Insane top 8, and even crazier Grand Finals.

ChrisG had played SonicFox earlier in the tournament yesterday, and sent him to losers in convincing fashion. Beating the favored SF 2-0 with seemingly no issue.

SonicFox battled his way back from losers and made it to Grand Finals for the run back.

SonicFox studied the tapes and learned from his mistakes. And it showed. He took out ChrisG in Grand Final 6-0!

As he stated in a post game interview, he essentially saw that ChrisG was using level 1 sparking to save his character, and that he was raw tagging to also save his character and to recover blue life. Fox realized this and simply kept baiting both. A raw tag is easily punished especially if you’re ready for it, and Sonic absolutely was ready for it. In any competitive arena, losing is the best learning experience. It’s those who take advantage of their losses that truly adapt and improve as players.

Some other notable top NRS players made top 16, such as Beyond Toxin and Theo. Theo even making it to top 8 in winners with his impressive Tien!

Such a great tournament and it was great to see SO MANY different FGC communities coming together to play the amazing game known as Dragon Ball FighterZ!!!

I don't follow the game but Sonic will go down as the best FG player in history if he's not in the pictures alreafy

His win rate over a wide span of games is too much

I know he was really involved in skullgirls but I feel like the rest of the fgc community kinda doesn’t acknowledge he was molded mainly in the nrs commumity. Am I the only one that gets that feeling?

6-0 on ChrisG is nice, but the main takeaway for me was holy shit that one players Cell pressure was insane.

Cell is too perfect man. Seriously, he is the definition of oppression. So much block pressure and if he lands a hit? Bye bye at LEAST 50% of your health, and that’s if you’re lucky.

I think at one point I saw Chris blocking in the corner for about 30 seconds straight until he was finally opened up. Shades of Marvel Infinite.

Yeah it’s crazy how some characters can keep you in block strings, whether they are true or not, and keep making you guess the entire time. I would like to see more guard canceling in those situations, but the problem is the GC’s can be punished in certain situations. Also reflecting the fake pressure (the not true block strings) and then punishing. For instance when SF does his Goku Black block string that end in H xx Beam Special, you can reflect the special and punish. Easier said than done obviously in a real match when so much is going on, but I believe reflecting is gonna be more of a factor later on in this game.

You can also guard cancel even if you only have one character left, something I found out recently. Solo GC basically acts like a vanish but you can use it in block stun. I would also like to see that later on in the games life.

For how accessible and easy the game is to get into, it definitely has REAL depth. I love this game so much. I’ve already played it more than I ever did Injustice 2, it’s so good!

Great first major for the game. Everything was hype from pools all the way to GFs. And god I love Yipes.

Congrats to all the NRS fam in top 16!

Love Yipes and Chris Matrix commentary. Makes it more entertaining. And generally they don’t say anything they aren’t fully knowledgeable on. There were some commentators for the team tournament that were very annoying. They kept saying incorrect information and making dumb assumptions, it was actually super annoying.

Note to commentators. If you aren’t fully aware of certain things about the game, or community, don’t even mention it. It spreads misinformation and makes you look unprofessional and ignorant. Not throwing shade, just some constructive advice.

What is that weird-looking delayed low Hit has that keeps opening everybody up in the corner? I swear it lands 70% of the time, every time, haha.

    Sutter Pain Your mothers main.

Pretty much everyone can go into their low combo from jabs except hit as his low is much slower and can not chain from lights. His 2L unlike everyone else is a overhead and I think the fastest OH in the game.

Hit is one of the few that has a lot of weaknesses, but his strongest game is Timeskip powers. What you mean by his delayed low is his 2L. All of his low attacks are slow, but powerful. And they're kind of risky against someone with way good reactions.
  25. EntropicByDesign

    EntropicByDesign Confused and afraid.

TL:DR - Its Hit's cr.M (2M, down medium, whatever notation you prefer). It's just weird and slow compared to everyone elses.

That's just Hit's 2M (down.Medium or cr.M). I think 2M is a low for every character in the game and with the exception of Hit, they can all be chained into from just about any normal. So on my A21, I can do like 2L 2M or 5M 2M or whatever. Hit's low cant be chained into in the same way. You can chain it normally, but its startup is so slow it wont combo or jail or anything, and there is obviously a large gap that can be poked out of or simply outright punished.

Hit is a mixup monster, but his mix is primarily left/right and a very slow unblockable (literally cannot be blocked) that just keeps things interesting. He has a command dash that crosses through you and ends in one of his stances, as well as a moves out of those stances that do an invisible dash through you and attacks from the other side. Its a dash, not a teleport though, even though you cant see it - in keeping with his lore. You can tag him when he's passing through you, but its enormously hard and not something reliable at all. So he can pass through you and attack, or pass through you and attack from the side he was ORIGINALLY on, or pass through into an unblockable that can hit anywhere on screen (must be "aimed" by using the right strength to cover the right part of the screen) so you have to make your defensive decisions pretty quickly. Hit can also engage and if you block him out, he can end unsafe blockstrings in a command dash backwards to catch attempts to punish him, and since his normals almost all dash him forward a huge distance, he's a whiff punish MONSTER in that regard.

So, you take that left/right/unblockable potential and you layer it with his 2L (and OH that cant combo) and his 2M, the low you asked about, in addition to iADing into OH's or empty mids or even the super slow low, and the iAD into a crossup that can then recross you 2-3-4 times, on top of assists covering the screen with active frames and nonesense, and you end up with such an overwhelming scenario, that a super, ultra-reactable low opens up the best players in the world on a regular basis.. There's just SO MUCH to mentally juggle it gets through.

Honestly though, some of it is just the newness of it all and the rarity of Hit. I main him, and I get away with a LOT as him. There's no right way to block Hit, but he has NO other low except the slow ass 2M, so he should always be blocked standing and the low reacted to, but people arent used to that yet and lows are so plentiful and strong on other characters holding downback becomes second nature. Hit is an absolute nightmare to block correctly but I think the low itself is going to become much much harder to use as time passes/
