind of input you would provide to Hectorrific personally he would listen to, or at least acknowledge, maybe even make you one of the testers like Brady. Sure it's a weird scenario, but that way you don't do one of the dumbest things ever. If not true, then it doesn't apply, but if there was any weight to that, I just wouldn't believe JOP would do that.

Now, as for EP. First, trashing REO? Please, I played his KL online and he does some things I've never, ever seen done by any other KL player at any level, not even PL. He is an intelligent player who had the guts to play one of the less popular characters that he himself didn't think would be able to compete because he liked her as a character and win with her. Also, trashing the MK community? That just won't do. Sure, the game has problems, but we still banded together since it's the first competitive MK game in a while and we will support it and each other to the end because we love this game. If you don't, there is a simple solution, don't play it, let it the fuck go. If you come trashing all of us then yes, you're going to get this kind of treatment, especially when we're trying to support the game and see it forward.

I haven't read this topic beyond the first post, so I'll just point-form what I think about the issue in general:

- I had no idea who Eddypistons was before the last STBL show, and speaking from an unbiased point of view, he was out of line, particularly for what he was saying about Silent in the background.

- While he WAS out of line for going off on Silent, I must be the only one who didn't get the impression that Eddypistons was necessarily talking shit about REO. I don't think he was trying to say "It's not cool that they boo JOP and cheer REO because REO is shit", I think he was trying to say "It's not cool that they boo JOP and cheer REO because it's a double standard". I don't recall him saying anything directly offensive to REO.

- Brady really lost his composure in that ep, but if "lol trolling" is really ruining his rep with NRS after he worked directly for them, I think he has every right to be absolutely fucking livid about it.

- Silent really did handle that whole affair like a champ. It takes a big man to put up with that shit in stride, especially from some guy you don't know arbitrarily badmouthing you. Respect.

- Arguing over what JOP was allegedly going to do if he won at Evo is beyond pointless, because it never happened. The only person who can say for sure what JOP was planning to do is JOP. This whole JOP conspiracy theory bullshit is record-setting retardation.

- The guys at NRS are fucking twelve-year-old-on-gamefaqs gullible if they believe any other assclown who signs up for twitter over a guy they know personally. Just sayin'.

Annnd I think that's about all there is to say here.

He did say "Reo is trash." I don't know any of these people personally, but just from what I heard it seemed like EddiePistons was disrespecting Reo. In fact, I got the impression that he wasn't fond of any MK player outside of his little camp - Brady, JOP, and Perfect Legend.

I mean, when S1lent questioned him about JOP joining in on the "MK sucks" chant, EddiePistons immediately got pretty rude. Once he began saying things like "JOP paid his money like everyone else, so he can do whatever he wants," I lost the little respect I had for him.

I missed that, then. If he really said that about REO, he was way out of line.

ICE already put everything to rest in his post.

We say these things in the nature of competition. Its trash talk - it's meant to get into your head and throw you off your game. Because the moment that you and I sit down at opposite ends on the console - you are my mortal enemy and it is my goal to defeat you! A true competitive player will do everything in his power to defeat you.

When EP says that "Reo is trash" or "Mortal Kombat players are trash" He's not sending a personal attack. Outside of competition - if you ever hung out with us - you would find we are some of the most jovial players to be around!

I can't add much more than what ICE said.
