UMVC3 scene

So how's the UMVC3 scene doing currently? Is it worth to go learn the game now in 2014 when so much has been found out etc?I'm getting a stick in a week and I was deciding between games on which ones I would like to main and umvc3 is one of those. Where can I find content like TYM has for MK9 and INJ, but for UMVC3?

umvc3 is fun, but the balance, netcode if you're playing online, and the same sets of 3 characters everyone picks will get on your nerves. also i don't think the dlc is available for the game anymore. it's probably nice and cheap though.

Cool, thanks for the info, some more q's if you don't mind; is the netcode comparable to mk9/injustice online?:S

Yeah, I did some research and found out about the whole marvel license contract issue, however lots of players are telling me that the DLC characters(Jill and Shuma) aren't really played that much either way, so it wouldn't matter. I guess no alt. costumes and those characters, I could live without em.

Thanks, I think I'll buy the game and test it out.

i remember it being pretty bad. i'd say it was worse than injustice, but not as bad as mk9. it was enough to make me stop playing the game even though i didn't want to stop.

So, just wanted to update this thread, I got the game been playing it and I got to say I really love playing it. There's more people online in MK9 tho, however mk9 has way more lag compared to this game. For the people saying umvc3 online is/was bad. I think they fixed it or something cause its running very smooth for me. There's obviously lots of really high level player(The games been out for awhile now). But you also find players among your rank(like me beginner, the 1st rank), so good online scene in general I would say.

The offline scene for marvel where I live(Amsterdam) is still alive(@20-30 people), so leveling up and so is going to go smoother and just having an offline scene in general is awesome.

I can't say this for MK9, because the offline scene died before I got into the game, hopefully when MK X comes out the scene will revive again.

P.S. Really starting to love backtoblock more:coffee:

Naw, they didn't fix it. It's still bad. The thing is, it's not as awful as NRS games' netcodes BUT you will hate it more than their netcodes.

Reason why: Once you start to understand the game and play it more, a very minor lag spike in MVC3 could cost you the victory. Any dropped combos on or offline in that game could spell your own death so it's extremely frustrating to play it online.

And as for the balance, almost every character works in Marvel, you just gotta build a team around em. If your favorite character is Spiderman, who almost no one uses, you can still build a team around him and be successful. Almost any character in the game has bullshit.

Marvel's scene I'd say is the second strongest offline with SF4 taking first place.

Lamest Harley, still better sloth than Jer
I'm learning Jill, it's hard to get her timings right. Wolverine is super fun and easy. I was able to do his standard bnb real quick just from watching streams.

Hope you like Dr Doom and Vergil...
Dr.Doom so fun to play, I messed @ with vergil first day, I know he's top tier but I just don't like him lol.

I''m using nova/magneto/dr.doom atm, messed @ with nova, spencer, doom aswell but I just really love Magneto as a marvel character in general:D, I feel obliged to learn him. Before I started playing wanted to play MODOK aswell cause he seems freaking awesome, just a huge head flying @, but he's kinda hard specially for new players to grasp, so I decided to learn him after I learn the game better.

MODOK is a hidden high tier. His assists are great, and he is one of the few folks who can legit screw with Morri/Doom. Thing is he almost requires a solid GTFO assist.I've seen folks use Captain America Shield Charge , Chun Li Lightning Leg, and usually Amaterasu Cold Star. Ammy is probably the best since the character is very useful for DHC, combo extension, and general incoming character traps off of slow super. I've seen a Nova/Modok before but they weren't really using Nova assist to help Modok...more Modok's beam to aid Nova.

I actually ran as a backup to Taskmaster/Iron Fist/Arthur MODOK/Iron Fist/Arthur quite a bit. Team was built for Iron Fist protection though as I'm a major fan of that character and mained him though he was bottom tier. Those teams were zoner-tastic with surprising rushdown bursts from both MODOK and Iron Fist when they got an opening.

Anyhow MODOK is great and his rushdown is by far underrated. Crazy good character and he can hang out at the top of the screen to mess with a lot of tactics by using his Jamming bomb. Honestly if you wanna use him on a backup team I'd go Modok/Ammy/Dr. Doom . Ammy for GTFO assist coldstar/extensions and also to setup easy Jamming bomb setups on incoming cast from DHC's out of slow after killing someone. Also you get Doom Assist and that coupled with homing bombs and analyze cubes is frustrating for folks to contend with. You also have good TAC infinite and TOD with Doom/Ammy.

Tip to learning that team...lookup Moons and Clockw0rk.

MODOK is godly, however imo he's easily the hardest character to master. I can play almost every character in the game at a high level but damnit I could never grasp MODOK.

Awkward or low tier is all I play. See my team for reference. BTW Arthur is highly underrated. Dark Arthur scares me more than Dark Phoenix after learning it. Lvl 3 xfactor with gold armor and Arthur is ridiculous.

UMVC3 is SUPER fun at a medium level. At high level it becomes a 6 or 7 character game for about 90% of the ppl you'll face. It's fun playing with people who actually have to hit you 2 times to kill you. Not one guess/touch per character.

You know its pretty bad when MVC2 seems more balanced.

I don't think MvC2 is more balanced, but I really don't think these 2 games are THAT far off. Marvel 2 has what... 5 or 6 viable top characters? Marvel 3 has like 8 or 9. Not too encouraging lol.

Just felt like MVC2 was less braindead in its touch of death damage. I won't deny you that it has less viable teams. 8 way air dash / flight cancel stuff broke that game hard. There is a reason Storm/Magneto/Sentinel were called team 10 more years. If you weren't playing them you'd occassionally see the cl0ckwork team of strider doom and some scattered takes of Cable, Spiral or Captain Commando players. In that game though assists worked a bit differently, air combos weren't such an issue and xfactor was a non factor which is why as busted as it was it felt more enjoyable to me than MVC3. At least in MVC2 you needed more skill to get that damage.
