I think ichi is slang for "First" or "Best" in japanese.
1 is short for First in English.
In arcades, you can only use 3 letters for your name.
So GO1 = Goichi in a sort of shortcut License Plate shorthand.
Even though he writes it as GO1, the proper way to say his name is Goichi.
