so i was messing around in the lab seeing how i can punish sonya grenades till i found this

So whats happening?

im inputting stun nade kinda of late.

If the d3 hits nothing happens

If the d3 is blocked a stun nade will come out and keep sonya

Aint this the same Os raiden had working off block stun?

Should Goro be top 5?
Its similar to Goro's 3D3 which only special cancels on hit. Can you do this with any other specials or just the grenade?

You can special cancel d3 on hit. What he's doing is making it so the special cancel only comes out on block. This is because of block stop delaying other inputs. This OS was meant to have been removed and @xxFalcon Loverxx is correct in stating that this is the exact same OS that Raiden had.

I understand. Similar not the same. Didn't disregard his claim on Raiden either. Just want to know weather it's variation specific or all Sonyas can do this with any special move. TY for the quick reply.

This works with all her variations. Its so good in covert ops they counter poke with a string/poke as long as it not a low

Can you dumb this down for me? I'm not even totally sure what the original post was about. My best guess is that some moves can be special canceled on block.

You mentioned Covert Ops and that part really has my attention. Can you give an example of what you meant by that? Is it anything like f4 (they block), MS3 (which hits low while they might still be standing blocking). I'm desperately trying to step up my Covert Ops game. I've only found a few things outside of the block/try-to-punish-with-a-combo routine (kinda like the f4, ms3 thing). Thanks so much!

As you can see, in the op's video he presses "D3 xx DF1B" if they block the D3, the grenade will come out. If they don't block it. The grenade will not come out.

Ohhhh! I wasn't looking at what he pressing, only at the two characters. omg thank you!

So the Convert Ops usage part of the question still stands. All of the special moves I'm thinking of for CO still execute if they're blocked or hit.

I think that Covert Ops wants to save her grenades for something better which is why it is handy for the grenade not to come out when D3 hits but only when it is blocked. I'm pretty sure when D3 hits, Sonya has ample frame advantage to attempt her own pressure without wasting a grenade; on block she is at a frame disadvantage so the grenade comes out and blows up most counter pokes that may come out or keeps them in block-stun allowing even more pressure.

I did kind of the same thing with Alien. d4bf4. If it is on block the flip comes out. if the d4 hits the flip doesnt come out

Oh my god. That's. Amazing. Alien's D4 is -12! So not only will you be able to stay safe with the tail flip, if it hits you get free pressure.

I still haven't been able to find out how this relates to Covert Ops. Special attack I have tried still is attempted even on block.

How does this really work/matter? If you land the d3 you need to take advantage of your +12 frames, so why would I spend some of them to do the OS? Genuinely lost.

If the opponent blocks your d3, she throws a grenade but if you land the d3, she doesn't throw the grenade. That's how the OS works,

Personally, I think this is really good for her. Low poke into grenade catches a lot of people thinking it's their turn to do something, but if you hit, go for a 50/50.

I understand and agree with you. My point is though, that if you land a d3, you have a guaranteed b1 afterwards. If you do the OS, they'd be able to poke your b1 as you would have lost ~5 frames of your plus frames just for doing the OS. Get me?

I'm too sleepy right now so I'm not entirely sure whether I understood what you're saying or not. lol

The thing is, the grenade doesn't come out on HIT, only on block. Landing d3 and throwing a grenade doesn't happen. Ooooor, are you talking about the moment you hit confirm the d3 to make sure it hits, you would've already lost your plus frames and 50/50 isn't guaranteed anymore? Yeah, it makes sense.

thats the point of the option select. You're goign to get your b1 if you're doing things properly
